I recently bought a 2002 Suzuki SV650 and having so much fun with. I tried a friend of mine's SVS, and definitely prefer the feel of the clip ons. Anybody care to give me the lowdown on what type/brand I should get...what to look out for, etc?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Oh...and if you know where I can get a black solid rear cowl, you'd be pretty damn cool in my book.

Safe riding!

I am liking the GSXR clipons I have, but you'll need a GSXR front end to use them :p

GSXR Clip-ons are nice and my choice as well :D

well, someone needs to help this dude out.

he doesn't have a gixxer front end, and he shouldn't have to buy one just to fit some clipons:confused:

you should just get stock sv clipons....

you liked your friends, and that's what he has.

all sv clipons are 2in rise, meaning they raise 2in from where they mount to the fork tube, and the gixxer clipons are 1in rise (but mount to a different diameter fork tube) so they are a little more aggressive...

i've got some protek clipons (no rise at all) that i'll sell you if you want, but you don't want them. trust me...

get some stock sv clipons....

i've seen a naked with S clipons...looked good...you could probably find some on ebay...you have to do some fiddlin and dremel'in to get em to fit tho

i have vortex clipons, i love them...they're more aggressive than the S position

you might also consider just the suburban machinery type 1 bars...they actually put you in the same position as the S, without having to make additional adjustments...just slap em on and roll

I don't think I'm at the point where I want the more aggressive of the two clip ons. I'd also like to go with the set that requires the least amount of modifications to the bike itself. If you guys had to choose, would that be the stock clip ons, or the vortex ones?

and thanks tsrider and Sandie for more practical responses!

if you're just lookin for the S bar placement...i'd go with the suburbian machinery type 1's....far less work to install than clipons

Definitely a clever way to achieve something similiar to the svs clip ons. But I think when it's all said and done, I'd rather have the clip ons, so I think I'll find somewhere to snag a set of Vortex clip ons and begin the fun.

Next is losing the fender and getting a rear cowl.

ok, well, if you HAVE to have clipons...look for some stock SVS ones...that'll give you the same setup as the SVS...the vortex are lower than the stock SVS ones...but like i said, it takes some work to get em on (ya have to grind some stuff to so they can fit)

but heck, if you want vortex, by all means get them...i love mine
they actually did take a bit of work to get on as well...you have to remove the upper triple clamp, and then the headlight bracket and basically flip it over in order for the clipons to fit

Sounds like a plan to me. I have a few friends who love taking their bikes apart and putting them back together, so they should be able to lend some help in the process. Thanks for all the info Sandie.

in case you decide to go with aftermarket - I've got woodcraft clipons on mine and the 3-piece design makes life great when you're changing/replacing things (which i have a tendency to do a little too often) -- you don't have to even touch the triple to get the controls, bars, clip-ons off.

Hey Cali...how do they compare as far as placement and comfort compared to say the Vortex or the Standard S ones?

tsRider

i'll tell you comfort goes way down with race clipons.

i think you should get stock ones, but like i said, i have some protek clipons i'll sell you for pretty cheap, if you want...

how much and why are you selling them?

well i bought them at the killer price of $80, used em for a few weeks, and they don't fit well on SVS's. they are too low and they make it so your thumbs get smashed between the bars and the fairing. nothing in the way on nekkid bikes tho, so if you feel like hunching over, it works fine...

i'd like to pass them on for $80 if i could, they cost around $150 from vendors...

I have a set of 2004 SVs clip-ons if anyone wants them...came off my bike at 1,200 miles for my GSXR swap. Perfect. $80 + shipping?

Thanks

My friend recently got a used 03 CBR600RR ... I don't know if it has aftermarket clip-ons, but when I rode that bike, when I turned the handle bars, it pinched my fingers up against the fairing. I hope that's not stock, because that would be pretty damn annoying.

Yeah..that could be a serious pain in the....finger. Okay..bad joke. But I have no fairings, so that won't happen in my case.... I decided to go with the Woodcraft. I like the ease of on and off.

suburban machinery type 1's rock
vortex clip ons I am sure contributed to my getting Tendinitious
if you are racing great but if commuting or canyon carving lots of miles I say go with T1s or the fav gxsr front end and clip ons
haven't ridden my SV since I don't know when but w/ the T 1's back on I will A-OK - the vortex are a bitch to put on, not as sturdy as the T1 and the vibrations are significant, got ya in the go fast mood & looked cool but not good for putting on miles on the bike in my opionion
Sandie and Jwalstad dig 'em though

Has anyone tried just mounting their stock clipons lower on the fork tubes?

Thu 11/25/04, 7:07AM
yes I lowered my OEM SVS clipons about 1/2" or so..... that was the most I could go w/o clearance issues. I used a nylon cylindrical spacer to fill the gap where the index bolt goes up through the underside of the triple clamp.

sorry, no pics, bike has been stripped to a racer. currently running Pro-Tek clipons... i like the simple and low-profile design.

peace,
jSV

i would just like to chime in and endorse the woodcraft clip ons. i have a set and calisv was right, three piece construction makes putting them on super easy. you dont even have to take off your triple.

but be aware that if you get clip-ons, of any kind, your stock mirrors will look retarded. i went and got a set of bar ends. not only do they look better, but i can see a lot more than my shoulder now.
