Since I'm bored cuz bike's broken, I made a few changes to the forums:
- New page number navigation boxes
- Quick reply box
- New view for other user's profile
- Signature aligns to the bottom of post area
- Member number display on the left of each post

Don't forget, as a registered member, you have an option to select among the 5 color styles I've made under "Options (http://www.socalsvriders.com/forums/member.php?s=&action=editoptions)".

Yeah, I know...

BTW more on-topic... I still can't seem to bring myself to use the quick-reply window... I just by nature seem to keep hitting the "post reply" button...

I wonder why that is?

For some reason, I still like the default colors best.

Hey Paul,

I love all the new mods you did to the site. Replying right from the thread is great, and the new nav buttons and everything else is all real cool.

But I found a weird discrepancy in the member numbers. Like right now the front page says our newest member is #353, kcsport. But when you click and go to kcsport's profile, it says their member number is #362. And according to the member list, I'm the 15th person to join, but I'm member #17. Just wondering what's the deal.

I don't think I have OCD, actually, but I do have a tendency to notice small details. I often check out the profile of the "newest member" on the front page to see if it's someone I know, or someone local to me or anything interesting. That's when I noticed that first number mismatch. Then I had been thinking that I signed up on this site pretty quick after it opened, and member #17 was unsatisfyingly high, so I looked at the member list to double check. But thankfully, other than wasting lots of time noticing crap like that, I don't find that I'm compelled to perform any tasks repeatedly or in any particular sequences or anything like that.

I'm guessing here, but I suspect its something like this...

When the board goes to see how many members there are, it does something like 'select count(*) from users' or 'select count(*) from users where active=1'... this gives the actual number of active users...

The database probably generates the member ID and it tracks the next ID even if one got created and deleted... So, there could have been a member number 4 created accidentally, but that account was deleted, even so, the next member will be #5...

So, maybe there were accounts created for testing but never used, maybe there were accounts set inactive, or maybe some poor fool sold his sv and left the board...

Ya you're right, GoldenEternity! There's also some members who haven't replied to the registration confirmation email. Member # doesn't really mean much.. it's just an ID that's sorta correlates to the order in which one had registered.

Yeah, so think of member ID as just kinda a unique ID that vaguely correlates to the order in which you joined the board, but really only matters to the database itself....

Its there to track who posted what, not who joined first or who is cooler than who.

*added a "clue" column to his employee database at work, so he could 'select count(*) where clue=1' and laugh as it returns only one person... me... Muahahahaha... yeah, I was bored.

Thanks for the fine work you've done on the site, Paul, and the continuing evolution is great. You're a great asset within a great resource.

Fixed the Quick Reply box so only logged in users with permission to reply sees it. If you're not logged in, the Quick Reply box won't appear.

Apparently, many forget that they're logged out when posting replies using the Quick Reply box, and the reply gets lost.

Thanks for the suggestion, Slaughter!
