Well This month marked my second group of races since my big fast lowside in the very fast and windy turn 8 last month. I figured my accident last month was due to my being slid all the way back in the seat and not keeping more weight over the front. Therefor, I did my best to stay up on the front of the bike and not let any front end shenanagans take place again. Still even with that technique, the front was getting blown around a bit in T8 and I was essentially pussy footing it around the track especially in T8 and T2 where the long fast rights that were subject to interferance by the wind, got my nerves standing on end. my goal was to try to get back into the 30's this month and with that in mind, I failed. My best times have been 37's and I was running a glacial 42-44 last month after wrecking. I DID manage to get it down to 40 this weekend and for that slight improvement, i'm gratefull. I guess I just need more and more laps between myself and the incident.

My first race was F-Twins lightweight. i had a great grid position (5) and had a good start but when faced with going into turn 1 four abreast, i seem to back down and let 'em have it. and so i did. ultimately i got passed by just about everybody and ended up finishing second to last after the race was red flagged by Brienne's unfortunate crash (BTW Brienne, you were hauling ass until you crashed...congrats on the lap times).

my second race was 550 superbike and it was sort of a mediocre race for me too except the one glimmer of light in it is that on the last lap coming over the crest in T6 i looke behind myself and saw that Steven Brefka's gorgeous orange bike was barrelling towards myself, i was able to muster enough balls to position myself well enough to agressively shut the door on him in T7 and when i looked back again coming out of T9 I realized I must have really ruined his drive through there 'cause he was a long ways back. So sorry Steven, but take solice in knowing you provided me with a good bit of racing excitement for the weekend.

Anyway, bit of a lackluster report, I know, but that's the way it goes sometimes and I anticipate having a much better weekend in May.

See you all then

Hopefully next month won't be so windy so you can get your confidence back. Turn 8 is all mental. I never let off going through there during the races and the bike held it's line fine. During practice, the day before, I wouldn't go through that turn much past 2/3 throttle and the bike would seem to push.

It's not the bike. It's the rider.

Its true Seth, I fight the front all the way through T8. The only thing that seems to make it better is more gas:dunno: It feels like it wants to tuck then I make myself twist the right grip and it goes away. I'm also a big POOSEY when it comes to T1 at the start. You just gotta trust your fellow riders a little and stay on the gas and hold your position, you may make a little contact but don't panic and it will work itself out. Glad you got back out there! Just keep plugging away and you'll be at the front in no time.

As long as your bike setup is close! The first time I went through 8 on the SV, I was slower than I am on my EX. The bike would not hold a line and I felt lots of instability.

I checked the suspension and thought maybe I had too much rebound front and rear, and after removing a little rebound damping, the bike suddenly felt planted through turn 8. I'm not WFO through 8 on the SV yet, but maybe that will help even more like Kurt said....

BTW Seth, are you going to freshen up the paint job on your bike to remove the battle scars? I crashed my SV last month and hope to have it looking proper for the next race although maybe everyone would give me more room through turn 1 if the bike looks like a beater.... :D

Hi Seth,

I didn't know that was you. I got a great drive out of 5 and was slightly ahead of you on your left when I saw the waving yellow flag, darn as I came up on you from the left, I couldn't see it.

So having passed you on a waving yellow, I let off the throttle and let you back into your proper position.

Only problem was you hit the apex at 7 when I was dropping back but still beside you. Believe me, you provided me with lots more excitement than I provided you.

You had out run me the entire race with better lap times every lap, then near the end somehow I closed up the gap. Definately a fun race, you challenged me all the way.

well there goes my fantasy of having beaten you with skill rather than via yellow flag. :D oh well. at least i kept it interesting for you during the first 7 laps. we'll have some fun battling each other over the next few months i'm sure. and hopefully shandra and tom get out there with us next month too. see you guys then

Nice shots, but your bike looks like ass! I don't know if I want you to put SoCalSVRiders stickers on that thing until you get it repainted. :p

yeah, it's certainly getting on the ratty side of the asthetic line. :D i talked to Lytle about doing it this month and he didn't have the time but it should definitely be painted by june's race weekend.
