i was just talking to my buddy about the benefits of a K&N filter, and then i stumbled on this pic from steVe650S's album...
http://www.socalsvriders.org/albums/albup38/filters.sized.jpg
has anyone else removed the airbox and used filters like these?
does this mess with the FI on second gen. SV's?
i've got a yosh system and want to get some K&N's, and i like the idea of doing it like this:grin:....

Get a bmc filter...with that and the yosh system you are leaning out the stock fi so you will need to have it tuned or get a pc3 but you will want to have that tuned as well on a dyno.

That looks pretty slick, I wondet how well it works.

as I recall the guy said that it was _really_ loud.. and yeah, you might want to remap with that..

It looks similar to the Renegades Airkit.
The "roar" when you flick the trottle is great. :D
I remapped mine when i had installed the renegade pipe and airkit and it was running to way to lean before.

where did you guys go to get it remapped?....the dealer?

poo,
i don't know who reprograms the stock computer, but i know some shops do. otherwise a pcIII is a must....
its probably a good idea, not knowing the reprogramming charge, to just get the commander i guess... cuz then you can reprogram and save maps on your computer...
simonf,
thanks for the link. renegade products has got some kickass stuff. all i can say is....
dual carbon underseat exhaust for sv650?!!
that is awesome!:D
when i bought my bike they told me i could put dual exhaust or underseat exhaust on it, but i have never seen those systems for my bike. i thought they lied. but there they are....

PCIIIusb isn't your only option besides having the dealer remap your EFI.
You can also go the Techlusion TFi route: http://www.techlusion.com/
It's much easier to tune than a PCIIIusb, you don't need a computer. It works pretty much as a carburetor emulator.

Pod filters SUCK. Unless you have a HIGHLY tuned bike, pod filters might actually lose HP due to the HOT TURBULENT air that is forced into the throttle bodies. the best way to go is to take out the filter, leave the airbox (they are tuned for throttle body intake resonance etc) OR the best way is just thow in a K+N, so you have a little bit of filtration, and remap the bike and there you go. Pods will mess up the intake frequency and really lean things out. dont bother, unless you have a full out DONE UP engine...
also, stock CDI will not manage such a drastic change such as a K+N and a pipe etc. Power commander is WAY better. (although the teclusion box is a bit cheaper) the power commander has greater adjustabillity and all the maps are downloadable from their website.

I'm still waiting for my full devil sys, but I also have a K&N filter and PCIIIusb so what if I just take off the rubber funnel at the front of the air box that will work just fine right? And raise the tank a little? Off topic but what turn signals have any of you used with a high mount?

Yeah, I'm liking Renegade a lot myself. Unfortunately right now they only make a dual high-mount for the 03. I think the underseat looks best but I can't use my saddlebags with the high-mount or underseat so I'm waiting for low-mounts.

tcody360 is correct, more or less, about everything he said. I wouldn't do that to my bike, the airbox is there for a reason. You want the engine to draw cool, still air from the box instead of turbulent air. Also, I'm no expert but what if you were riding on a very, very rainy day?

Nothing happens. I've ridden with the snorkel out on a very, very, very rainy day. The water pretty much vaporizes and doesn't do any harm.
As for the Techlusion box, I've heard many good reports about 'em, though I don't have one myself (yet). The problem with the PCIIIusb is that it needs to be tuned on a dyno using dynojet software.
Downloading custom maps made for a bike that isn't yours isn't going to give you the best map. You need to have a custom map made for your bike. With the techlusion, you tune it like it's a carburetor, so you don't necessarily need a dyno to get good performance out of it.

Do you use soft luggare?
I use soft luggage together with my high livel pipe and it works fine when i made a protection plate that runs along the pipe under the bag. I bolted it to where the old exhaust pipe bolt use to be and under the passanger grab rail. Looks good and works fine ;)

I thought about some sort of heat shield but I think it might look funny especially if I take the bags off. Maybe if I made it easily removable it could come off with the bags.

dontcha hate it when people ignore your question....
i'll answer part of it...
i've got the hotbodies undertail with built in signals, and it would work fine with the high mount;)

It takes less than 5min for me to put the "shield" on or take it off. Two small bolts and thats it. I just put it on before the soft bags and imidiately take it off when i donīt use the bags. It absolutely does the job. I can take a picture of the shield and post it here this weekend.:)

riding without the snorkel? by snorkel do you mean Air filter? or by snorkel do you mean Air box? First of all, if you ride without the airbox, you deserve a kick. Lots of people race without air filters, that wont hurt anything (short interval oil changes and very little time spend running, so dust in the engine isnt much of a problem) Next, in order to PROPERLY tune ANY kind of fuel injection mapping system, you need to go on the dyno. sure you can get it kinda close, but no matter what kind it is, you need to see the power curve....and dont tell me you can tell if its a little bit rich at 7000 rpm and you could gain 1 HP from leaning it out etc.... and what Techlusion fails to inform you is that all you can do is richen up the mixture. if your at say 3500 ft, like me, it may be useless. Also, why in the world would ANYONE want their fuel injetion to act like carbs??? thats the whole point of fuel injection, they arent carburetors. if you want carbs I have a set of perfectly good 01' carbs, complete with a jet kit. i'll trade you lol. Carbs are the BIGGEST pain in the ass to tune. FI is SO the way to go, and the Power commander is far superior to Techlusion. techlusion throws in crap to make it sound AMAZING....who cares....it does the same thing as a power commander, just not quite as good. you can use either the tech. or Power comm. and not have to use a dyno, but if you want it done right, with either one you need a dyno.

NO no, not the filter or the box its the rubber 90 degree spout that hangs out off the airbox, just wondering if I have a PCIII, and I do no harm in taking it off right?

hey, I'm not very farmiliar with the bits and pieces of the 03's airbox, however, it sounds like that is just an air induction tube. I'm sure it wont do any damage to remove it. Do you notice any top end power differences with it out? it may be sucking hot air into the air box now, then again it may be restricting the air flow into the air box when it is still on. either way, it theres no noticeable power difference, then at least you have the weight savings of haveing it off heheheheh.. cyaa

Anyone have this?
What are your thoughts, etc.??
Thudds.

Not having the airbox will bugger with the FI.... By not having the Inlet Air Temp and Inet Air pressure sensor connected, as well as the PAIR valve, you'll be confusing the ECU... And may it may not work 100%

If you order a PCIII from buymoto, we can load a map specific to your bike and modifications you have made to it for free. I wish I remembered the price of a PCIII for an SV
