I just got back from riding all the way down from fontucky and i noticed a knocking noise everytime i would take off from a stop. I hear about 2-3 knocks which seem to be coming from under the tank. I know its not the chain tensionor thingy because that sounds different. So my question is, What the hell is that?!? Its really bugging me since i don't want to be messing up my engine. And it only does it when i take off, not when i rev or change to a different gear. My bike has about 19k miles on it. Could it be something to do with my valve adjustment? I haven't gone in for that service yet so im wondering if that could be it. Help! thx

I don't see how that would help... please explain. I am due for a new chain a sprocket.

i think it was my chain tensior...the chain was too tight so i took a tooth brush and kerosene to the chain..lubed it really good and loosened it..seemed to work, u might want to check your sprocket and chain as well..if you have to adjust your chain every few days like i did..yep time to change it :D

What octane fuel are you using? 87? Knocking and pinging? Try 92 octane. :dunno:

I had somethiing like that when my chain was hella due. Uneven chain stretch...some places it was stretched more than others...found out the knocking noise was when the chain would resettle onto the rear sprocket in between "long" sections of the chain. In any case...it may be time for new chain/sprocket. See if that fixes it.

Ill try the chain. I know i have some tight and loose spots so its a must. Does anyone know how much the stock setup would cost? chain, and both sprockets.

Check out Calsportbike.com. When it came time for me to get a new chain and sprockets I went to a 520 conversion and dropped 2 teeth on the rear for quicker acceleration.

You can get an AFAM conversion kit with DID Gold chain for $149.95.

Yeah and that plus jets plus pipe plus filter makes your bike scary torquey...

Its your chain man!

check your chain, seriously... I had the same problem and it was just due to a loose chain.

Also, check how your chain and front sprocket are meshing, that could be the problem.

EDIT: Guess I should have read all the replys before I posted - yeah! do what everyone else says! check your chain :)
