Ok, ive been scanning through the fork conversions thread and got half way through the 50 some od pages and got sick of looking for anyone doing the conversion to a 1k, so here it is.
I got about 10k on my bike and the fork seals are leaking badly. Im goin to call and see how much it will be to have the seals and the oil replaced. I dont think it should be too much, but i also thought it would be nice to do a little upgrade all around and swap in forks off a gsxr.
Im not sure what aspects of the swap to the 650 transfer to the 1000. Does the extra weight of the 1k mean i need to only use certain forks? What modifications do i need to do to the head set bearings or races?? How will this effect the ride hight of the bike??
Basicly what i need to know is how does the swap differ between a SV 650 and my 03' SV1000??
Sorry if im rehashing a subject thats been beaten to death, but i could only stand scrolling through sooo much and i couldnt get a narrow enough search. Thanks for the info in advance.

You already have gsxr forks on a sv1000. Just get them set up proprly. I had to do springs and oil for my weight now they work great.

01+ 1000 Forks
00+ 750 Forks
Both bolt right on. Uses stock head bearings.
The 600 forks will work too, but the sv1000 basically has a version of older 600 forks on it.
As for wheels and brakes, I'm not sure, but I think they bolt onto the GSXR forks, you'd have to verify that one.

You don't want Busa forks.
Best bet is a set of inverted showa forks.
00+ 750, and 04+ 600

careful with your swap, if this is just for expense you are better off just replacing your seals. To get your stock forks working right you will need springs and full valving, compression and rebound.
the SV1000 forks are NOT gsxr forks.
to do a gsxr fork swap you will need forks with triples, clip ons, fender, and 320 rotors. the only things you can reuse is the wheel itself, brake calipers and axle. The gsxr triples will bolt on though, straight swap.
the SV1k has 310 rotors, which is why the brakes won't line up unless you use the 320 rotors.
the years are right,
00-on gsxr 750
01-04 gsxr 1000
04-on gsxr 600
the 750 and 600 forks are the better coice over the 1000.
....and the SV1k fork tubes are 1mm larger than the conventional gsxr 600 forks 01-03, so you can not just slide a set of fork tubes into your triple clamps. that would be too easy.

I thought they were very similair to older model GSXR 600 forks?

Similar in that they are both conventional, both silver, both go up and down. that's about it.
SV1k are 1mm larger in diameter.
internals are all different, kind of a mix of showa and kayaba type internals.
brake caliper perches are in different locations.
the SV1k forks work OK with just the spring and oil changed, but work very well fully worked, but that will cost about a grand in parts and labor. I raced on a set of fully worked forks and they were as perfect as they could have been, ask bloodclot he is riding it now.
gixxer forks are better though.

Waste of money to put on gsxr forks. If your going to race sure but other wise rework what you got it's a hell of a lot better than what comes on the 650.

You know, maybe the key or answer to the GSXR front end swap is to also swap the frame and the engine out as well as many other components and have well..... A GSXR of any size:D
