Olympic, westbound at Sawtelle, far right lane. Huge pothole dead center. I hit it tonight..thankfully I didn't go down but the slow, stupid cager ahead of me straddled it with nary a wink of the hazards. Thanks, bitch. Thanks for the warning.
So yeah...I called the popo and city about it...be careful..it's a BIG pothole...about 2.5 feet square and 8 inches deep or so...when I saw it at the last second I gassed it to lighten the wheel over it..helped a little bit but it was big enough where it still rawked my world. Ugh...bike seems ok tho..thankfully.

Damn! I hit that thing in my cage and it was nasty!
Speaking of potholes, there a ton of them in the fast lane of the 60 eastbound leaving LA. Be careful all...

I was going to say, they are like rocks in a stream, too many to name. Though thanks for the heads up. I usually use Pico.
I work right near that pothole...walked by it yesterday at lunch watching cars hit it...it's HUGE!!!! Didn't think about posting a warning though, nice work. That would suck to be surprisised by it on a bike.

The guy who sits next to me at work had his rear wheel taken out by a pothole in Texas, so now his CBR1000 has an orange back wheel on an otherwise black bike.

Dude, this thing was a frickin' meteor crater (a square meteor heh). It's no small beans. It's HUGE...it could take out a motorcycle easy and the cars were getting punked by it too. It was bad enough where I felt compelled to address the problem.
Update: Today the pothole was blocked off by the city..the whole lane at that section is closed. Yep...it's big...or should I say, too big to drive over without a lot of drama and potential tears.
Now I am obsessing about my wheels, frame and forks. Ya think they're ok? I gotta get 'em checked...the bike seems to handle fine tho.

rear wheel? thats nothing...
I was driving my sisters civic once...behind a lowrider out in the valley...
Doing about 60 or so, I was following to close. Suddenly, out from under his car I see a triangular shaped piece of asphalt sticking up, no time to brake and one lane..so no where to turn... I hit it.
Damage:
It took a pie shaped piece out of the bottom of the radiator roughly 4-5 inches tall
hit the tranny bellhousing, punching a fist sized hole in it.
(which pushed the car up a bit) when the car came down, it hit on the "frame rail" ( i know unit body..blah blah..dont know what to call that) which split it initially in two.. then slide down the length of the car, cleared the rear suspension pieces.
hits the gas tank, punches a small, roughly 2 inch diameter hole in the tank, pushing the car up again and lands on the muffler, nearly taking it off.
damage was..obviously..in the thousands. City however, WILL pay you for the damages provided you get a police report. good reason to always carry a camera on you.

Agito ergo sum.
"In Canada, an official of the Bureau of Indian Affairs was on a ferry with Wilfred Pelletier, Indian. The government man went out on deck and as he went out the door, his hat was almost blown away by the wind. He knew that Wilfred was following, was about to warn him then didn't. Wilfred came out and his hat was blown away. He said, "Why didn't you tell me?" The government man said "I was about to but then I remembered that Indians don't tell people. They let them find out for themselves. Wilfed...didn't notice. He wasn't self-reliant. He wasn't aware."

A warning would have been nice, but I don't count on anything from cagers...I don't even count on them to look where they're steering their cages as they blab on their mini-electronic circuses they call 'cell phones' these days.
The lesson I learned is that we single track vehicles take a risk anytime we don't ride in the wheel tracks of cars. I usually do stay in the wheel tracks, but there are times when I cross through the middle. I happened to get caught out this time.
Having a car block your view gives you fewer options and less ability to see...so I should have just passed this incredibly slow and selfish driver.
We riders often try to help each other...but it seems not everyone is quick-minded enough to warn other motorists about a road hazard..or perhaps they just don't give a shit. I think slow drivers aren't just trying to abide the speed limit...a lot of people just don't have a lot of processing power and can't manage to drive at faster speeds...thus, I tend to not linger around slow drivers too often....this time, my patience wasn't a benefit.
I made a big effort to warn others about that pothole, called the city and the police about it, and the next day the lane was blocked off. I don't rely on cagers to warn me, but it would be nice if they did once in a while...that's one of the reasons cars come with hazard lights, you know? But either way, I did my part, so I sleep well at night.

You're welcome, and I am glad the police took swift action to block off the lane...probably saved countless others untold tire/rim damage, or worse. I regretfully watched a few people crash into it as I was calling the city and police.
I actually got on the freeway after hitting it, but then thought I was a schmuck for nearly crashing and not doing anything to prevent this happening to others. I could have just let others use their 'self reliance' and plow into it as it suddenly appeared from beneath straddling cars...but.... I took initiative and did something about it.
I even implored a nearby construction team to put a cone there but they just claimed 'it wasn't their area'. I guess they were teaching me a bit of self-reliance. ;)
I know one thing is for sure, nobody needs to teach me about initiative or lecture me on apathy. :D
Hey let's go riding soon mang (and I'll be sure to warn you about road hazards, ok?). ;)
