Anyone a part of this series? I'm seriously considering race prepping my SV, but I just stumbled across this searching track days on this forum and I found CMRRA http://www.racecmrra.com/ and it looks frickin awesome. As someone mentioned in that thread, it's a lot cheaper- one set of tires for the season and a typical crash costs $50. Not only that, but I think my learning curve will be heightened learning to race on a 50 as opposed to a SV. After all, even Rossi started on a 50!

Anyway, does anyone currently do this now? I'd like to get the skinny on this kind of racing. I get the feeling I'd really get into it.

I raced CMRRA for a while. Had a blast. It's an AWESOME way to improve your skills. The consequences are minimal in a crash which means you can push the bike harder than you would your big bike. In races at streets of willow I regularly had to put a knee down in the last turn b4 the straight because the back wheel was sliding and I needed the knee to help push the bike up. There's no way in hell I'd intentionally push the big bike that hard. I am very very glad I did it.

With that said I no longer do it anymore. Yes a set of tires will last a season but you have to pay membership dues to the cmrra, entrance fees for every class you race as well as practice fees, track entrance fees ect. With three forms of bikes competing for my attention (cmrra/dirt/street) I decided that cmrra would be the one to go.

I raced CMRRA for a few years. Itg's alot of fun and great people there too. Even raced one of the Goberts on 60cc bikes and Jeremy Toye came out once too. It's a great way to improve your skills. And not too expensive either.

Check out this thread: http://www.socalsvriders.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=13083&highlight=25+track+day

Also, I plan to do this as soon as I sell my car and buy another (cheaper) car. Can't wait...
