I just got a new 2004 SV650S and was wondering: 1) which is better to use, synthetic or petro based oil and which brand? 2) What kind of gas mileage should i expect to get on fwy? 3)when do i need to check the sparks for proper coloring?(owners manuel says it should be perfomed but doesnt specify when) 4)When i do its first 600mi service should i torq the heads? 5) last question, what is the PAIR System? thx rc12ls

I use Motul synthetic. You have to do a good break-in on regular oil first then you can switch over. Many people use an automotive brand but I think it's better to spend a few bucks more and use a motorcycle specific oil. Mileage varies a lot, I'm pretty big, don't have a fairing and usually ride in the fat part of the powerband all the time so my mileage sucks (30-32). I don't think you need to torque the head at the 600 mark. Your manual will have a little chart in it that tells you when to change the plugs and torque the head a nd all that other stuff. Pair valve is pollution control, feeds a little fresh air into the exhaust to help any residual fuel burn off. Has absolutely no effect on performance, don't worry about it.
