OK, here's what I did to be able to see behind elbows on my '03 SVS. I purchased a set of mirrors for an '04 GS500F. They bolt directly on w/o any modifications. The stalks are about 1 to 1.25 inches longer.
Happy T-day everyone.

that's very elegant. I went the spacers and longer bolts route; it looks ugly but boy is it ever a joy to be able to check what's on your tail.

So eh, how much were they, Hank?

Thanks guys. Unfortunately, they retail from the dealer for something like $76 each. I bought mine from Oneida for $45 each. I then sold my old ones on ebay to make up some of the $. It's only a matter of time before EMGO or some other after market company to start making them cheaper though (I'd assume).

It surprises me that an inch or so makes such a difference. Does it really work?

has any one tried the one inch mirror extenders from GenMar Mfg. (http://www.zianet.com/GenMar/s217.html) or is that what slowmike says is ugly?

When they get too long though the bike looks like a bug with antannae from the front. It bugs me.
Heh.

Here's my before:

and after:
The inch or so makes a tremendous difference (or so I'm told:D ).
I checked out the spacers and did not like the look, but that's me. I also think that if the spacers are an inch thick that they would not provide as much extension as an inch longer stalk due to the geometry.
I agree with the "bug look". I've seen a pic of a SVS with daytona mirrors (I think they are about 2-3 inches longer) and they were a bit much.
One thing though, you can't argue with the safety and convenience of being able to see behind you.

when will they start having tiny LCD monitors in your helmet so u can see what's behind u without having to have bug anteanne mirrors? i think that would be cool..but wonder how much that helmet would cost..or the difference in protection...

Wow, that's also a cool and nice looking solution! I bought some spacers from www.chewys-stuff.co.uk but I haven't got them yet.
Unfortunately this mirror swap mod is somewhat more expensive then spacers.

Got my Chewy spacers. Look nice and provide less arm and elbow in your mirror. :D It's not ideal for me, as i have a handlebar conversion. For SV's with clip-ons it's a good and cheap mod though. Doesn't look TO bad also.
Hanknum's mod got my thinking. What about the new Bandit 650S mirrors? (See picture below. Source: www.suzuki.co.uk) Would they be the same as the GS500F mirrors?

I want to put 03-05 mirriors on my 02 just because I think they look better but now I just need someone's 03-05 to test with because I'm not sure of the bolt pattern is the same or not.

Just ask someone to take measures of the mirror mounting holes of '03-'05 mirrors.

Hankum, could you be more precise about the length of the stalks please? I'm thinking of combining my spacers with the GS mirrors.

but I just swapped my spacers and OEM mirrors with a set of triumph mirrors. The view is almost the same... and in a way better.
So if anyone wants a pair of 1 inch spacers. I'll sell them cheap.
DAN!

will it be legal to take off the mirrors completely..then replace it them with a camera ont he back of the bike, having a screen like next to the dash or something?

Wouldn't be a problem. Just tell me what you precisely need to know. Or better, send me an e-mail of or pm.
How fast do you need it by the way? I'm getting a new screen in about two weeks, so I'll probably have to remove my mirrors.
