Why do some track days require you to replace the coolant with Engine Ice or some other liquid besides the ethlyene glycol based coolant?
Any AZ riders here ever do a Team Arizona track day? There's one on the first weekend of Feb and I want to do it but am wondering if they really check the coolant. I guess it's not a big deal to change it, but don't want to if it's not necessary.
What the heck is Engine Ice anyway? How is it different (besides the obvious that the ingredients are probably different)? Thx!

use water wetter, I run it in both my bikes full time and have never had any issues with it...
they make you replace the coolant because it is MUCH easier to clean up after a crash, it cools your bike better, and should you pop a radiator hose or something while out on the track, it isn't as slick as regular anti-freeze.
btw.engine ice is slippery and not legal in some race organizations.

Henry,
Team AZ does require non-antifreeze. Check out their websites it lists the brands you are permitted to use. They don't physically check your fluids, but they ask what you are running. AZTrackday lets you run ANTI-freeze?
Engine Ice is controversial because it still is a little slippery and harder to clean up off the tarmac. You are permitted to run Engine Ice at Team Arizona trackday, says so right on their website. You can buy Engine Ice at Cycle Gear or one of the AZmotorsports shops. They also sell Water Wetter and other products as well.
See you on the 5th. Look for the yellow SVS, I'll pit with the 911 police race bike.

I used Water Wetter™ for it's crash-friendly properties in my SVS..which I ended up crashing at Fontana. If my bike did leak at least there wasn't slippery coolant everywhere...go Water Wetter! Good stuff.

Mr. Burst :D
How many miles have you been running water wetter + dis.H2O? I run the same in my car fulltime but have been nervous about doing so to my bike...

I ran water wetter in my old 929 with a very built motor for a rear on the street/track with no problems at all.
You definitely should NOT run anti-freeze at the track. Yeah, they don't really check for it and you can sneak it by, but if you crash and make the track slick you have screwed up a lot of paying riders' track day.

I believe WSMC's policy is you will be fined for running antifreeze, not to mention what the other racers might do to ya if lube up the track:D

Unfortunately, I don't think I can make it to the trackday on the 5th. It's all booked up! I called yesterday and I was the 2nd person on the wait list. There was room in the race group (White? group), but they won't let me ride in that group (for obvious reasons). I'm going to call again next week to see if there any cancellations.
Thanks for all the responses. I'm going to switch out the coolant this weekend.

Yeah, well, whatever we'd do, lube wouldn't be involved.

They don't ask or check.
