how much slack should the lines have when the bars are turned all the way to the right? mine have very little to none is that correct?

No, they should have quite a bit of slack.

i am doing a fe swap with a 05 gsxr 600 fe. do i need special lines or will the kit from the gsxr work. seems like the gsxr kit should work. does galfer ever ship the wrong length lines? it seemed like there should be way more slack. Thanks kurt.

Mine also have very little slack - they are not binding, but no extra length either. What is the downside if there is not enough slack. I don't notice any problem with braking, but of course I'm not on a track, just normal street riding. Any rule of thumb on how much slack you should have, i.e. the same amount as on a stock bike on the showroom floor? Thanks for any feedback.

just talked to galfer and they said no big deal to have it with little slack. he said as long as the lines allow all the way to the stop no big deal. please let me know if anyone thinks otherwise. thanks.

Oh, yeah, if you can turn the wheel lock to lock, then you're fine.

it would be a good idea for them also to allow full extention of the forks......you'll never of course need them to fully extend (WHEELIE TIME!!!:D ) but it's always a good idea to cover your bases.

650s lines or GSXR lines should work.
I'm running the GSXR lines, the 650s are a tad bit longer.

It is very possible also that the wrong lines came with your kit. I bought a galfer kit and it came with the wrong banjo bolts. I got fine threads where I needed coarse threads. I went to their factory in Oxnard and stood in their lobby with my master cylinder and the kit I bought and after much deliberation they finally figured out they gave me the wrong bolts and gave me new ones. They probably hate me now for doing that but hey it worked. I hear that kit mixups are very common with them, so I would measure the lines and check to see if they are the ones that are supposed to come with the kit...email them or something.

Before I left the factory I had mentioned that I hear of tons of kit mixups and such and either the info from the retailers is not getting to them or that Galfer is just tossing that data away and not correcting their mistakes. They said they were going to have a talk with their product manager(s) and see if there were any fixes...good to know that they're still messing up.

I had to exchange my kit, the lines were way too short..... Also check the lines with the forks fully extended, if they are too short they could be torn apart after hitting a bump . Here was my post. (http://www.socalsvriders.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=158767#post158767)

i have related issue:
I had some Goodridge ss lines installed a while back. I didn't notice till a long time later how tight the rear line was. It's tight enough where it will impede chain tensioning. If i want to slide my rear wheel and caliper back to tighten my chain, the slack (or lack of it) in the brake line will prevent me from being able to do so.
Can anyone with a successful rear line installation on an 03 sv650s give me a measurement of how long the line should be to allow for chain tightening as well?
Also, i have rearsets. Could that be the potential culprit of the tight fit?
