Paul,
I can't seem to add photos to the album for "maintenance day"... I select the photo, and the window saying it's being uploaded comes up, and then never goes away... What am I doing wrong?

is it possible the picture is too big so it takes a long time?

The pics are 800K, which is a bit big, I know, but I've got a cable modem at home, and it still doesn't help. When I tried only uploading one at a time, somehow it went through (hence how there's a pic there now), but at the same time, that box never disappeared...

Try not to upload more than 5 pics at a time. The box won't go away, instead it'll read "Adding pics... Resizing pics..." after the "Uploading..." screen.

Do resize the pics to a maximum of 1024x768 (or even 640x480... it's just for web display, nobody's gonna print them out i think) though, and optimize it with jpeg compression of less than 60/100 to minimize file size/upload time. Cable modem's upstream leaves a lot to be desired...

Huh? How do I resize pics? I just recently... uhh... acquired Photoshop 6... But I don't really know how to use it...

A quick primer on Photoshop would be helpful :D

Photoshop 6 comes with ImageReady (i think...). Anyways, you can either use ImageReady, or under "File, Save for Web..." and select the compression/file format/color depth as well as image size. Or you can resize it under "Image, Image size..." Further, you can "record" the steps you've taken and apply it to entire directories of images with the "Window, Actions" controls.

If you're using Windows XP, download Powertoys (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp), which has a very handy "right click, resize photos" option that works on entire directories. I'm sure there are other tools that can do batch resizing/operations, but none as "built-in".

Cool, hopefully I'll be home before next week, and I'll try to get those uploaded...

Have you thought about changing the max # of photos to add to 5, if people are seeing problems with it?

Gallery software was updated today. Let me know if there are any problems.

Oh, the "Photos by" description defaults to using your username if no description was specified.
