I bought an 01 S model that had been laid down at 25mph. The bike is in GREAT shape considering that all of the fairing/headlight assembly etc. was destroyed in the incident. My plan is to make it a track bike since it didnt have all of the stock parts to put it back together when the PO threw out all of the damaged pieces (fairing stays, Headlights, fairings etc.).

I got to wondering how hard would it be to hookup some headlights to do a reasonable (easily convertable) track to Street bike conversion. Making the rear of the bike convertible could be very easily done as I still have all of that stock lighting. All I would have to do is make a quick disconnect mount for the tail light assembly and just relocate all of the cannonplugs near the mount for ease of installation/removal.

I have been planning on using some SRAD GSXR600 Sharkskinz fairings and tail piece for my bodywork. Have any of you done such a project and what type of headlights would you recommend that I try? I want very functional lighting not merely something that is legal.

Thanks,

Joe

Ditto that. I'm looking to something similar, but I'll probably be using some small, bright fog lamps. something like this:

I was thinking about this too. Are race bikes generally unreliable though? I was thinking that I would have to spend money making the powertrain streetable.

"powertrain streetable" what exactly do you mean by that? The reliability isn't necessarily an issue. If the engine is really modified for massive performance or is not maintained well, there may be reliability issues. As far as sprockets and chain, those may not last as well if using aluminum sprockets and 520 chain. Otherwise, they should be fine. I'm thinking of using my race upper with 2 holes drilled in a vertical line an using 2 foglamps stacked and mounted to my fairing stay. If/when I get it done, I'll post some pics on it. Unless I find something better. Hotbodies has a new line of bodywork that has a light installed and comes with a cover for use on the track. The only thing you have to remove for the street is this little round disc.
