View Full Version : 06 SV1000 high fuel usage
I have an 06 SV1000 and im getting very bad fuel consumption about 10 liters per 100 km twice as much as it should be. I'v done about 2500 km. Does anyone have the same problem or know whats wrong. Any help appreciated thanks.

It's all in the wrist...

how many miles(KM) do you have on your bike? your fuel mileage should improve as the engine breaks in...but it's up to you and how hard you twist the throttle. if it continues to be a problem take it back to the dealer to see if it's something mechanical that is covered under the warranty
My mileage sucks too... even if I behave. Other sv1K'ers have bemoaned the same problem.
Maybe its part of the beast?
If you do learn something, post it up, please!

10L/100km ~ 2.5 gal/60 mi => 24 mpg. Ouch.

bigger cylinders require more juice to go..will not get as good millage as the 650 but sounds like it is still breaking in a bit..idle could be a little high...FI could be off a bit, the map could be wong..is the bike still stock and yes how hard are you twisting the grip....

oh my friend who has the 1k was telling me how he didnt get as good of a gas mileage as he thought he would get, but i think he said he got about 35mpg...so maybe it's just the beefiness of the 1000?

On my 1K I get in the mid 40's mpg Light usualy comes on between 130 and 150 depending on my driving. I would first check the tb's but something must be wrong.
Dosn't matter how much or little I twist the wrist the fuel consumption remains the same. I do a lot of stop start city riding which could be contributing to the problem. A friend however has an 05 K1 and he got 6l/100km from the first day (sorry about the metric figures). Thanks for the suggestions, ill ride until i reach 5000km, if the problem remains ill hit up the dealer. Although at $1.20 Australian / litre it will have to be sooner than later.

I have the same problem... I get about MAYBE 80-90 per tank.
The most I've EVER gotten out of a tank on my 650s is 125.
I've even tried to ride slow and keep it a gear or 2 high to conserve gas and I STILL get shitty mileage.

My 05 1k gets about 110miles before the light comes on. If I twist a little more around 90.

84 miles on a tank full at Calif Speedway I didnt think was bad considering the 2 long full throttle straights, Also desnorked ,K&N and the Jardines on the Ol 1000S:rolleyes: didnt help Im sure.

When I 1st got my SV1000 while just cruising around in high gear at around 55 to 60mph I was consistantly getting just over 50 mpg with the fuel light coming on between 160 and 170mile. Lately however, riding with faster folks and keeping the revs much higher I am getting about 135 before the light comes on which equates to close to 40mpg.

I'm guessing you're probably filling up on premium, higher octane gets worse gas mileage unless the engine is designed for it, use the 87 your bike was designed for.
Puttering around town in 1st and 2nd will also give you much less gas mileage than riding on the freeway in 6th.
When I use my bike to get to work and back (never over 3rd gear), I'm lucky if I see 80 miles before the fuel light comes on.

My 650 once got 53mpg on a lazy trip back into Redding along Hwy299 from the coast. That was 10k miles ago.
Any more, I rarely see better than 36 mpg, even cruising along on the freeway. It's 180 miles from my apt. to my parent's house; I've always got to fill up the tank part of the way there.
Maybe the throttle bodies are out of sync. I made of the tools to balance them, but haven't gotten to it yet.

Doing mostly commuting...mostly city with a short freeway blast...I get around 80-90 miles before the light. Thought it might be the PCIII needs to be remapped. Mileage IS an issue, but damn, is it FUN!
