Sounds great! As time nears, we'll definitely get something organized and represent! The Toy Run beneficiary:
Hollygrove is child-centered and family-focused.
Our mission is to provide abused and neglected children a safe and nurturing environment where each child can heal and develop emotionally, intellectually, spiritually and physically.
Our goal is to help our children achieve essential living skills, join healthy families, and become responsible contributing members of society.
Our History
Founded as the Los Angeles Orphans Home Society, Hollygrove is the oldest nonsectarian home for children in Southern California. Since its inception in 1880, Hollygrove has cared for more than 15,000 children. The early years were dedicated to serving orphaned children. Due to changing community needs in the 1950's, the organization shifted its focus to care for abused and neglected children, and changed the name to Hollygrove in 1952.
Today, Hollygrove focuses on children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect. The Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services places these children in our care - usually after several failed foster care placements. These children arrive on our doorstep with feelings of hurt, distrust, anger, fear, and hopelessness. They have often been robbed of their childhood and given the message that they have no value.
Hollygrove provides a warm, family-type environment where children can learn and grow. We seek to build trust, hope, and self-esteem into their lives to help heal their emotional wounds and equip them to lead productive lives.

I am up for this, and will try and get as many people as I can to support it. Maybe even non-riders. I've got a four year old that has everything, and here's a chance to try and give other kids a least a little of that. Having been adopted might have something to do with it also. :D

Glad to see you are planning on attending. We just opened up the Pre-Registration on http://ToyRide.net if you are planning on attending please pre register so that we can get an idea of how many people will be attending. This year should be big! We have several major sponosrs that have donated raffle items. And we are currently working on event shirts as well.
If you are bringing a toy that may not survive the ride you are more than welcome to drop it off at the start at Edison field. All raffles will take place upon return to Edison.
Let me know if you guys have any questions! http://toyride.net/contact.html

For San Diego folks, there's the Annual SD Toy Run that happens on this same day (12/1):
http://www.sdtoyrun.com/home.html
The 22nd Annual San Diego Toy Run is coming
DECEMBER 1, 2002!
Come and join the party! December 1st, over 1000 motorcyclists will once again meet at South Shores Park on Mission Bay and ride, with their toys, to the Casino Pauma to benefit the less fortunate children of San Diego.
The San Diego Toy Run is the oldest of all such events in San Diego and has been sponsored, almost from its inception, by ABATE of California and other dedicated motorcycling clubs. For many years community motorcyclist have been collecting toys for the children of San Diego and, again this year coordinated through - and the toys distributed by - Saint Vincent de Paul Village (http://www.svdpv.org/).
The cost of attending this ride is one, new, unwrapped, gift for a child. All toys are welcome. However, we usually get more than enough 'stuffed animals'. The largest shortfall is for toys, games, etc. for the older kids--the 13 to 16 age group. This year, because of the continued economic downturn, Saint Vincent has let us know that they are also in need of baby items - wipes, diapers and baby food - so if you'd like to substitute this for a toy, or donate both, please feel free. Your generosity is deeply appreciated.
The San Diego Toy Run is always the first Sunday after Thanksgiving - December 1st this year - rain or shine!. Registration, Coffee/Doughnuts, Ride Pins and Tee Shirts are available at the staging point: South Shores Boat Ramp, off Sea World Drive, San Diego, California. Registration begins at 9:30 A.M. Father Joe Carol will be there to see off the riders from 10:00 to 10:30.
A 'free form' ride will ensue terminating at the Casino Pauma. Plan on staying for the day so you can join your friends for lots of great food, drink, vendors and fantastic music & dancing. Again this year, entertainment will be provided by NorthStar
For the third year, The Planet 103.7 FM will be there with gifts, games of skill and merriment.
This year we are pleased to present the 'Gold Angels Precession Motorcycle Drill (http://members.cox.net/goldangels/) Team, who will be performing at the Party Don't miss this special demonstration.
For intrepid Motorcyclists who whish to camp-out, Rancho Corritdo Park is just up the road and is 'motorcycle friendly' and reasonably priced. For information call (760) 742-3755 or go to: http://www.ranchocorrido.com/
If you or your organization would like to be involved in the planning, or if you would just like more information, please contact John Del Santo at (619) 223-0421 or e-Mail sdtoyrun@cts.com

Yep.. that's the plan. It's fun crusing with the cruisers! I rode with the Wanderers before... really nice, fun group of peeps :)

I'd like to do this one also. I was going to do the one up by LA but I'm not going to be able to do it. This one is closer and I can be done with what I need to do that morning before it starts. I would definitely like to see a big group of the SD SVer's at least go to this. It should be a great time and it's for a good cause. Plus we gotta show them Harley guys that they're not the only popular bikes!!

Just a thought, if we are going to represent in a big way, then we should try and get a banner or some type of flag or the like to do some advertising, kind if like what people were talking about for the motorcycle show. Otherwise all the Harley guys will get all the attention. There will be press there and we could get some free advertising out of it. I'll front the money if someone can come up with an idea for a design and a place that can make it by then. And if it's a flag, I'll figure out a way to mount it to a bike.
I put a quick example here. (http://www.socalsvriders.com/modules.php?set_albumName=cards&id=SVflag1&op=modload&name=Photo_Gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php)
nice... I think it depends on how many big-hearted SV-ers we have here (come on guys, we're ALL going to the Toy Rides, right?). I've got 3 Cycle Gear discount vouchers to give away for this event. To further motivate you guys, let's have breakfast around 8AM-9AM at Broken Yolk in Pacific Beach as a pre-ride meet.
Anyways, we'll stand out enough among the cruisers that I think people will be curious. Stickers on our bikes will probably be enough to gain some "recognition". But then again, I'm terrible at marketing and publicity, so what do I know...

tom
Broken Yolk, 1851 Garnet Ave. http://www.digitalcity.com/sandiego/entertainment/venue.adp?vid=18460 (dunno why the reviews are so terrible...)
Parking there is a pain though... There's a Diedrich Coffee across from it with better parking. Hmmm...

pcperks sounds great, so we can meet up, then we meet up with more fellow svers, then we cruiz to the toy ride... sounds great, hope the weather permits...
so how many ppl plan to go to the SanDiego toy ride?? Looks like registration begins at 9:30am at southshores boat launching ramp (which is great because my dad and I launch there all the time, really huge place). I have to leave early from Ramona, maybe meet up with pcperks (phil) in lakeside, then hopefully meet up with more svers, and then go to southshores... Also what kind of toys are you all bringing? I was thinking about a stuffed animal, but the website says theyll have plenty, so now im thinking about matchbox cars... theyre small, cheap, and I could probably fit like 5 under my seat stillin box, would that count?? hope we could all comeup with a meeting place? I was thinking if anyone is coming down from North County 15 south like me, maybe we could all meet at the starbucks/Jamba juice Off Mira Mesa blvd at a certain time, its right off the freeway.. just a thought... LMK Im up for anything

Dan,
I figured we could meet up nice and easy off the 67 here in Lakeside and jump right on the 8. And maybe meet up with anyone from the el cajon/spring valley area that is going. Plus there is the talk about meeting for breakfast on Garnett. We'll have to play it by ear, I guess. I'm probably going to be bringing a couple play station games, the cheaper ones. That is what I think the older kids would like. Or maybe a model or two.

It's kind of new, and it's on the side by the Kmart. If you get off 67 at the Fletcher Parkway/Broadway exit, you take a right at the exit ramp light and it's immediately on your right hand side. How about you Burt? You up for meeting there?? Or do you want us to pick you up somewhere else?

dan and phil and others. Sorry for not showing up. I have torn my house apart trying to find my only set of keys. Hope you guys had a good ride. on a side note, can any old key maker make copies of motorcycle keys?
This sucks.

Sun 12/1/02, 4:05PM
Sorry to hear about your missing key. I don't know about getting one made, so I'll leave that to someone else.
Me and Dan met up and got down there REALLY early. And there is no way that there was the number of bikes that they said were going to show. I'd say maybe 400. And of course most were crusiers, but there was a decent sport bike representation also. I took a ton of pictures and will post them soon so everyone can check it out. There was the Gold Angels precision motorcycle team that was pretty cool.
After the toy ride, Paul, Dan, and me went to Palomar and did a couple runs. It was definitely a nice day for it. And then we headed back by way of Santa Ysabel/Ramona.
Sorry Paul for losing you on the way back. Dan and I had some fun on the way to Ramona, but I think we were acting like :squid: 's.
Only saw one other SV there, and he should be joining the site soon, so hopefully we'll be hearing from him soon.
it was a nice relaxing ride up. sorry Melissa and i didn't cruise up with you guys but i figured since we went up with the in-laws it would be a little in polite to bail on them. but Dan and Phil it was nice meeting you and Paul it was good seeing you again. glad you made it back safe. i now realize that a Harley is made for cruising and not twistys. man are they slow in the corners. but it was still fun.
so Paul when is the next group ride gonna be? soon i hope.;)
tom
Bert sorry about your key man.. you cant just get any ol key made though, when I bought my bike they gave me a spare, with a code, the code with the spare key was for the suzuki dealership, I guess they go by the code to make you a new key or something like that..
I had a Blast today with Phil, and paul.. The day started out great with a FREE doughnut, so krispie kreme was a good meeting place after all. I was bummed that no other sver's showd up, whats the matter dont you guys like the little kids?? j/k after the casino we decided to hit palomar, it was a tit bit nippley, and some A-HOLE cager didnt want me to pass him going up the tight side, he swerved at me and tried to make me spill on purpose, that really pissed me off , thats the only downfall of today... I saw a couple of Sportbikes take some turns real quick, their knees had to of been touchin the road, I couldent see, I was too busy trying to keep up with Phil, when Paul decided he didnt want to be up front and cruiz in the back with that bald ass tire of his... on the way back phil we did get a little squidley, but it was fun though, all in all a good turn out, no one/bike got hurt and most of all no one got nailed by the cops...
it was serius fun today for me, big smiles and a little food for the soul.. Thanks again Phil and Paul for riding with me, oh and paul for the 15% off yeah, tank bag here I come...
DaN
Ya... thanks for coming guys! Great ride for a great cause. You can almost see us on Channel 10 news.
