okay, so i just got a chatterbox last week, and haven't really gotten a chance to use it as a radio....

i have been rocking out to music on the road, but no 2 way communications yet.

my question is about the channels and talk groups on the chatterbox x1:

i guess i don't understand what a 'talk group' is...

but,

how would i raise another rider on the cb? yeserday a guy on a green kawi pulled next to me on the 15N, and we both had our CB's on...

what would be the procedure for the two of us to match channels?

he was pushing buttons on his trying to find me i think, and was talking to send a signal (not uninterupted tho), but we didn't connect....

so who knows how to work one of these things??

:geek:

One of you could use the scanning function while the other transmits, but if you are using the "talk groups" I don't think you will find each other because I don't think the CB scans the talk groups, just the regular channels.

well that leads me to my question i guess....

what exactly are the talk groups? are they separate channels?

for example you could have channel 1, talkgroup 1....

is that different from channel 1, talkgroup 0?

if that is the case then i dont' understand why there are channels and talkgroups, and not just more channels...

hmm . . . I don't know the answer. I used ot think that the "talk groups" were a way of encoding the signal, but if that were the case then you would hear the transmission, on channel 1 for instance, but unless your CB was also set to group 1, you would just hear a bunch of jibberish, which is not the case. This leads me to believe that the talk goups are actually different channels; maybe the channels are 1hz, 2 hz, etc and the talk groups allow the CB to transmit/receive at 1.1hz, 1.2 hz, 1.3hz, etc.
