View Full Version : Givi luggage solution

I been thinking about possible luggage solutions and I stumbed upon a pretty good idea that I saw on an R1. Basically, she (a very fine lookin' lady I might add) took one of those V46 Givi luggages (like seen here http://store.azmusa.com/v46mocaflbll.html) and had mounted it where the passenger seat was. I'm not sure how she did it b/c she mentioned someone else helped her out, but I imagined it involved making a mounting bracket out of a seat cowl or something like that.
I like the idea b/c it doesn't lengthen the overall bike or add much bulk on the sides, and promises to add a bit of carrying capacity. I'm not a big fan of the tank bags and my shoulders/neck are starting to cramp from carrying weight between home and school.
The question I'm posing is: has anybody tried this? I'm not sure of the anatomy of a seat cowl, so I'm not sure how practical making a mount out of it is. Anybody like to comment on a better idea?

I found something like what you want, on an SV at www.wrenchwhore.com --> projects --> 1999 sv650.
It'n on a regular seat, not a cowl. I think the seat would be more sturdy, I'd be afraid of the cowl cracking.

I don't know if you are set on a hard case, but a soft bag that mounts in place of the rear seat is made by Luggage Locker.
www.luggagelocker.com It comes in a couple sizes, has a base that attaches in place of the seat, and if I remember you can detach it from the base.
I know you said you weren't a fan of tank bags, but not why. They also make an interesting tankbag, solidly attached but doesn't touch the paint.
Check it out, they may do what you want.

I guess I figure that if I'm gonna plunk down money for luggage, I might as well do it right. Luggage locker has the right idea, but their elite bag (the large one) holds about 1800 cu in of space. The Givi V46 holds more like 4600 cu in and has the capacity for a brake light, which would be nice since I ride at night.
Wrenchwhore's project looks pretty solid. Thanks for that link.

I see the adapter plate, but it looks like they don't make the actual top rack for the 650. Or were you suggesting to use the adapter and mount it to something that locks into the passenger seat?
