I think the theory is that the brake disc is further out on the wheel, so you get more braking power out of less brake...or some shit like that. Kinda like if you have a bigger wheel to turn, you have more of a mechanical advantage against whatever you're turning.

Hmm...I'm sure one of the engineer types could explain it for us a little better.

I'm an engineer and could not have said it better myself...

My question is...it appears that this person spent some serious $$$ on this bike, but why does it still have those big ugly azz turn signals???

I have no desire to get rid of my big azz turn signals, just my big azz :D

Rim brakes suck! They make the bike stand up under braking while you've got it leaned over. See them a lot on Superbikes or Motogp's? NO!

I always thought it was a cool idea, but as I understand it there are 2 main reasons no one realy uses them. You end up moving a bunch of weight farther out on the wheel which has a few downsides and they aren't really needed since you can lock the front tire and keep it from fading fine with a set of standard rotors. Once you can lock the wheel, with all the weight transfered to it, you are pretty much getting the braking you are gunna get. after that it is all fade resistance, which if you REALY have a problem that you can't fix with pads you can always go to carbon rotors and pads.

That bike needs a seat cowl and better mirrors.

Speaking of mirrors, I was wondering if anyone has suggestions for a cleaner set.
One's that don't look "transplanted", but like they belong there.

if anyone's interested in perimeter brakes, here's a store that sells a kit (not sure if they have some for the SV) - around 2K
