Hey gang,
I work at DivX and we've got this new groovy browser plugin. Streaming DivX via the browswer is finally here.

Best of all, its for awesome!

I used to own/run a video website that streamed videos (the 1.8 terabytes per month killed me lol), so I'm a "bit" familiar with this kinda stuff..

But whats the diff between streaming a DivX vid (as in your case in the other thread) of an avi file..versus doing it with say... WMV as the default player? or QT..etc..

my concern would be the exploits found in DivX stuff. is this...since it's being streamed , a concern with this since it's not being saved to disk and autoscanned?

(and yes, the DivX you made works fine for me :))

Actually, its technically not streaming, its downloading and it can be played back progressively. So you are saving it to your local drive but the way the container works is you can play it back while its downloading. Big difference is quality and size. You can have a high quality file without the high quality size. Our compression makes the file small with loosing minimal quality. Granted, it can be encoded incorrectly and it can still look bad if not done right. (We've got HD clips on the site you can download and progressively playback, pretty cool)

Not sure what exploits in the DivX stuff, I'd definitely like to know more if you know of any.

Jason is there a sink problem when fast forwarding to a certain part of the stream??? music stops playing when I try to forward the stream ahead.. Great video quality and sound by the way, love the plug in :)
