This looks like a cross between my dream Norton, and my beloved SV......
Oooh...very cool. Interesting to see what an SV looks like with wire spoke wheels.

Somebody did a really nice job with that bike -- the spoked wheels, reverse megaphone exhaust, polished frame -- schweet.
As far as a Norton being your dream bike, my 750 Commando was a nightmare; cracked 2nd gear twice  They are beautiful and not all are so screwed up as mine was (previous owner probably beat the crap out of it).
enjoy,

That's a beauty. I'd love to hear those pipes. Where did you find her?

Looks nice, but I'm no fan of spoked wheels... And I'll bet that the sound from the reverse cone megaphone would break an eardrum. They don't call them "megaphones" for nothing. Nice, but loud. :) I notice that it has a braided SS radiator hose. Maybe I'll have to go up to Freight Liquidators (Earl's) and see if they have anything that size.

I have always wondered how the SV would look as a Cafe Racer. A few journalists have refered to the SV as a modern cafe racer. All it needs is a little fairing.
Reminds me of the new Vincent.

it woudl look like mine, kurts, and all the others with the small windscreen, or the tagra 1/4 fairing. i think it comes out pretty nice, especially with the clubmans like kurt has, thats OG.

Yo,
Sweet bike.
I've heard the term "cafe racer" before but I'm not quite sure what it means. So what the hell does it mean?

Back in the UK, when the term "sportbike" was just a twinkle in some unborn Japanese designers eye, they used to race from cafe to cafe. They'd pick two that were 20-30 miles apart, and after getting coffee at one, they'd all hop on their bikes to run at high speeds to the next one... They took old bikes like Nortons, Triumphs and the like, much lighter/more nimble bikes than the Harleys and Victorys of the American market, and a precurser to our current "standards".
They call the SV650 a modern cafe racer because it's a moderately priced, nimble, light, naked bike that you can just hop on and blast to from cafe to cafe... It embodies a lot of the spirit of what those bikes were, and thus the name...
At least, that's my take on things... I know I'm about 85% factually accurate on this, but you might want to ask someone from the board who was alive back in those days...

But, what I (perhaps mistakenly) refer to as a "Cafe Fairing" is the precursor to modern plastics. Not too different from the TLS, SVS, Falco, and (ugly) V11. Something like this:

This is an actual production bike made in China (or was it Korea?) SVrider.com had this in one of their threads last year.
...they used to race from cafe to cafe.
You're right about where the name comes from. The bikes were basically the British version of the American chopper (or maybe the other way around) as the term was originally coined. Choppers were so named because they "chopped" off everything that didn't make the bike go fast or turn. Lights and mirrors went and breaks were optional. The ridiculously raked front ends and sissy bars came later. Check out The Ace Cafe (http://www.ace-cafe-london.com/), also, take a look at the Enfield Clubman (http://www.enfieldmotorcycles.com/custom_clubman.html).

ok, probibly a lost cause, since this is at least 3 degrees of seperation from the original, but I dont suppose anyone here knows anything about this one do they? Because I HAVE to find out about that exhaust!
