Well guys... I'd hate to say it.... but in 3-4 weeks I'm trading my 3 week old SV in for an 05 Gixxer :D

Might lose a little bit of cash out of it... but, I really want the Gixxer.

Yeah... im still not sure if I should trade it in or sell it. (The SV that is)

I've only had it for going on 3 weeks this Sat. - it has 856 miles on it. :D

If I could get like 6-6300 for it , I would sell.... but, I dont know.

Dont know who would buy it for that when they could just go and get a new one for the price.... lol. Well, but not really... cause, if you include all the taxes and stuff of a NEW bike... its like 7500 for a new SV .... you can get a slightly used one for about a grand cheaper :D

Your gonna get crushed on that sv whether you sell it or trade, but more so if you trade.

For the dealers, getting rid of the copper leftovers is about as easy as getting rid of herpes, and that is with factory financing available bla bla. Your best bet is to try and sell it yourself, trust me.

The copper ones had a lower price in most dealers after they had sat a while. Some people really dig it though, I liked the silver better.

(I know what your saying, the prices were knocked pretty low for the coppers at most dealerships)

I think he meant he's planning doing that in 3 weeks time, not that he had the SV for 3 weeks. If that's so, then I'd have to agree with Sir Connery

no, he said trade his 3 week old sv in three weeks meaning it will be a 6 week old sv when he trades it in.

856 miles?

Well, kinda depends on the rider... maybe he's been riding for years and just decided to get a smaller twin because he's heard such great things about the SV.... then the SV didn't live up to what he was looking for...

Or, maybe his skin graft addicted buddies all laughed at him because he couldn't pull a 4th gear wheelie on the freeway

The world may never know.

Don't you still have to pay taxes on a used bike when you go and register it?
I think they are still selling new ones OTD for $6200.

Is the sv your first bike? If we seem like assholes its because we fear you are buying too much bike for yourself. You didn't post how much experience with bikes you had so I'll reserve my judgement.

This is an SV site, you had to realize that your responses were going to be somewhat negative in regards to your getting rid of the SV. Many people will purposely post, knowing they are going to get flamed anyways. They call them trolls.

If you don't care about losing a lot of money, be our guest. Your (in)decision is going to cost you a lot of money.

Thu 12/2/04, 1:00PM
Who called you a squid?

From what I have read on other cycle forums, allot of newer riders sell there mid sport bike with 900 miles and buy a Gsxr600/750/1000/ZX10R. Sure they crash and burn, but at least your not alone.

It's unfair to judge you without knowing about your riding experience? How many years have you been riding?

I moved up to a 2004 Sixxer from the SV and I haven't regretted my decision at all. I owned my SV for almost a year when I made the switch and felt that I had the maturity to step up to the supersport without getting into too much trouble (speeding tickets notwithstanding :p ).

I let Quicksilver try out my bike the other day and his comment was something to the effect of "it's like going from a regular car to a Porsche... everything is so much more crisp and responsive"
(it was hard to hear him over the exhaust noise and through my earplugs).

The SV is a great bike, but I'm sure you're going to be more than happy with the Gix. Have fun!

Thu 12/2/04, 1:23PM
Dude, if the Gixxer is what floats your boat, and it's within your budget...then there's no reason you shouldn't get one.

Still, there's questions we can't help but ask... My biggest one is, what's so different about the '05 Gix 6 from the '04, that you'd be willing to unload the new bike you bought 3 weeks ago, at what will certainly be a substantial financial loss, to get one? If there's no substantial difference, other than graphics, why didn't you just buy the '04 Gix instead of the SV to begin with?

Thu 12/2/04, 1:52PM
Going to something more sophisticated isn't a crime. Even a newbie can tell the obvious differences.

The sin is the money that will be wasted.

The sin is if you drive like a maniac too soon.

I LOVE my new bike, and have no intention of ever owning an SV again. Two different animals.

Ok. God can strike me now...

...I went to an RR.......then a Gix.....

...but this is after 3 years........of trying to beat the SV to the ground........

....so the probability of me making all the same stupid mistakes.......on the more expensive bikes is low.......

....if your experience.........is about 3 weeks worth..............then the reaction of many people who have responded is understandable.......

.....it's typical squid behavior..................they're just callin it......like they see it.......

....and instead of getting offended..........if you listen........you may save yourself alot of money.....and pain....

.....

....if I upgraded the rear suspension................the SV would still be plenty bike for me........

....I wouldn't say the move is like a regular car to a porsche................the SV is plenty nimble and fast....

....it's more like moving from a 350Z.......to a 911 twin turbo.....

 HAHAHA you're stupid Jay! j/k I agree tho...i think its much easier to type it GSXR. Anyhow... I love my SV! The SV is kinda like my project bike and I prolly wont get rid of mine for maybe 3-4 years later after i get back to good ol US...I think I'll be REALLY skilled after riding here in Germany, AUTOBAHN is kinda scary enough driving a car on it. (no speed limit on autobahn, recommended speed limit of 130 kmph/80mph...but no speed limit) I might even keep it and get me another bike, like I said, the SV is my project bike.

Paulp90:

As you can see, the people at this site are kind of strange, don't let it get to you.

You made the right choice; a couple years down the line you will be glad you stuck with the SV. You can beat the crap out of the SV in the name of learning and if/when you do decide to upgrade, you will be a better rider.

Plus you won't be wasting all the money in the switch.

Paulp90
Fri 12/3/04, 12:58PM
lol, there wasnt much of a fight to put up cause I still wasnt sure if I wanted to do it or not.

I realized that it would be a waste of money to get the Gixxer.

And for me typing Gixxer doesnt really matter, cause I type over 110+ words a minute so it doesnt really matter to me.

(Not to brag or anything ;])

But yeah, I figure just making my SV a better bike would be more fun, cheaper, and..... cheaper! :D lol

Plus, SV's are fun bikes to ride! I think once I get my full fairings and full exhaust I will appreciate it alot more. :D

Have a good day guys.

johney
Fri 12/3/04, 2:46PM
ya know....this is a perfect thread that can be used as an example " to each their own ".

i can understand everyone's point about wasting a lot of money or maybe someone is gettin a bike that's a bit too much for em. or maybe they're just not happy with the sv.

i know when i bought my naked 02 a couple years ago, i thought it was pretty damn ugly, but i did my research, and seen potential in it. became my project bike. i love mine, and will never get rid of it. not just cuz it's an awsome bike to ride, may be a bit under powered compared to all the other bikes. but i put a lot of heart into it, and made it what i wanted. but it's a blast. and as of about a week ago, it's officially mine. all paid off!!

but if someone wants to eat up 2 or 3 grand to get a bike they want, HAVE FUN and RIDE SAFE. may not be the smartest decision to a lot of us, but if it's what ya really want, you won't regret it one bit.

not downing on anyone or anything, so i don't want anyone to think i am, but just expressing my opinion as everyone else has.

everyone enjoy, havn't seen my bike in 5.5 months, and got less than 2 weeks til i'm home again.

The Ninja 250 is definately a more ideal first bike and there is a possibility that I may be picking up an SV as a second bike this weekend, we shall see.
