Has anyone attempted or looked into converting a 650 cable system over to a 1000 fluid system?

Great idea...I just came to the SV from a VFR (an 18 year old VFR) and one of the first things I noticed on the SV that did not measure up to the VFR was the clutch feel.

Sorta not related but to the same extent has anyone gone and installed a slipper clutch?

I guess grass really is greener on the other side. :)

One of my bikes has a hydraulic clutch on it and if it wasn't for expensive conversion kits, I'd have stuck a mechanical system on it long ago. I don't know why anyone would want the extra hassle of dealing with fluids.

If you do find a way go with a ss clutch line never need replacing.

You actually get better feel and control with a mechanical clutch...

..all (or maybe most...I don't actually know this for a fact) race bikes have a mechanical clutch. It's a common conversion for RC51s to convert to mechanical for track duty.

..of course for street use...it's nice not having to replace the clutch cable...though it's like every 30K and a 15 minute job on the SV.

I'd have to agree with most folks here... you don't want the hydro. clutch at all. I did the conversion from Hyrdo. to cable on my SV1k, and It's one of the best things I've done for the bike. The slave cylinders are infamous for developing leaks, the feel (and engagement point) on the hyrdaulic unit is vague at best, and the periodic fluid change/bleed is a a pain.

Stick with the cable sir... it is the better way to go. IMO, of course ;)

Lubricate your cable with Tri-Flow (Teflon) lubricant, and the throttle cables and brake/gear levers while you are at it.
You'll never look back...
