View Full Version : The darkside?
If sportbikes were the Force....the SV may be the light and the I4 the Dark. Then Yoda was right...the darkside is quicker, easier, and more seductive. Well, "easier" may not apply so much, but quick and seductive? Yeeeesssss!!
My friend let me try out his 06' R1 on Superbowl Sunday. Oh what a ride! I can't stop thinking about how that bike felt. The SV feels crippled and rough now. I was surprised at how easy it was to ride, it had much smoother throttle response than either SV (carbed or EFI). I think I'm hooked. I did take one turn a little hot, so I can see how these bikes get away from guys quite easily. I'm convinced I need to step to an I4 now, a GSXR of course, even though it took a Yamaha to make up my mind!

Had the same experience when I rode a friend's GSX-R1000. Then I realized the last thing in the world I need is to be on Angeles Crest looking for thrills on a GSX-R1000 ...

Shouldn't that be the high side and the low side of the Force?
(Duct tape is like the Force, it has a light side and a dark side and it binds the galaxy together...)

“Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.”
...even Yoda likes SV's :D

At the sticker price for the R1, it better be nice! It also needs to make me dinner, wash my clothes and .... well, lets stop there.

Exactly how I felt when I rode my friends CBR 900. It was fun feeling that power, but immediately realized how much trouble I can be put in with the flick of the wrist.
I'll stick to my "lowly" SV650.
I experienced the dark side, and I like it!!

Saw the R1 race ready limited edition last weekend around woodside where 9 and 35 intersect. Now, that is nice, I was staring at that bike a long time.
Saw some R6's, A very nice red duc 745, some older CBR's, and of course the H-D guys. Missing were any gixxers and I had the lone SV.
Felt good when some of the guys came by to take a look and spread a few compliments :)
I like my SV though. Other bikes had more bling, but the SV is sweet.
I did get owned going back down the hill though :( But that was clearly skill passing by the unskilled (me), but hey at least I moved over and let him through.
Hey, at least it wasn't Kurt, who probably would have flipped the bird while flying by :) LOL

Well if I4's are the seductive dark side then I'm a slut. :p
And I'm with Smokescreen on the Brutale. Good freakin' gracious. I hate Pro Italia for doing those damn demo days - I should've never ridden one!

Hmm. I take it my bike would then be the closest to a redneck that they have in Star Wars. Maybe Hans Solo?
those bikes look sweet. Right now I wish I was able to ridde any sprtbike.

I think the rednecks are the moisture farmers. Solo was a big city shyster.

I thought he was a renegade pilot/smugler ....and that the VFR more closely resembles the Milian Falcon.

Tuono = A-wing

I see the Falcon as some sort of Street fighter

Well the Imps' speeder bikes were definitely Beemers and the thing Darth Maul was riding was definitely a KTM, even if it wasn't orange.
Anakin rides a speeder bike in Ep 2 but I can't recall anything about it. The only thing I ever noticed from that shot is the way his cape barely moves and his hair not at all from the phony soundstage wind.
There's a cruiser speeder in the newer editions of Star Wars, when they enter Mos Eisley.
The current sport bikes don't look Star Warsish at all to me. Too slick and self-consciously stylish.
As for Han... he was a former officer and a starship captain and from a major industrial planet. He's cynical about religion and romance. Definitely citified.

That's what I test rode, the 910. And yes it was very difficult not to walk into the showroom and say, "I'll take that red one." I couldn't believe how fast that sucker revs up compared to my R6. It seemed like just such a small twist on the throttle sent the tach needle flying.

At one of Pro Italia's demo days.

They do those every now and then and will have a bike or two that they'll let you ride if you've got an M1 endorsement on your license and insurance. That day it was the Brutale 910 and Monster S2R 1000 (I think; I didn't even bother with the Ducati).
