View Full Version : What 2 wear?
SV Crazy RJ
Mon 6/24/02, 8:09PM
I am eagerly anticipating the next ride with all of you. I was unable to make it this past weekend due to work conflicts:( But hopefully we will ride soon.
I was just curious on the attire. What do you all wear when you ride (full leathers, jacket & jeans, or anything?) Also with this goes; What type of riding do you do (aggresive, crusing, or just what ever?)
Thank a lot, and let me know!

Wear what ever it takes to save that thing you call "skin".
Ride in which ever manner that is comfortable to you.

he's just a little lonely....... Just remember to keep an eye on him when he is around your sister.. lol
Attire that I wear(tho some of it is not really recommended)
JR textile full armor jacket (recommend this, saved me twice)
Pants - what ever is comfortable. I do not own jeans that I can ride in, so I end up wearing cargos quite often. I recommend you wear something at least as strong as denim. If not armored riding pants.
Shoes- COVER THE ANKLE.
Thats it, we ride how we ride.... Usually while on the hill the group splits up into "mini-groups" and rallys back together at the top or a predesignated resting point. Just ride at the pace you are comfortable with.
Just don't let the roller bladers catch you on the way down..... lol

When I go riding I wear my leather jacket ... gloves, helmet ... I usually wear underwear, socks and shoes ... lately I've been bad and not been wearing over the ankle shoes ... (smacks self) ...
I have leather pants but they are a bit too tight ... so I haven't been wearing them because they inhibit my riding style ... (go figure).
As far as how peeps ride... there's quite a variety of riders ... from beginners, to more advanced, slower and faster ... no one seems to be insanely fast thus yet ...

Depends, if I'm going to work then no, but if I'm out riding for the sake of riding I'll be in a full set of Alpinestars.

I crashed on my SV last Saturday. If I hadn't been wearing all my protective gear including the chest and back protector, I could have been seriously injured. I walked away from this one and will be doing the track day at Spring Hill this Sunday.

I wear full leathers all the time but I don't use my bike to cummute, just for fun. I have seen too many 'offs' not to wear my gear.

cool that you could walk away, what kind of gear are you using for the chest ?
i normally wear full leather unless i do a 5 to 10 min ride
I usually only ride during the weekends and will wear full leathers. Better to be laughed at and safe than laughed at and hurt...or something like that...can't think of a witty one liner right now.

Since my accident (high speed on the freeway) where only my knees were scathed (I was wearing jeans and they got torn up) I've pretty much been wearing full leather neck to toe everywhere I ride. It just isn't worth it. Ask yourself: If you knew you were gonna crash be it on the street at 25 mph or the freeway at 75mph would you rather be in leather? Well guess what, you never know when you're gonna crash, so if you wear the leather all the time, you know that WHEN it does happen you'll have done everything you can to protect yourself. You don't want to regret for the rest of your life your choice to be a squid for a day.
Ex. a buddy of mine went out one day without boots on (said he normally wears boots religiously), T-boned a car that pulled out in front of him at about 35mph. He left the bike and went over the hood. His shoe was found still on the bike (wedged somehow). He ended up with a few feet of gauze stuffed in his foot along with some other injuries not associated with lack of gear.

Nuk wears full leathers everytime from what I understand.
It's true...I have only one set of gear which is my full set. The only thing I save for trackdays is my uber back protector from Impact Armor.
Riding to work: Full leathers. I change to normal street pants in the bathroom after lunch (in case I go out to get something).
Riding to the local store: Full leathers
Riding for fun: Full leathers.
If the distance is too short to wear my full set I just take the car. When I went to Hawaii I brought my leathers with me and I think I was the only one on the island (just about) wearing full gear. heh...but you know...it wasn't so bad...gave me peace of mind to enjoy my riding....I've been wearing gear so long I feel kinda naked riding without it.

....for me.....
....full leathers and race boots for canyons riding only.....
....impractical for commuting.....
....for commutes..........jacket (be it leather or kevlar).......over-pants (kevlar I think)......and military style boots.....
.....gloves are a given..........and I recommend the ones that have protection for the knuckles and wrists.....
......a swolen wrist is no freakin fun............expect down time from porn for atleast a week...
....thought the boots functioned fine in my last street crash.........but I'm in the process of looking for something a bit better than the military styles.....

Will wear full leathers all the time from now on! I crashed last saturday and was wearing full two-piece leather suit. Crash wasn't bad but sliding down road could have been real bad. I still got a nice but small chunk of road-rash at the waist-line but nothing else - no hospital stay for me, thanks to the leathers!!! (Next time I'll ride with the jacket and pants zipped together.)

+1 Full Gear
I think the ONLY time I don't wear leathers is when we hit the 100+ degree (in the shade) temps...
IF I have to ride in that, which I pretty much won't, THEN I'll resort to using the old J.R.-PHX gear. I really feel naked in that gear now that I'm use to the leathers, but it is better than nothing OR heat stroke when in leather @ those temps. Point is, Full Gear at all times, regardless of how far or short the trek...
In Reno, which can reach 100 degrees from time to time, I always wear full leathers…. Too many cell phone lobotomized drivers to count.

I can't deal with full leathers for my commute to work... I only live 5 miles from work. But I do wear my leather jacket, back protector, sidi boots, A* gloves, and of course my helmet.
But if I'm on the road to ride other than to work, its leathers.
