View Full Version : Has SOW changed lately?
For those who were at the track last Friday and were curious about my GPS project, here's one image of my two laps over the satellite image of SOW.
It's very impressive that you can actually see the lines with a reasonable precision, even though 2 laps is not enough to calibrate the map correctly.
But there's one thing that intriguing me. Turn 4 is not matching. Can someone tell me if it was reformed lately to be less sharp?
Here's a picture

Sorry Paolo, I can't answer your question but....That is way cool!!!!!!
LOL!
hehehee, if it was T6 I'd say that it would perfectly match mojo's line... :D

yeah,
i'd have to say that project is way cool. so you superimposed your gps data onto a picture you downloaded?
it is amazing the accuracy that gps provides now!
it looks like your line is off the track between turns 9 and 10 too....
we need a new arial photo!!!
good work paolo. congratulations on your success:eek:

Cool stuff, Padu.
Does your GPS log your position at fixed time intervals (e.g., every second)?

So, do you think the GPS track makes more sense then?

My software draws the gps data over the picture. Actually it will work for anything, could be satellite imagery or a simple drawing, you just need to synchronize known locations on the image with real world coordinates.
Even if you don't have the background image, the track itself says lot's of things.

I still have a good chunk of work to do before it's ready for marketing, but I'm happy it's proven feasible.
I realize that on T9->T10. I didn't spent too much time on calibration, that's why.

Yeah your gps probably makes more sense.
You came up with all of this software? that is awesome! Good work!

That's the cool stuff... most of commercial available GPS' allow you to record data and playback later on your computer, BUT, their recording memory is limited and acquisition frequency is 1Hz (1 fix per second).
The device I'm engineering will have almost unlimited storage capability and will allow to sample gps data (real data, not interpolation) at 4Hz. Because gps unit already calculates instantaneous velocity with a very good accuracy, 4Hz is more than enough for our purposes. (especially for slow asses like Kevin :) )

The software is really simple right now, it's only for prototyping and testing. The project is in the hardware phase still. The software will provide really cool analysis in a very simple and visual way.
