Where do I get one? Do I need swing arm sliders to use one? How much do they go for?

1. A motorcycle shop (where did you think, a Hallmark store?)

2. Depends

Some stands lift from under the swingarm, but if your bike has provisions for spools, then I would get a spooled stand. You can use just spools, or spools with sliders, depending on preference. I like stands made by PitBull, and they can be found for sale either online ($120 or so), at your local bike shop (about the same), or the classifieds on the message boards for a little cheaper.

I got the Suzuki one for pretty damn cheap ~$100

It uses spools.

You have a 1k, not a 650. The standard suzuki stand will be hard to raise the bike with because there is no long handle to add leverage. It may work ok on the 650 or if you are large and strong, but otherwise you should take you bike to the dealer and try it out to be sure it is ok before you buy it. There are many different lifts available, just make sure it will work on your bike with you doing the lifting before spending your money.

We use the Suzuki stand to raise my friend's 1000RR easily. In fact, I can do it myself (the RR) and I'm pretty lightweight. The Suzuki stand is completely adjustable just like any Pit Pull stand.

get spools and use a spool stand..they tend to be more stable...for those short stands with no leverage..I just added a longer handle to it...for those who want one I can add one for you too..;)
