OK, let's see if we can get this thread going again...here's what's spinnin in my changer now:

1) Moby - 18: The latest from Moby...the 95 lb. vegan does it again, don't you wish you had some of his money? I don't like this one as much as "Play", not quite as fun, but it's still a solid effort. Especially notable is track 9 "Extreme Ways" which plays during the ending credits for "The Bourne Identity".

2) Timo Maas - Loud: I really like this one...a little bit of trance, techno, house...what is it really? I'll just call it good...

3) Marques Wyatt - For Those Who Like to Get Down: Solid house grooves, another fine recording from the folks at Om Records.

4) PJ Harvey - Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea: Yeah, this is from last year, but it is so good. I have almost all of PJ Harvey's discs...she has got to be the best female alt rock singer-songwriter that I can think of...better than Hole, better than Liz Phair...this had to be one of my favorite albums from last year...

5) Verve / Remixed: Cut loose a bunch of dj's into the Verve jazz library and this is what you get. You got MJ Cole, Thievery Corporation, Rae & Christian, Tricky, Dzhian & Kamien, etc., remixing Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holiday...it's great!

6) Rarewerks II: A compilation of B-sides, remixes, and other off-the-wall stuff put together by the fine folks at Astralwerks. Obviously from the title you can see that this is the second one...you should get the first one too!

If anyone ends up picking any of these for their own collection, I'd like to hear your thoughts...thanks!

i really don't care for this moby release...but my roommate loves it...so go figure
i love the verve remixes! it's funny, i fell in love with this one, it will be a featured cd on one of our hosts shows soon, but our program director hates it! he keeps shaking his head at me like i'm nuts...so evidentally from the jazz-nut point of view, it ain't so great...again, go figure

Hi Sandie...I was hoping to hear from you...yeah, I really didn't care for the new Moby when I first gave it a whirl...but it's been growing on me. That track #9 "Extreme Ways" rocks... Just you wait, pretty soon we'll be hearing all of these latest Moby riffs on commercials and stuff...

You work at KLON, right? But do you listen to KCRW?

funny you should ask, i just bought cds last night :D
1. cirrus - counterfeit
2. miguel migs - naked something-or-other (can't remember the title)
those two are new, so i haven't listened to them en-total as of yet, but i like the first couple-o-tunes...the friendly man that works at tower gave these two a high recommendation (and a discount...it's good to be a girl)
3. verve remix...love it!
4. olive - trickle - this is old old old...but one of my faves
5. jazz on the latin side all stars vol 2 - really good afrocuban/latin jazz/salsa dancing stuff, i saw them last week at the santa monica pier...they are really fun!
6. sad to say, i still have that essential cd you recommended in, the one with dirty vegas on it...i am shameful...but i really really like it!

I love Cirrus. They put on one hell of a show at the Wallace Civic Center in Fitchburg last year. They played with Feelgood(amazing as well) and Micro.

If you get the chance, go see them live. You won't be disappointed. :D

Yup...Miguel Migs...such a distinctive sound, I have so many of the Naked Music compilations (Nude Dimensions, Carte Blanche, etc., etc...check out their website, it's cool! www.nakedmusic.com)...

Buuuttt...now it's starting to all sound the same! I hate it when that happens...

Olive's good, I had some Cirrus, but I couldn't really get into them. But I might not have given them enough of a chance. Have you ever spun a disc and you decide you don't like it that much...but then you listen to it again later and it becomes one of your favorites??

Hey, nothing wrong with that Essential comp...it's a very good one! I think even the Dirty Vegas CD is great...they have a broad range of styles...it's just that the "Mitsubishi Eclipse" song has getting waaay overplayed...I think I heard it at a Ralph's the other day!

I could never get solidly into Olive ... too slow, I found myself being confused as to which song was which. I learned of Olive quite awhile back, while I was on the mailing list for Sunscreem ...

Sunscreem I like quite a bit, tho' they've not put anything out in quite awhile ... there are a lot of good remixes of them ... including a trancish one done by DJ Sasha ...

I dunno, I've been finding myself drawn towards really abrasive sounding stuff lately ... I even find myself somewhat liking the newest Korn album which is well ... normally not my thing (i've been pretty anti that style of music since it came out ... except for a few kewl electronic remixes i heard) ...
