View Full Version : Help! Dad crashed my bike!

My dad took a light spill on my bike this morning. Looks like he lowsided on the left side. He is okay with scrapes on both knees and his left elbow and forearm. He doesn't listen when I tell him to wear my armored Joe Rocket jacket and pants, or the Aerostich suit I spent a fortune on-- he insists that his fashion-weight leather jacket is good enough. Maybe he'll be less stubborn now...

On to the bike-- It has a scraped fairing and tail section, which now matches the right side of the bike (byproduct of the previous owner). The tank is okay thanks to the Intuitive Pro Sliders (there's still the dent on the right side from previous owner). Looks like the slider took most of the force since it was shredded ~1" shorter than new and bent back ever so slightly. The barend slider is also scraped and the clutch lever broken (at least those are cheap). The left mirror folded over and has a few scratches. Frame and engine are untouched!

The only obviously broken part is the plate that mounts the shifter rod and left footpeg. It snapped, shift rod and peg are fine. Where do I get a new one of these, or is there a good used market? I have never seen one on eBay or in the classifieds of svrider.com so I'm at a loss here. I'm trying to avoid the dealer for obvious cost reasons. Are there any good bike junkyards in SoCal?

Finally, what should I check on the bike? I haven't tried to start it yet. There are no leaking fluids, but the chain does seem noisy when rolling (could just be the lack of engine noise). The handlebars seem pretty straight, but that was just a sight look and nothing scientific. I just don't want to be riding along when something snaps.

Thanks in advance for all your help. I'll be driving my car until I can get that rearset plate. Just when I was getting the hang of street riding...

At least no one's seriously hurt...tell your dad to get his own bike next time! ;)

Besides ebay, don't forget to check the for sale boards at SVRider.com and the main SV 650 boards...there are also "wanted" listings there...

Good luck and hope you get back on the road soon!!

The bracket that holds the peg and lever is called a rearset. You can order a new one for like $55 new. Any dealer will have them. I'd check with Chaparral.... They seem to have pretty fair prices.
Might also try Cycle Gear.
