What RPM's do you usually drive around at consistantly?

How many miles can you go with the Gas light on? ( in general)

Do you have any sort of locking device that you take wherever you go?

Do you wave to all bikers you pass?

I never pushed my luck with the SV....I would usually get gas as soon as or before the gas light came on...whatever was more convenient. I also used the Odometer to track my mileage so I went by that more than anything.

I wave to most riders unless it strikes me that waving would be waste of time. Hard to say...I always wave to sportbikers..usually wave to most everyone else...if I see someone who is feeling a little too Harley poserish with that 'Harley' face on and replete with Harley gear...I don't bother waving..or I may do a sample wave to verify that yep, waving is in fact a waste of time. If they're two up I usually wave....but overall, I am usually too busy concentrating to wave....in the canyons I'll generally wave to everyone...Harleys or not.

As for locking device...I favor a Scorpio paging alarm...top of the line. :D

Sometimes I get the feeling that those posery 'tough' Harley types LOVE to get waves from us sportbikers so they can 'practice' ignoring us LOL....helps with the whole Harley tood....so I rarely wave to the really posery-looking types..you know..custom (turnkey) chopper....game face on...silly helmet....etc. etc..

I never NEVER wave to Harley riders, it is a complete waste of effort. Sportbikes, I always wave to them if I can, at least I give them a nod.

BMW'ers are in the same group as Harleys.

I don't have or use any locking devices.

I ride around 6-7K RPM.

I don't test my luck with the low gas light, although I could because when I fill up, I am only getting about 3 gallons

RPM's around 5K to 6K.

I have found that I can get at least 30 more miles when the gas light first comes on. I normally track it by the trip on the odometer.

I don't have any locking device...my SV isn't much to look at and I normally just use it to commute to work and back anyhow. Both my home community and work are in locked areas.

I wave to pretty much all sportbikers unless I don't see them or I'm splitting lanes. Don't really wave to cruisers, but if I'm stopped at a light with them and we look at one another I'll give them a nod.

So far the only people that haven't waved back at me either haven't seen me or are using the clutch, and they nod. That includes people on every kind of bike.

I saw a cruiser at the Jawbone Canyon store that was built on a V-8 engine mounted inline with a shaft drive. That was something else.

I've been shifting at about 6k, and at steady speed I'm at 4-5. However, my bike is geared low and jetted.

1 & 2 dont apply cus the SV is my track bike
3 I have a top box and/or saddle bags on my street bike. Super convenient to lock stuff up. I’ve seen one for the SV. Top boxes ROCK.
4 I wave at everything on two wheels with an engine, including scooters. Most wave back. The scooters sometimes look a bit shocked though :)

1. Around 5-6K

2. Dunno -- afraid to chance it, so I pull into the nearest fuel stop if it comes on.

3. No, but I should.

4. All bikers, even bicyclists. I'm a dork, but a friendly, wave-y dork.

6,000RPM

40-50 miles in theory. Never pushed my luck. Would rather play it safe.

Yup. Lock my bike all the time. Alarm too.

I wave to everyone. And everyone waves back. Lot of folks say the Harley guys don't wave back. Not true. The REAL Harley bikers always wave back. It's the "weekend-rider posers" who don't wave. Everybody hates them. Especially the real Harley bikers!

1: SV1k here, and I have carbon yoshis on, so around town I keep it down only around 4-5k to keep noise down, in the canyons I let it roar up around 10k

2: I've got a good 30 miles after the gas light comes on, reset your trip counter every time you fill up (you have two trip counters, so use one of them to track fuel usage). I get best gas mileage with 87 octane fuel which the SV is supposed to run on.

3: The bike has a scorpio alarm, but I don't expect it to save it, just to give me a heads up if I'm within range, my friend had his 2 week old CBR1k stolen and it was fitted with the same alarm, the thieves thoughtfully left it behind in his parking space.

4: Generally, unless I didn't see them until it's too late or I'm too busy keeping the bike on the road, in which case I'll usually nod. (of course if they're doing something stupid I'll deliberately ignore them).

on the freeway up to 6.5K in top gear in the canyons a bit higher, but in lower gears.

depends how you ride and what kinda mileage you get. supposedly there's one gallon left when it goes on. I've noticed that if i'm pushing it, the light stops blinking and stays on solid. I've never pushed it much passed when it goes solid, i figure it means there's maybe .5 gal left, i dunno though. I go by mileage. one trip odo for each tank of gas and the other everytime I lube the chain.

no locking device except the steering lock and the rear seat. used to use a horeshoe type bike lock through the sprocket around the spoke until I parked in gravel once and when i tried to leave thought the bike was just slipping in the gravel when it was really bending the hell outta that lock.

I wave to all bikers so long as it's safe to do so. If i need both hands they don't get the wave. squids and posers alike at least appreciate two wheelness even if they abuse it.

1. 4-5k, but I've gone down to 3.5 sometimes when I'm just following people.
2. I think the manual says the light comes on with 1.1 gals left in the tank. I've found that to be pretty accurate. I've gone about 25 miles when the light started to come on and subsequently filled the tank around 3.7 gallons.
3. Not really. I park at UCLA which I hope is fairly safe, and people have told me SVs don't get jacked. Perhaps that's naive...
4. On streets yes. On divided freeways no. I pay attention to the 80 mph traffic that may kill me at a moments notice. I encourage riders on the other side of the median to do the same.

yeah, i usually ride around 6500rmps roughly...higher on the street (as opposed to the frwy)

i can usually get around 20 miles with the light on

the only locking device i was using a lot when i parked on a college campus was a cable lock

i wave at everyone on two wheels :D

I take it you haven't been riding in socal much then. practically no one out here waves. I've ridden a lot in texas and everyone waves, new orleans most people wave. socal no one waves (in/near LA at least). I think we're all too worried about surviving the traffic to find time to wave.

I use a disk lock on rear wheel .
and I wave at all and usually get a response from all if they see me. Harley, bmw or other...I also have a naked bike which looks more like a Db and less sportbike..may make the differnce..
