Well my other 2 partners in crime on this are not the post whore type so I guess I will do this.
I wanted to get this together and catch this race because I knew it would be a blast, and if it wasn't we were still in Vegas. We decided to leave at 5:45 A.M. Saturday morning so we could get out there in time for the action. Mak showed up at 6:05. He did bring some coffee samples for Alex and myself along with his grande mocha frappucino.
Off we go not stopping until we hit Whiskey Pete's crapass casino in primm valley. Vegas was packed with conventions so we decided to go low budge and stay at the crappiest place we could find. Honestly it was a glimpse into middle America to see the crowd in the casino, but still fun and the rooms were surprisingly nice. No kidding. Well we hit Whiskey Pete's about 10 A.M. I guess, and the coffee's we very ready to exit our bodies. So much so I had to tell Mak to shut the hell up with the jokes or I wasn't going to make it.
We decided to dig in to Whiskey Pete’s 3.95 breakfast before we headed the rest of the way into Vegas to catch the races. Pancakes rule. So do scrambled eggs. Onward now to the Vegas strip to catch the Red Bull Supermoto a gogo. We parked in the structure behind Bally’s and walked down 40 flights of stairs to get to ground level for the races. The track was much bigger than Del Mar, it had a lot more dirt section, a tunnel, and tons of cool spots to check out the asphalt action. We had to cruise around a bit to take it all in. Did I mention the race was free? Barely any crowd also…I just don’t get race fans in America. Nascar or nothing I guess.
We liked moving about the track to find where the best angles were for backing it in and sliding it out. Love that stuff. We still had a while before the Main Events so we decided to head over towards the vendors and pits. It was wild to see all the Red Bull bars set up selling cocktails outside at the race. We could have got smashed there but decided to save it for later, none of us are the young whippersnappers we used to be.
The pits were awesome as they were in Del Mar. I love how the pits at a supermoto race are filled with awesome riders from all aspects of racing. We met so many cool riders, guys we had never heard of, privateers that were doin it low budget style and the top guys on factory bikes. One of our favorites who is always cool as hell is Mike Metzger. That guy is great with the fans, always putting on a show on the bike and will always say what’s up in the pits. His personal truck was next to his trailer…picture a huge crew cab F-350 on monster tires, with license plate about head high saying WZUPFOO. How cool!
Also we bumped into Jason Pridmore who we are huge fans of since Chris, Mak, and myself went to his riding school. Got to chat with him for a bit about our lines again on streets hah. We were trying to catch Ben Bostrom but he was elusive as Robert Deniro. He spent no unnecessary time outside of his trailer. Miguel Duhamel was roaming around the big Honda trailer as well. The highlight for me was meeting Alex Hoffman who rides for Kawasaki in the Moto GP. He is a german kid about 25 years old, and he could not have been any cooler. We ended up chatting it up with him for a while about the bike he is riding in the GP and hopes for next year. He was somewhat stuck on a doggy KLX400 that wasn’t running right and they couldn’t fix it, so on this big track he had no chance against the beefy factory crf 450’s and KTM’s.
Also props to Jurgen Kunzel who was cool as hell after he had just got 2nd in the main event, even though he led the whole thing pretty much. That kid is so fast on a supermoto bike it is insane. Watching him do the superpole lap was scary he was going so hard.
After the races we had to head back to Whiskey Pete’s for some dinner and a quick nap before we went out and sucked down all the vodka and red bull that was in Las Vegas. We stopped at the Primm Valley Casino for their dinner buffet because the place looks like the Hotel Del Coronado and I thought it must be OK. Holy shit. I think we all agreed it was the absolute worst buffet we had ever been to in our lives. That even came from Mak and he has hit some buffet’s in his time. The fried oysters tasted like a fisherman’s cutting board at the end of the day. Could not get the taste out of my mouth. All of the other patrons in the establishment seemed to love the food, and were eating it like it was their last meal for the week.
Quick nap and it is time to get cleaned up to party. We were going to the supermoto a gogo after party at club Risque in the Paris Casino. After a hefty wait in line we got in, and everyone had waited for us to arrive before starting the party. Now it was on.
The details start to get blurry now, so I will wrap this up. After all what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas, or better yet…never happened. I will say we met up with Alex Hoffman and John Hopkins for some late night boozing, along with the rest of the Supermoto riders and the hot OLN announcer. I do remember something about Mak slinging our glassware off of our V.I.P. balcony at Risque into their fountain on the strip. I don’t think he was the only one doing it though. After this things really get foggy, but I know it was a lot of fun, and we didn’t get arrested. Good times.
See you there next year, if you don’t go you’ll never know.
