View Full Version : Why Don't We Do Group Rides/Events Anymore

It's been brought to my attention the lackluster turnout at group rides and get togethers in the past 6 to 8 months and many of us are wondering why? Last summer's Gathering IV didn't have the turnout we were hoping for, for example.

This site was originally created for people who have SV's in the SoCal area to organize rides together and for a while, there were rides every Saturday and Sunday. Big ones, too. I remember leading a ride through Malibu with almost 20 people behind me. We'd also get together for parties and happy hours and proof of that is in our 2003 and 2004 picture albums - they're full of drunk people.

So I'm just curious, why do you think interest in group events has dropped? Has the novelty of on-line motorcycle forums worn off? Has it been because several O.G. members have gone away and new one already have riding friends? Is it my breath? Post your opinion, please.

The reason many of you haven't met me is about 75% due to the distance. It takes me 3 hr to get to LA and 3 hr back, and 6 hr in the saddle on the highway just isn't fun on an SVS.

The other 25% is that I'd feel like I was intruding on a core group that seems pretty tightly knit. Othe people don't seem to have trouble with this feeling; when I went down to Willow it was Jay that did all the introductions. (He's like one of those squirrels back east, hand tame and he'll walk right up to anyone...)

Also it seems like personalities online and off are often pretty different, which has always been a problem for me when meeting people irl.

everyone does seem to be pretty close, which is a good thing, and i guess us new members still feel kinda weird just showing up to an event. i am thinking about going to the events next week though. :D. oh and can we bring other riders on different bikes?

I know that I used to organize alot of the weekend SD rides, but ever since my crash....I haven't been as interested in riding street...and w/now relatively new babies (They'll be a year old next month!!!!) and coaching youth soccer, my time has been sucked about dry.

You know, I thought we were getting particularly crappy weather recently, but it appears last month we had below average rainfall by TWO INCHES.

Because I work during the night and sleep during the day now and when I try to ride during the day I'm all tired and crap and it sucks.

That and I'm poor.

When I'm able to go riding, doesn't fit the schedule of other members here :(

I think we've successfully invalidated this poll.
