103.1FM...formerly (and i'm talking years ago) GROOVE RADIO...now something like PARTY RADIO (?)...kinda fun, some grooving dance tunes...leans a lot to the pop side, still fun tho

this reminds me...where has buymenow been? mike, you still around?

still probably doesn't compare to the stations up in the bay area.

what are you talking about!?!?!? live 105? are you serious? the only thing good about live 105 is saturday nights...otherwise it's like kroq 6 months ago (meaning they are 6 months behind)...i would say overall the stations in the bay area pale in comparison to the large selection of stations in the la area (just my humble opinion :D )

I think all radio sucks. Kevin and Bean are entertaining, but even the KROQ music blows. IMHO

sf has a station similar to the old groove radio/mars fm. i don't recall the freq. also, the clubs up there were better. so many LA clubs are all about fake tits, wannabe players, attitudes. clubs up north were all about having fun.

Pics from the Glas Kat, last friday night:

Kurt, I'll agree with this, in general. And the alternative radio stations in SF are definitely behind la.

i won't name names cuz i don't think it's cool to demote any particular clubs. kind like throwin up a cock block on a buddy.
I just won't do it. Promoters work too hard to put together events; so i respect that aspect of it. Just venture out and decide for yourself.

I think Rush is on 640, maybe...

I know the 12-3 slot is Sean Hannity, and then 4-7 is Larry Elder. I think they might have O'Reilly on in the morning...

Rush is good too, though :D

Yeah, rush is on 640, but he's on one or two stations, so he might be on 790 also...

very true, I love how she's the only person in the world with good morals.

Oh wait, that's what I hate

Yeah, I'm way more into politics than listening to other peoples' problems...

And I'm not religious, so listening to Dr. Laura can be a little painful sometimes...

i think we need more rap stations, power 106 is not enough. get rid of talk radio and turn the whole AM frequency to all rap all the time.

Ahh i can just see it now. me driving around in my Cadillac Snoop- Deville. Doing some big pimpin around rancho santa margarita.

Blame it on Clear Channel (http://archive.salon.com/ent/feature/2001/04/30/clear_channel/). Yep, the same guys that promote AMA Supercross. This is an old story but it pretty well explains what's happened to radio over the past few years.

Yeah I don't like Clear Channel very much, but I do like the new 103.1! I was listening to that station last night and am glad to hear it's all Eurotrash dance music. I love that stuff. I heard them play Darude this morning, and I'm down with any station that plays that guy.

I like the new station too. I haven't heard a DJ yet though. If I listen to KIIS DJ's for more than 10 seconds, I have the sudden urge to rip my radio out of the car. Is 103.1 going to get 'Clear Channeled'?

I know that Kroq is owned by Infinity Broadcasting (along with Arrow, KEarth, KFWB)

These are the stations that Clear Channel owns: KBIG 104, KOST 103.5, Star 98.7, KIIS 102.7, Hot 92.3, and KFI

from what i know 103.1 is owned by a spanish station, the same station that bought it from the owners of groove way back when...and although they aren't as "big" as clear channel and infinity, there probably will be a time when they do have hosts and commercials...so enjoy it while it lasts

i tell you, if you don't like commercials, you should try public radio...la has the best public radio stations in the country...for example, KCRW has a great mix of shows (in the evening from 7to12 is my favorite)...if you can get KCSN (northridge), they have great stuff too...then of course, my favorite, KJAZZ (hehehehe)

Screw it... When I get a car, I'm going to buy a stereo that has two things...

1) Ability to read MP3 CD's.
2) Satellite Radio.

I hate when I'm in my fiancee's car, and I go through all her stations (102.7, 105.9, 106.7, 98.7, 93.9 and (EEK) 103.5), and every one of them is on commercial at the same time. And because she's got a German car, it's only got a tape deck, not a CD player (do they still listen to tapes over there?)...

I got so fed up with hearing the same songs over and over on the major radio stations, that I started listening to COUNTRY to hear something new... And that, my friends, just ain't right!

No pressure sales, eh Sandie?

You're making me feel like I need to rush out and buy a car, so that I can rush out and buy XM for it!

Kurt'sSV
Tue 1/28/03, 10:42AM
Is XM still in existence? I haven't heard about it in a while. All the stuff you have to get to listen to it is expensive.

Yeah, 103.1 will start having a DJ probably in another week. New radio stations almost always play for like a week w/o commercials or DJ's to get people's attention.

Yeah, I should get a new car, and some XM radios for my car, my three houses, and my garage(s)...

I guess you've got all my money spent...

Of course, I have no money... So it appears we're at an impasse :D

103.1 FM just changed formats again. The Eurotrash didn't even last a year. At least I won't ever have to accidentally listen to "Banana's Playhouse" again. That guy was a bigger fag than Ryan Seacrest.

Now the station is called Indi103 so it's like a wanna-be college station. I think the stations owners best bet is to change it back to an Espanol station again.

yeah, the previous programming as a pseudo house station was pretty much sucking...they shoulda gotten swedish egil of mars and groove fame back

the new programming is ok, basically yesterdays kroq (which i like WAY BETTER than todays kroq) but still a lot to be desired

Wasn't it MEGA 103.1 not too long ago? I think that one didn't last but a year or so as well.

COOL 94.3 was bitchin too, till Art Aster sold it and it turned into a (get this) mexican station...wow, shocker.

103 isn't Eurotrash anymore? I thought it was. I have to admit, I've rather enjoyed the eurotrash from time to time. There always seemed to be something danceable and enjoyable on that station when everything else was SHITE!

On the whole, though, I prefer to just bring my own cds into the car and play dj myself. I generally can't stand radio. It's so horrible. And I totally second the comments about today's KROQ. I can't stand that stuff!!! Genero Mall Core.

The absolute BEST radio in town is on NPR, namely Morning Becomes Eclectic on KCRW 89.9 FM. Also, Sounds Eclectic on the weekends or The Open Road on alot of NPR stations.

There isn't even an argument. Nic Harcourt (MBE)will play anything and everything he pleases, ranging all musical styles, and while all of it is not my cup of tea, it's all listenable.

They were playing Coldplay, White Stripes, Starsailor, Travis, etc...before anyone else knew who they were. They have awesome live in-studio sessions recorded with bands all the time. Just about the best thing I've ever heard was the Radiohead one of this past year...

Stay away from commercial radio for Godssakes. Yeah, get satellite if you must...

Of course, nothing wrong with K-Rock once in a while. Hell, even a little Outkast to get the honeys movin' for Nanducc.

of course kcrw is up there...my personal fav is kjazz 88.1 tho :D

:reviving old thread:

103.1 is a great station now
since they changed from the KDL/electronic pop programming, it has slowly gotten really good! now i hardly listen to anything else! (besides KCRW nights)

long live jonesy!

I can only tolerate talk radio or NPR...for music? Forget it...I'll listen to CD's of my own choosing. :D

Right now I am listening to the newest pumping futurepop CD by 'Fr/action' called 'Last Man Standing, second release from a friend of mine available at Amazon.com and other retailers.

Good stuff. I've also explored recently the early work of G. Moroder and discovered T.O.Y., Syrian and have also been listening to Elegant Machinery of late.
