I found a link to some of the notable times around there..
http://www.nordschleife.no/
The fastest bike times are in the 7:55 sec range with a bunch around 8min. The fastest road legal car around there is a 7:19 in Phil Bennett's Radical SR3 turbo (750lb car with a turbo'd busa motor)... And I got a video of that radical running that too... *grins*

It would be interesting to take those carousel turns on a bike, no?

That would be a kickass track on a bike, or in a car.
...oh, and mike, I see your the only one that voted for taking it in a car;)
yeah lotsa bikes chuck it and die there every year. And yet for some reason I think I'll be different.:D

hey I went to the ring about 6 times, when I was living in england a few years back and the place is awesome.
1st time there and 1st lap scared the sh*t out of me what with all the cars and fast guys.
I think i got over about 65 to 70 laps round the place and to just know your way around takes like 50 or so laps.
saying that the place is really dangerous, you will see a incident on every lap...they close the track down all the time..(bad crash)people die here a lot!.
but I kept going back with a couple of fast buddies..this is one place you really have to ride at least once in your live time, every type of corner, crazy fast sections, and those two caruosels.
sometimes it's just cool to hang out on the balconey resturant and watch the madness,if you are into fast cars this is the place to go.

I can push a car a whole hell of a lot harder than I can push a bike. Sliding on four wheels can be saved by a fairly competent driver, sliding on two wheels takes a lot of luck and a ninja master.
I have seen that Radical at the Ring footage. Fucking awesome is all I can say.
I think you can see it here.

Am I reading that right when it says that the BMW X5 Le Mans was only 5 secs slower than the Radical?
SUV haters take note.

Wow; sounds like I should get european delivery of my next car and "break in" the car around the ring. Doesn't 65-70 laps get $$$ @ close to $20USD a pop?

So you're saying that only us Kawasaki riders can handle it? :p

I have never even been to a motorcycle track day let alone raced my bike. I would not have total confidence that I could go to a track day and not crash, which is part of why I don't do them.
I feel very confident about a four-wheel track day.
My point about the car is that even a rank beginner can lose control of a car and reel it in, (Or at least not end up detached from the vehicle and sliding along the tarmac,) but the same person losing control on a bike is going to be sliding on the ground more often than not.
I am not talking about a little rear wheel slip coming out of the corner, or backing it in.

if any one of you guys is interested about the ring this is a really great website (i think there are even some pic's of me and my buddies in there somewhere).
www.nurburgring.org.uk.
read the warning!!!.
enjoy....steve
if my chance any of you guys get to go there..you purchase a 6 or 12 lap ticket for the day...as buying single laps get kinda $$$.
also the cheapest way is to borrow your buddies season pass when his is still sleeping of the beer from the night before.that is what I would do early most morning as soon as the track was open.
as there are only two place's where you can enter and exit the track.and you do not get to do continous laps as the front straight you have to get off and get back on again.there is a gate where you swipe your ticket.
also it costs more for motorcycles than it does for cars per lap????.the bike's tend to crash more and take longer to clean up (sic).

I was making a joke, cuz you said Ninjas... get it? Eh? Eh? Haha...
You should go to a track school first, it's a lot of fun. If you do everything they tell you and don't go beyond maybe 75-80% of your limits you should do OK.

Shit I totally missed that. That's funny.
Yeah, I think my first track day will either be a trackschool with their bike, or after I get another bike. I would hate to dump this SV and then be out a bike for a month or two.

Haha, I know exactly what you mean No_Brakes!
And yes it does suck not having a vehicle after the trackday.
Big time.

I can go if I want to. :D
But I'm planning on doing it when I can ride a little. At the moment I don't even consider going there. Want to have some experience on safer tracks first. The don't call it "The Green Hell" for nothing...
By the way, I know a couple of Dutch bikers who do about 700-800 Ring laps a year... $$$$$$$

Last time I dumped my SV I was without a bike for 2 months.
No track days till I have a back up ride.
I commute on the SV so it is a big deal.
I can take it easy in the canyons, but If I pay $120+ for a track day and endure the desert sun, I am NOT going to take it easy. I won't be balls out 10/10ths, but I won't be easy going either.

I plan on watching the IOM TT some time in the next few years and whilst back in Europe I'm gonna hire a bike and ride the Ring for sure, have wanted to visit it for years now.
