View Full Version : Lower Fairings or Chin Spoiler

Sometime in the future, I will probably get the itch again to seek out something mostly useless (cosmetic that is). Although a chin spoiler or fairing helps to protect the exposed oil filter.

Anyhow, my bike is a 2003 Copper Color SV650S. No mods.

Give me your opinions on what looks best on this bike with this color... chin spoiler or lower fairings.

Thanks.

The arizona motorsports site (called ride-now) "store.azmusa.com" seems to have the lowest price at about $381. They don't stock the parts and would have to get them shipped to them and then shipped to you. Probably a 14 day total voyage to your door. They didn't seem too knowledgeable about the parts - but I guess you can't expect that from people who are just moving lots and lots of products over the internet for all sorts of bikes. The part number is the correct one though - so it must be the standard OEM fairing kit same as anyone else sells. I just can't imagine how they can sell so much lower than anyone else. I confirmed the price with them - so unless something is wrong, there must be a huge margin on these parts when sold by others for higher prices.

The other possibiliy is "Oneida Sukuzi." They are a Suzuki dealer in New York with an internet store. They know alot about the parts of course and seem to have alot of them in stock. The have the same parts for $435. Sounds like shipping would be about 7 days total. This is the lower-middle price I found. Could not find anyone else in this price range. Of couse they are a few bucks more expensive than ride-now, but seems like a little more "connected" to the Suzuki world.

Other than that, it seems that everyone else charges upwards of $467+ for the same kit. I have seen them as high as $567 or something like that. I think that the dealer near me wanted something similar (around $600 without installation).

I see paying up the $435 for the parts - not a penny more.

Ive been debating about this too..the only thing that is stopping me from getting the chin spoiler is the cost...it seems you pay way more than the amount of plastic you get in respect to the OEM full fairings..i may get the JMV one because it doesnt expose the botton of the midpipe that much

i don't get why the lower fairings are so damn expensive, they are just pieces of plastic.

I know i know, supply and demand, suzuki knows people will pay that price for those.

the price is the only thing that is holding me back from getting them.

Well, I got my lower fairings at last. The were proper Suzuki ones with all the fixin's (no biscuits or gravy though). They cost $398.14 shipped from www.ridenow.com. They did take about 3 weeks to arrive which was like pulling teeth. Now they're on it was worth the wait.

pAint - sweet man, I dig it. I'm looking for the chin spoiler in copper for the 650 -- the one from the 1k doesn't fit the 650 apparently... and as I'm sure you know, copper parts are hard to find. The lower fairing isn't an option for me cuz my girl is NEKKID. :D

I can't seem to find that copper chin spoiler for the 650 anywhere. On ebay I found a couple from individuals, but they were only for the 1k, so it won't work. :(

I had the lower fairings done and I love it. Either way the chin and full are a cosmetic mod. Have fun with it. Anyways got my fairing from Oneadasuzuki.com

Nice pics. But can you use frame sliders with the fairing? And does it help protect your legs from the wind?

Thx.

ps - why you throwing out that fan with the trash, summers coming? :p

It was a tough choice. I like the chin spoiler alot. Sort of naked - but adds geometry that seems to fit just right with the profile. I really could not decide and finally pulled the trigger on the full lower thing. Bought them from Oneidasuzki.com. They shipped on time - I had the lowers within a few days.

Note that the paint match is not perfect. It actually looks more different in picture than in reality though. I have seen the same thing on all copper factory fairings pictures. The chin spoiler actually does better to hide this since it is not up against the upper fairing or gas tank. However, the real difference in the paint match is small and depends alot on lighting angle (probably due more to the angle at which the paint is sprayed relative to the metal flake content in the paint). Not enough real world difference in my opinion to care.

I was surprised though at the amount of work needed to mount these things. It actually took a few hours to do without being careless. I did take the time to torque things right.

Next are frame sliders and fork upgrades (emulators, springs and oil for the 200 lb fat bastard I have become pushing a pencil and mouse all day for a living). Thanks to racinteach for help in deciding to take on the fork thing. Enough reading has me confident that I can do it safe and right. Of course, I fear that lower fairings are only a signal to gods that I am next in line for a lovely low side f*** up.

now that i've dropped so much money on fork upgrades and rear shock, the next item for me is the spoiler. I like the looks of it on the naked sv

Chewy turns out some good quality stuff. Some of the other blokes in socal and myself have some of his stuff and we are all pleased with it.

THose pics are not my bike. the pipe i am ordering is the Leo Vince FULL system. it runs about 750-800, then it needs the power commander ecu - thats abou 250, so for about a grand im on my way...

the LV product numebr is 7200 for the slip on - but in speaking to a mechanic, he said the gains come from the full system. im going for sounds, but its a waste without gains. so im going full system.

heres the pic of thier high mount carbon, like im getting.

Why thank you biggalvan1. I used to have a red one, and funny thing, it did seem quicker.

I'd race for pinks, but I'd lose.
