I originally came up with the idea because I thought it would be pretty neat to match the frame of the new K5's.
I took a leap of faith and used my Scorpion Stainless Steel highmount as the guinea pig.
I made this DIY in response to: http://www.socalsvriders.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17516
Materials Needed:
220 Grit Wetsandpaper
Duplicolor High Temp 1200F Black paint
Duplicolor High Temp 500C Grey primer
Water source (a hose...)
Kerosene (you should have this already to clean your chain... tsk tsk)
Clean Rags
Coat hanger (or equivalent to hang and paint your pipe/can)
Tools to remove your exhaust
I highly recommend rubber gloves and a painter's mask during the whole procedure.
I am not responsible for any damage or injury caused by this guide. You assume all risks, physical and mental, while attempting/performing this modification
REMEMBER!!!! The key to painting is LIGHT, EVEN coats. Even if you miss a spot the first time around, don't worry, you can get it the 2nd or 3rd time you spray. Heavy spray painting only leads to bubbles, cracks, dripping, and other ugly-ass features of a novice painter ;) So... keep the can moving at all times!

1. Prepping is the most important step! So use kerosene and the rags to clean off any gas, oil, boot prints, dead animals, etc. off your can and pipe.
2. Wet the sandpaper.
3. Sand that sucker down until you have a nice "rough" surface to stick your primer to. Don't rough it down too much, just enough to leave a "haze."
4. Clean the sandpaper and metal shavings off with water.
5. Clean the metal again with kerosene. Allow to air dry.
6. Bend your coat hanger, insert into can/pipe, and suspend it from a rafter, chair, etc.
7. Shake and prep the primer as indicated.
8. Apply primer in LIGHT, EVEN coats.

9. Wait 10 minutes to dry, then apply an additional coat.
10. One more coat of primer using the same steps.

(I used a heat gun to speed up the process, bakes the paint/primer real fast.)
11. Allow the primer to dry an additional 10-20 minutes.
12. Shake and prep the black paint.
13. Apply the same way as you did the primer.

(DO NOT wait more than 1 hour between coats... paint will bubble and crack if you do so.)
14. Dry for 24 hours in a humid-free area or bake in an oven at 450F for 1.5-2 hours.

15. Move onto the next pipe/can!
16. Install the following day when the paint is cured (use the back of your hand to touch the paint first! Then when safe, handle it with your hands). Paint will fully cure in 1 week time.
