This morning on my ride to work, I am cruising along at around 90-95mph. I look to my right in time to see the motorcycle cop I just blasted past. He pulls into traffic and is rapidly approaching from behind me. He then passes me(in my lane), waves as he goes by and pulls over the car in front of me...... Damn I thought I was in for some shit. It was a 65mph zone, I was doing at least 25 over the posted speed and he decided to pull over the car in front of me.

I knew there was a reason I donated to the Motorcycle Officers Association.......

By law in Calif. you can't go above a speed that is unsafe for the conditions... So in theory the cops could bust you for going the posted speed limit if conditions warranted, like poor visibility.

In practice, you are usually safe to go up to 10mph over. If you noctice on SoCal fwys if you drive the speed limit you get passed by everyone.

I got busted last week for 59 mph in a 35 zone :-( Cop said I was doing atleast 60 but his radar gun locked at 59. 20 mph over is real bad no-no so he cut me some slack and wrote the posted at 40 mph. Traffic School here I come.

(At the vary least I kept my mouth shut. Didn't fess up or give in to the impulse to say, "60? Is that all?")

I thought MSF said 5 mph over the flow of traffic........... could be wrong.

But others have told me the limit is 15 mph........... If this is the case.......... Most people on the freeway goes about 75-80 mph, so if you go about 90-95 mph......... are you speeding?.......hmmm

It's 5 ... legally ... and that's only if the cop decides it is so.
