Anyone know where a good place is for a noob like me to practice my riding skills? I am in the San Gabriel/Alhambra area. Don't seem to see any empty parking lots around here.

Took the MSF beginners course and would like to get better before heading to the twisties:D

The target has a big parking lot.

You actually do not need a large space. You need to do figure eights till you get speed and a very tight turn. This get you more comfortable with leaning much faster. Emergency braking is another thing to practice. Do that on the street freaks out too alot of people. All other manuvers you can practice on a quiet street.

Edit: Rose Bowl is a very good spot too.

The Rose Bowl parking lot is a great place to practice. I spent a couple of days there practicing low speed turns before I took the DMV test.

On the weekends, another good place is the Pasadena City College parking lots. They sometimes hold MSF courses in one of them.

also, if san gabriel is closer to you,

try the supermarket at the southwest corner of san gabriel
and valley, where used to be a target 10 years ago

i'm sure there's no car there before 9am and after 9pm

since i'm also in the area, i'll be glad to help you practice

I'll give pasadena college and the super maket a try as well. excellent suggestions.

300, i am going to have to take you up on that offer one of these weekends:D The MSF course definitely was a lot of help: however, a 250cc cruiser just doesn't quite ride the same as a SV650 :P

Make sure you CHECK your paractice area parking lot carefully! look for oil and a/c residue , Dont test those sliders I put on!

Keep practicing! Steve
