Hi everyone, this is my first post and I need some advice please. I just purchased an SV1000S and find the riding position to be uncomfortable. I am wondering if I should put Sunrisors/Helibars along with lowered footpegs (naked sv650 peg mounts), or sell it and buy a naked? I originally wanted a naked 650, but the copper 1000S is beautiful and I bought it out of lust - but it is 50lbs heavier and uncomfortable to ride for very long and I am having second thoughts about it. Any ideas or suggestions?

I was having a lot of problems with sore wrists and numb fingers before I switched to Helibars. Now the only thing that limits the distance I can ride without stopping is the capacity of the gas tank. Helibars only increase the bar height by 1 1/2 inches, but also place my hands at a more comfortable angle.

I found that the rise in the bars relieved not only the numbness in the hands but took pressure off my lower back and my knees as well. I still may swap peg brackets for a Naked at some point, but I'm not in much discomfort in the meantime. Point is, with higher bars, you may find the stock pegs to be bearable.

Also, with the higher bars I can more easily sit further back on the widest part of the seat, making life a lot easier for the ol' nads.

BTW, have you tried rotating the brake and clutch levers down? In the position they came in from the dealer, I had to keep my wrists bent pretty sharply to ride with my fingers resting on the levers, which is my preference. A few adjustments made a lot of difference. Also, increasing front spring preload will shift your weight a little to the rear, which may help take some pressure off your hands

Good luck, whatever choice you make.

I put helibars on my naked 650 and like the riding position. They're comfortable for touring and I like them on the track too. Being bolt upright with the standard bars wasn't comfortable for me.

You might have a look at convertibars too

Kinda pricey with the full kit, but you might be able to get a better deal on the brake lines elsewhere. Good excuse to upgrade to steel lines too!

I to made the same decission and had the same afterthoughts, should I have gotten the sv650n? I got a get seat and that helped some (lower seat height) but I want to still get some helibars. After 3 months and about 2700 miles, I am loving the sv1000s and don't regret my decision at all.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I think I am going to keep the sv1ks and look into the mods. Has anyone had experience with the LSL Superbike Handlebar kits at spieglerusa.com (includes top triple clamp, bar, hoses, etc)? Thanks again.

Check the SV1000 portal for that. Some members over there have mounted the LSL kit. Would like to give you some links, but the site is down now. :(

I mounted a ABM handlebar conversion kit on my bike and wouldn't trade it for the world. Have been looking into other clip-ons also and it took me a long time to decide which way to go. But at the end they were much more expensive then a handlebar conversion.

Besides that, I think that if you're looking for a totally relaxed riding position, other clip-ons isn't the way to go. They provide a slight improvement in the position, where a handlebar conversion provides a huge improvement!!!

Try eBay if you're looking for a conversion kit. Got mine from eBay germany brand new and saved me about $100 compared to the dealer. :D
