View Full Version : Need some help with Suzuki Frame Sliders
OK, so I ordered the Suzuki kit thinking "large company, designed the bike in the first place..hmmm.... good product in stock somewhere right?"
So I did get some frame sliders. The P/N on the bag matches the P/N on all the websites for my bike (SV1000). Here's the rub
The kit can without instructions. There are two 10mm bolts of different lengths, and the flanged bushings also have a different length. I looked at Suzuki's promo pic to see what holes they thought I should install them in. When I pulled those bolts out, they are EXACTLY the same length of the bolts in the kit.
I cannot figure out a way to use these bolts to attach the frame sliders at all. Nor can I figure out which side is supposed to get the long or short bushings. Or even why.
Oh yeah, it also came with one narrow 10mm washer. ???
What am I missing here?

They dont mount symmetrically to the bike. One of them will go in a recessed bolt hole (right above the water pump)

and the other will go on the forward most bolt.

Make sense? didn't think so.
Oh, I didnt answer your question. Just replace the stock bolts with the ones in the kit. Slide them through the sliders, frame and thread into engine block. If you got the wrong screws I will trade you mine for the stock ones. (I am removing my sliders)

Should've bought Moto sliders, they bolt right in.
Moto Slides was what I originally was thinking. However, they show no listing for SV1000's, and after several attempts at contacting them I needed to do something else if I had any shot at having the sliders on for the track day.
As for where the things are supposed to mount, the bolt that is above the water pump is a bolt that goes all the way through the engine. Not only do I not have the right length, that bolt is large diameter to go through anything in the kit.
Can you tell me how it is supposed to assemble? Bushing flange inside the slider or between the slider and the bike. Which side gets the bushing that is so long that the slider will rattle and spin, or alternately, which gets the one that is so short that the slider will be held tight? What am I supposed to use to space everything out of the spot face (since the regular washers, flanged bushings and sliders are all too large of a diameter)?
Running out of time here.

The washers go inside the sliders. You dont need to fill up the hole just cover it w/ the slider.

The only thing swingarm sliders really are for is to jack the bike up. I haven't seen a crash where frame sliders allowed the swingarm to be damaged. Your bike comes from the factory with bar end sliders (the black painted metal part) but I would definately recomend getting frame sliders. You can get them for around $20-30 on ebay. I would try to get the longest you can find, mine are 3 1/2" long. That way they will save your frame and your fairings.

I own motorcycle service and repair shop and I have seen a lot of bikes with frame sliders that were crashed and got swing arm damage that would have been avoided with swing arm sliders.

i think im going to get more heavy duty delrin ones...i have these cheap little aluminum ones, but they're more for just propping the bike up on a stand than protecting in a crash....

Cant attest to how crashworthy they are (yet  ), but the Shogun sliders I got were pretty inexpensive on eBay and longer than a lot of the other sliders I've seen on the market. In my mind, longer sliders means less of a chance of your (expensive!) radiator getting hit in a fall.
Just my $.02 (USD)

I just received my Delrin swingarm sliders I bought on e-bay. They'r longer and bigger around than the aluminum ones. They look like they'll do the job nicely-when needed. They cost $21 + $4 s&h. The look great and match my Motosliders up front.:groove: Love 'em:love:
