yes, lots of people in socal do not wear proper gear. but almost everybody on this board does wear the right gear.

yes, i have wore all my gear when i got it..when i had my jacket and gloves wore those 98% of the time..then i got my boots..wore those 100% of the time..now i got my pants and so far wore those 98% of the time....i tried riding without my gear a few times in the course of my riding career but i didnt not feel comfortable at all..and i was much more squirrly when i rode...people on their gixxers and Kawis may laugh at me when i roll up beside them..but come crash time i'd rather look like a dork in full leathers than be in some hospital bed wearing full bandages

A dork? I think full leathers look badddassss!!! I wish I could afford a full suit and boots and stuff! theres no way I could wear it everyday but..... it would be nice to have for long rides, etc..
Seeing as my bike is my primary and only use of transportation right now... it would be kinda weird to go into work in FULL LEATHERS.... change.. and then work.... I really do need a jacket though....
I ride with gloves and a helmet right now. Better than nooothin :D

Actually, the great part is we CAN wear T-shirts and jeans in the winter, if we want to. You, on the other hand, would be in a hospital if you did. I think he's just jealous! He has a secret desire to be a Socal Squid, but has to bundle up like the Michelin man. Or worse, his bike is laid up for the winter and can't ride. Are there lots of track days in Canada Thanksgiving weekend? I think it was 67 and sunny last Friday.

Dude, I do it EVERY DAY. I'm the only one with a bike in a company of over 50 people. I am regarded as "eccentric," but everyone's used to it now. I change in my office.
Look at Tiller's suit crash pictures, and see what amazing protection he got going down at 75mph. On the street...35-40mph will be more realistic, but you shouldn't be taking any chances.
Screw what people think. Deep down they know they are weenies in comparison...you are more "alive" than they are, and it makes people nervous.
Enjoy their discomfort.

Think your T-shirt will hold up?
Your a tough guy. Jump off the bike with no gear. DOIT!

So glad you are in Canada. We have enough little kid, punk, newbs like you to deal with.
This site, above all of the others I have been on has the least amount of squids on it. Almost everyone on here has been to a track day, MSF class or wears allot of gear every time they ride. Not all, but definitely the majority. Grow up and educate yourself.

I always wear at least helmet, gloves, and jacket. If I am going anywhere but the 7-11 down the street I wear pants too. My 1 and only crash was only at 25 or so and every piece of gear protected me in some way. Helmet took a hit (had to buy a new 1, rf-1000), I landed on my elbow (which was fine due to gear), and my thumb had a nice chunk out of it (the one day I dont wear gloves).

I ride wearing whatever I want, when I want. If it is hot and I dont feel like wearing my jacket for the 1.5 mile trip to work, then I dont. I always wear my helmet and gloves. It comes down to a persons own choice.
I think most on this board who have had the opportunity to ride with me will say I am a safe rider. I think people should wear their gear if they will be in a situation where the gear will make a big difference. I do not ride any place other than work without it. I dont have to get on the freeway or exceed 35mph to get there. It is my choice, if that makes me less of a rider/person in your eyes then fuck you. :finger:
Just because someone makes the choice not to wear their gear that makes them an idiot? Yes I have crashed.... and yes, with AND without gear. The injuries I sustained without gear would not have been prevented by the gear. A jacket would not have saved my knee from getting twisted and ending up with a torn ACL. When I crashed with my 1 piece on, yes it saved me a bit of rash, but didnt, nor would it ever have saved me from the broken collar bone.
I am aware of the risks I take when riding without my jacket, I accept them. You dont have to. Who cares what somebody else is wearing when they ride, as long as they are not endangering you, who the fuck are you to say boo about it?

i didnt say that meaning that i bought the bike planning on not wearing any gear because i had no money. when i bought the bike i knew i would be covered as far as gear goes. i had an agreement with my parents, they would pay for the gear as long as i ride safe and never go without it. i would never ride with out my jacket helmet, and gloves even if my parents were ok with that.
but if you dont wear gear, at least remember that there are people who care about you and will miss if you dont come home. hopefully everyone will remember that when riding.

Wearing gear actually saved my buddies life.He was wearing a 2 piece suit ,boots, full face helmet and a back protector. The back protector took the hit .If it wasn't for his gear he would be dead or even physically screwed up.He actually crashed a few months ago on Sunset by UCLA.Luckily he was riding with his riding friends when it happened. The paramedics thought he was dead when they showed up.He stayed in the hospital overnight for observation but no scratches on him because of his gear.So if you value your life and skin gear up.He still rides to this day but still rides like a maniac. He at least wears his gear all the time.Death is an option with no gear.

as somone who used to teach a mc safety course we would tell everyone to always wear their gear even in the hot weather. that being said we also said that if it was very hot and wearing your gear made you uncomfortable then your mind was not where it should be...you should be comfortable. if yoou read between the lines then do so at your own risk. but if you always wear your gear even when it is warm then it is somthing you get used to.
everyone knows the risks with or without gear it is a personal choice. i personally do not ride without my gear nor do my friends.
but i do not know how this thread became a canadian bashing thread from the voice of one. i personally do not know what you guys wear 90% of the time nor would i make an assumption but i hope you are comfortable and your mind is on your ride.

I saw pictures of my buddies bike after his crash and wow it's bad.He was lucky,The bike was trash.Newenough.com has low priced leathers.Wear the gear.

Hey Mitch don't worry about it! Hell lurk here for a while until you see what it is all about. There is some good info on here with some good people. I think some people were a little harsh on you because you sounded like you were bragging a bit about it. And that is just stupid. We have had some friends on this site get seriously injured and if it wasn't for their gear they would have been killed. Hell we have even had members killed while riding in full gear. I think some people just don't want that to happen to another member and the slap in your face was the way for them to try and get you to see that riding in gear is the only way to go. It may have not been the right way to tell you, but I think they were just trying to get their message across. Stick around and brush your shoulders off buddy.

Mitch, you knew you were asking for trouble, and you should know that if you look for trouble on this site you will get it in spades. ;) It isn't personal, but when you make a broad statement about the squidliness of riders in SoCal you are asking for everyone and their grandmother to chime in.

I didn't chime in only because I took his statement as something stupid and smug. I am only chiming in now because I don't care to see someone leave because people are sticking up for their beliefs or care not to see someone of such a young age (17) do something stupid and get hurt.

dictionary? i think its spelled arrogant??.. im pretty sure.. im not taking sides.. just spell checking :) i am canadian...i am not leaving...i still do stupid stuff and i am not a teenager...i enjoy this site and all that goes with it. but if you are going to slag people, slag the people that ask for it. since this thread started because of one persons comment grouping everyone together, you guys got pissed and rightfully so. if you wear your gear you wear your gear. so why group all canadians together. we are not all like that, as i am sure all you are not all errogant americans. "stinking canadians?" and WTF is canadianeze? if you are going to insult a group please pick up a fucking dictionary and insult us at least with the correct spelling.

Moosehead may suck, but Molson's and Labatt's are probably the best quality-per-dollar beer anywhere around. When you can find a 12-pack of that stuff for $7, I'd say that's a pretty good deal..........it's way better than crap like Bud, or that Mexican pisswater known as Corona
