It was windy and cold. Big gusts that made it fun to change lanes without meaning to do so. Lots of big and small rocks on the ground in all the canyons. I was actually reasonably warm so the correct gear makes all the difference.
A guy at the Rock Store had a 1953 Vincent Black Shadow that his Father puchased brand new  in Santa Monica. It was unrestored and sweet.
I took Mulhulland all the way to PCH, and then up PCH to the 126 hitting unknown canyons along the way. Huge whitecaps at the ocean. I went to CalCoast Motorsports in Ventura, a large dealership with a good selcetion of bikes and accessories.
All in all, a good solo ride.
Cheers, Doug

Yea, it was fuckin cold here to, cold enough to make me run my bitch ass to target and buy a space heater for my bedroom.
The thunder actually woke my up this morning, along with the rain and wind.
...and yea, Im in so cal and bitchin about the cold, so what, that's why I pay the big $$ to live out here, cause we don't want the weather or seasons, so I dont wanna hear how cold it is in Wisconson or wherever, and I wont tell you how much I pay for cost of living out here.
oh, but my nuts are still attached to the bottom of my penis, so I guess I wasn't as cold as you were.

From just riding about an hour this afternoon, it took several hours afterwards before my knuckles stopped feeling sore from the cold.

Yeah, it was cold. I raced while it was snowing. Thankfully it wasn't coming down like it did in Unit74's pic., otherwise my slicks wouldn't have worked so well.

I don't have nuts to freeze.....:batlash:
I opted not to ride yesterday, but some of the guys I ride with went to the rock store too and said it was warm in the sun.
Of course, they had several layers on and even jackets over their leathers to resist that pesky wind problem.
Good cold times!

I WOULD have froze my nuts off...but luckily I had just bought my new leather jacket and pants over the weekend (with thermal liners). So compared to the mesh jacket/denim pants I used to commute in, MUCH warmer. Plus the ski mask and glove liners help too!

I was out with my perforated leathers with ultra-lightweight synthetic tights and heavy-weight thermal top underneath. If I had also put on my neck/face mask I am sure I would be fine (other than a little chill with the fingers).

The morning will be brutal.
I'm brining - a balaclava (cover neck up to nose), two top inner layers (underarmour coldergear top and ASICS performance fleece), performance tights and an adidas windbreaker (since my leather are perferated). Figure I'll at least ditch the windbreaker by mid-morning at the latest if I need it at all. Oh yeah...and some underlayer gloves....hands get a bit cold.

Keep in mind that it is better to not wear glove liners if your gloves already fit tightly. If your hands are too snugly wrapped then your circulation starts to get cut off and your hands are colder than if you had worn just your riding gloves alone.

I rode all over the canyons Sunday in Malibu...despite the wind. It reminded me of the MSF videos - there was tons of debris (rocks, sand, tree parts) on Coral Cyn, making it even more fun! Got blasted by sand on Malibu Cyn. And yes, got my nuts frozen off. Had to take a hot bath when I got home!!!

I rode form LA to SD this morning and I can atest to the nut freezing. I rode up from SD on Saturday night in the dark and was fine with an extra layer so I figured in the morning the sun would come out and it'd be warmer. Well I was wrong. Hey do you think we could demand a refund from our overpriced housing for the cold weather? Class action? hehe

lol, wimps!
when I first came up here(to oregon from LA) 2 years ago, I was riding to work at 6am in 20 degree rain..RAIN!
so... based on this experience-advice:
1) Wear long johns under your jeans
2) Wear a sweat shirt under your riding jacket.
3) gloves (THIS IS IMPORTANT YOU PUSSIES!!!:))
4) In the rain, your jeans airdry at the shins, but your thighs soak... so perhaps dry pants for arrival
thats it... easy enough.
And YES, I know it freezes at 32 degrees..another fruity fluke of oregon. lol

anyone wanna go for a ride ;)
My secret is two pairs of pants, a wife beater a thermal and a t shirt and last, but not least, two pairs of gloves.. (T.W.O. gave away a pair of mittens in an issue a few months back and man, thank god for 'em.)
It wasn't that bad. I rode up from SD to Ventura at 11pm on Sunday evening. I wore my full leathers zipped together with my snowboarding gloves and was going 80mph the whole time. I was chilled when I got home but it wasn't that bad.

I'm only on the bike commute long enough to wake up... I froze my nuts off on the 33 on sunday. As I took the 150 away from the ocen, I thought, it'll get warmer inland, like it does in the summer. Got to ojai, had breakfast, thought we'd outwaited the cold, took the 33, and it was so cold, that when I got off my bike, for fear of burning my legs with the frost off my nuts, I had to hold them for five minutes.. Dont' worry though, they were numb, so I got no joy out of this....

Holy Crap. We haven't had snow in WI... it hasn't even been cold enough during the daytime to get it yet.
