Not sure where I'd want to ride, but I'd like to.
Angeles Crest or GMR?
I'm somewhat interested in Angeles Crest just because it's something new for me ... but requirement is that NAT can go ...

I should be able to make either Angeles Crest or GMR... If we do GMR, I can show you guys up Glendora Ridge Rd, which heads over to Mt. Baldy (check the pashnit site for a writeup on GRR)...
Hmm, GRR, sounds like a fun road :)

What day would we be looking at? I'd like to ride GMR since I've never been..... Let me know.
I'd like to ride either road, I'm new to SO-cal and looking to explore the twisties down here. I'm a fairly new rider (1600 miles) and I'd love to ride with some more experienced people.
just lemmie know where and when!!

How bout we do The Crest or GMR on Saturday and then Ortega on Sunday? I was really enjoying Ortega this past weekend and would like to see some of you peeps down this way. I will be riding Ortega either way, it'd just be cool to have some company.

I can't ride Saturday. I'm going down to San Diego to ride (if anyone is interested in joining, they are welcome ... nothing specific is planned yet ... there's three of us thus far) ... I'm actually heading down Friday ...
SUnday I'm up for whatever, tho' I'm not really that interested in Ortega TBH ... (tired of traffic) ...

Hey Gregg, I could probably find my way up to Ortega on Saturday and then maybe do my first run on GMR or the Crest on Sunday.
I've been using my bike as a commuter for the last couple of weeks (after the car accident) so I haven't had much desire to get out and test the twisties.

Want to ride up to Julian on 79 then back to I-8 through Sunrise Hwy on Saturday?

I'll do the Crest or GMR this weekend. Lemme know when & where.:squid:
Leigh, let me know what you guys end up deciding for SD on Saturday. I'd probably end up tagging along what ever the plans are..... As for Sunday I will most likely(unless someone can talk me out of it.....GMR?) be riding Ortega. I think Paul will be up there as well. Of course Rod will be there.
I don't think I'd be up for the Crest this weekend. It makes for a very very long day, a little longer than I could deal with if I am going to ride Sat & Sun...... Maybe GMR though, never been, I'd like to check it out.

I'll be up for GMR if I don't have to work this Saturday, don't know yet.
As for Ortega...... Dude, Gregg........ we gotta go up there earlier!!!..... for the following reasons:
1) A hell of a lot less traffic.
2) A hell of a lot less squids.
3) Cooler temp.......... aaahhhhhh
And when I say early, I'm talkin around 8:00 am......... the agony
:D

8am @ Ortega has far too much traffic for me. I've not really had a lot of fun there unless I go around 6.30am.
GMR sunday sounds good to me... I can send out invites to the peeps I'm going to San Diego with.
I really wish I had my cellphone working ... :( grrr.
I will talk to the guys I'm heading down there with, and figure out a plan for Saturday ...
I know a bunch of people down there, that I'm trying to round up as well.
As far as riding the 76, sounds good ... I'm not sure what time the traffic is best, but I'm guessing I won't want to start too early. I am pretty sure I'm going to have a passenger unfortunately, so that'll slow me down a bit ...

GMR sunday sounds like fun... Here's some directions...
Find your way to the 210 (East from the 605, West from the 57 N). If you're heading east, get off at Lone Hill (2-3 exits AFTER Grand Ave, it's not signed well but it's right after the 210 splits off heading south. At Lone Hill, take a left. If you're heading west on the 210, get off at Auto Ctr Dr, take a left off the exit, and then a right onto Lone Hill. Either way, you're going to end up heading north on Lone Hill Ave.
At Lone Hill Ave & Route 66, there's a Mobil gas station (NW corner). What do you say we meet there at about 9:30.
We can do GMR->GRR, turn around on GRR when we get to Mt. Baldy (heading down that is no fun :( ), head back to GMR but go down the east fork, and then we'll be at San Gabriel Cyn Rd (Hwy 39), which we can take North to explore, or south back to Sierra Madre ave (which some of you know)
Sound like a plan?
Brad
alright 9:30 @ the gas station, I'll be there. I'll also keep checking in in case of any changes.
later,

I'm not sure when I'll get to GMR on Sunday, I"m gonna try to bring some peeps ... and I may just opt to go to Diedrichs on Beach and see if others are going or not ... (the old crew) ...

Leigh,
Let me know the time, if 9:30 is going to be too early for ya. And I'll be heading up there today to, uh, scout it out :)
Brad
(might have to trade bikes with a Harley rider today, since he's thinking about buying a sportbike...)

I'll try to make it, actually have a free sunday this weekend. How's the ride on the GMR, I just got my SVS, still getting used to the curves, not totally comfortable yet, but getting there.

I did GMR today with my fiancee's uncle (too bad he was on a Harley)... For those of you who have ridden the Crest, it's a lot slower and tighter than the Crest... Beautiful ride though, decent pavement, and very few autos (at least on the weekdays, although I saw one guy in a VW haulin' up it today)...
Unfortunately a shorter ride than the Crest, but there are some fun routes off GMR that we can try... Get a couple good hours in :)

I was thinking 10am.

Fri 6/21/02, 11:14AM
I'm going to meet up w/Nat to get breakfast, a little bit earlier ... there's a Denny's off the 210, GRAND AVE. EXIT ... it's across the street from the gas station I usually go to.
If anyone wants to join ... feel free. :)
I'll probably have 3 or 4 peeps riding w/me from my place ... I don't want to get up super early, so I'm thinking to meet up @ denny's around 9 or 9.30am or so ... but that would mean missing the meeting time @ the gas station ...
bwarbiany
Fri 6/21/02, 11:35AM
We can meet @ Denny's, and then head over to the gas station about 10 or so... Should we say 9 AM at Denny's, and 10-10:15 at gas station? Sound good for everyone?

In what area is the Dennys located? Is it near the Crest?

I was thinking of going, but I'm at about 600 miles now, Mike's going to help me do my service sunday night, how far are you guys planning on riding, I don't want to go too far over the 600 miles before changing my oil. What do you guys think?
Burst
Fri 6/21/02, 11:44AM
Don't ever go over your mileage for service. Especially the initial oil change. After the motor "breaks in", it leaves quite a bit of metal shavings and such in the oil. Much more than usual. That is one oil change you do not want to put off. That and the fact that it gives the dealer a reason to back out of doing any warranty work.

Burst, thanks for the info, you guys have fun!

Gregg,
The Denny's is off the Grand Ave exit. This is about 2-3 miles or so WEST of where the road split off for you on the way back from the Crest. So if you took the reverse of the route you took home from there, it's about 30-35 min before you'd hit the Crest on the 210. For other people (like the Redondo folks), You'd want to 105 E->605 N->210 E...
Brad
9 AM okay for everyone?
ersigh
Fri 6/21/02, 6:11PM
Do your oil change tomorrow. IT'S SUPER EASY ... no reason you can't go Sunday. I did my oil change myself @ 300 and @ 600 ... (well i had help getting the filter off) ...
Meeting time sounds good ... I've got peeps meeting me here @ my house around 8.15am or 8.30am.
Anyone in my area is welcome to join. We will be riding over to the 57 and then to the 210.
Denny's is off the 210, in the Glendora area ... take the Grand Ave. exit ...

 I'm so bummed. Sony & TBS finally came to an agreement about season 4 for our show. Took em long enough. Anyway, it looks like we have to move our show to another location.
Next Week!!!
Thanks for the advance notice guys. Needless to say, I have a lot of work to do this weekend to get things ready for moving next weekend and won't be able to get together.
Damn! Funny how I finally get you guys up here 2 times in a row (after bitching that nobody wanted to try my rides out) and both times I couldn't do it.
@!#$@?%*?!
I'll definetly join in. I'll probably wait to meet up at the gas station. can't wait to get in a big old ride!

I stated "Mike" did I not?
I don't think any heterosexual male would say eww to a woman being nikkid.............. unless she is 250lbs+............. is over 80.......... and is balding.
:D

Mon 6/24/02, 10:40AM
So I've got another 80lbs to go before I'll get the "ewww"???
SWEET!! I can STOP WORRYING RIGHT NOW!!
lol
I'm just glad none of us got passed by the guy on rollerblades!!!!

Mon 6/24/02, 11:20AM
hahahahaha ...
LOL LOL
:D :D :D
(totally laughing)
he was moving pretty fast. lol
To get passed by a guy on roller blades would probably permanently destroy any self confidence i may have had or had any chance of gaining. It was bad enough watching him fly around that corner right on that guys ass......
ersigh
Mon 6/24/02, 2:53PM
well that corner wasn't exactly the best corner to go fast on ...
my friend was telling me a story about riding thru canyons on his vespa and he passed a ducati on the inside of a corner. the ducati rider was in a full lean being super sporty, and his vespa just flew past him ... the ducati guy was pretty pissed off (they all ended up stopping @ the same gas station) ...
lol.
there are some guys who seem like they can't stand being behind me, cuz' i'm a girl ... as if it affects their self esteem that im' faster than them ...
to them, i say "waaa".
