Well, the movie is terrible. If you have any love of the X-men at all you're going to hate it. Luckily I did everyone a favor and saw it last night and my friends and I made fun of it the entire time because it was soooooo bad and two rows down was the director and various other people that worked on the movie. We also ended up having Selma Hayak giving us a dirty look when the lights came on. So I had a great time but you probably won't.

I saw it last night, it's definitely not nearly as good as either of the first two (not that they were exactly stellar either, but they were better than this one), but as a bright shiny object I think it could have sucked worse..

.. oh wait, it did, there were a bunch of 5 dickheads sitting next to us who just wouldn't shut the fuck up during the entire movie, it's like they thought "oh, shit ain't explodin', I'll entertain myself with the sound of my own voice".

That's the last damn time I see a movie at the Bridge.

It's even better when 5 dickheads are drunk (I've seen this happen a few times at the Bridge).

lol we weren't too loud but for example when they're in the woods my friend said something to me like "With all those mutants you would think one of them would have the power to create shelter better than nylon tents".

Well apparently I'm Speaking as Captain Easily Entertained. I liked the flick. I thought the story was pretty good and It was a fairly full 2 hours with few dead spots. Now the Editor/Director on the other hand.... Either there wasn't enough raw footage or they were sleeping durring the cuts, or maybe they just had to rush it out. In any event there were way too many things that shouldn't have made it to the final cut.

you can't be too picky w/ what they did... there's soo many ways they could have approached the movie... although, i would have thought there would have been more of an epic battle for "the last stand"... but i sure do hope you guys stayed after the credits to see the cliff hanger...

soulofadra6o
Sun 5/28/06, 12:00AM
damnit...how come i always find out about the stuff after the credits AFTER i see the movie.

well i thought this movie was good..lots of suprises here and here..but i didnt like the lack of archangel, plus the way they made him fly looked all cheesy like it's outdated special FX

oh..rebecca romain curled naked without the make up will make any movie a decent flick =)

Sun 5/28/06, 12:10AM
angel.

it's not archangel until after apocalypse f*cks with him and gives him adamantium wings that shoot poison feathers.

(right?)

another question:

the chick that runs through walls. What the hell is her nickname/call sign? I don't even remember her being a huge part of the comics/cartoons.

BReaD
Sun 5/28/06, 12:29AM
that asian girl, was psylocke... i'm not sure why she was put into the brotherhood clan...

soulofadra6o
Sun 5/28/06, 8:45AM
i cant think of her name..but i remember her being in the cartoons/comics, i know they called her kitty..i believe she was called shadow cat

i think they couldve one a better casting/make up for psylocke...she looked like a guy dressed as a girl

Sun 5/28/06, 9:13AM
what bothers me is how much better the movie would have been if bryan singer directed this as well. the plot had a lot of potential. however, it felt like most of the mutants in the movie were added as a token to x-men fans, but their added presence didn't really do much to add to the story. overall it was a decent movie but it pales in comparison to the first two... but the third movie in trilogies usually tends to fall flat.

I thought that was arclight? The one doing the clapping shockwave things? I wasn't entirely sure if that was a guy or a girl at all for about half the movie.

.. and yeah, the Angel special effects bugged me too, the first film job I had was animating birds, so I can spot crappy flying animations a mile away - people keep the body still and flap the wings, it's like there's no physical reaction to the flapping at all.

Saw the movie.. it wasn't great, it wasn't bad.. it was just, okay. There were parts bordering on good/great, but X-2 marks the highpoint of the three movies.

i'm not sure who the butch girl was doing the shockwave effects... but when i mentioned about psylocke... she's the other girl who went through the wall (in the scene towards the end inside of the building where kitty and juggernaut were running....)

dude... WTF happened to nightcrawler!?!?!?

Alan Cumming chose not to sign on so they showed a fully animated version at the beginning of the movie and that was it.

MonsterGrrl
Sun 5/28/06, 8:57PM
What fully animated version? I didn't see that part! I'm bummed Nightcrawler wasn't in there either. I don't understand why they killed off so many of the main characters. It's one thing to lose one, but three???? I'm so bummed! At least they could have let Wolverine get some... sorry, I prefer him and Jean to Cyclops and Jean. So damn sexy... sorry, anyway... I thought whatsername was a he-she. but then I noticed under her mesh shirt she was wearing a purple bra... usually indicates female, but you never know. She didn't seem Asian, though.
Overall kinda' bummed with the movie. Didn't have quite the impact I expected it to. Feels like a weak cast now... and what was up with bringing in so many new characters all at once that seemed to do so little? Not a good character building aspect of a movie. It's probably one of those movies I'll pretend never happened... y'know like Episodes I, II, & III of Star Wars. Ha ha!

That's what I was thinking... falls into my Aliens 4: Ressurection category.

Speaking of Star Wars, though (since this would be a good hijack for the thread...) Lucasfilm is releasing a limited edition 6-disc box set of the original Star Wars trilogy without ANY of the "improvements" that George Lucas made to them over the last ten years.

Get it while it's hot (I think its due out in September.)

JV711
Sun 5/28/06, 11:01PM
I saw it and I give it C+ like most sequels.

Kelsey Grammar as the Beast was the high-point of the movie to me. However I nominate this russian kid as the "early beast" movie casting:

<http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=515642196227308929>

I wish "Kitty Pryde/Shadow Cat" was at least played by someone, oh say 21 rather than 12.

What's wrong with the X-Men series is there is no "SUPER Villian - endboss" like you get to see in Spiderman (Doc Ock or Green Goblin) or DareDevil (BullsEye or Kingpin). In X-Men you get... more Magneto.

What makes you think that Magneto minus his powers would be left alone to be just another old man playing chess in the park? He would be tried for literally "crimes against humanity" in a sub-basement of the pentagon and summarily executed.

i was thinking the same thing. and i came up with a solution...

X-men 4: Apocalypse :D

the professor comes back, maybe using his mind tricks to make everyone think he still looks like his old self, so they dont freak out (it would be a good way to keep stuart in the roll.) storm and logan take over leadership of the xmen. rogue stops sucking and kicks miss marvels ass ( i dont care how they work this one out, but my god they need to!) gambit shows up and angel turns into archangel and sucks less as well.

hot-damn im a genius! i should be in hollywood:p

I liked the movie, but my friend who is a big fan of X-men didn't because how it didn't follow the comics at all and ruined other characters in the future.

I have to say that a couple of the characters where stupid like the angel guy and the guy who made himself into a billion people.

DON'T read the following if you did not see the movie!!!

Did anybody stay tell the end of the credits??? If you didn't then you missed out on Professor X coming back in the other guys body, the guy that was on the video that Prof. X was talking about ethics to the kids earlier in the movie.

The animated version was very brief and they didn't really address it. They got rid of cyclops because of Halle Berry's demands and the studio was mad at him because he plays superman's father in the upcoming superman movie which is why they had to get a new director for this movie.

It was the mutants who came up with the sentinel idea?

i dont think the "cure" was permanent...you see how magneto was starting to push the metal after he got 4 needles in him...maybe it wears off and that is how rogue will finally get her awesome flying powers and super human strength (she's pretty much a wimp otherwise)

sucks that real life drama ruins the movie experience for the whole world...cyclops shouldve got his act together, but i dont know why halle berry demanded he get booted...i bet she blew the new director to make it happen

who should play gambit?

and i agree on part 4 being apocalypse! that would kick sooo much ass..they would probably have to make him digital because i dont htink there is a person alive (except michael clark duncan, or whatever his name is) that can play a character of that stature.

I work for FOX also and that is BS. There is already a plan for #4. Any movie that makes 45 mil in 1 day is gonna have a sequel. There may be some cast member changes but I assure you there will be a 4. And a 5 and a 6 and a 7. This series will continue until it doesn't make $. The great thing about this franchise is that there are 3 or 4 main characters but tons of new characters that you can base a story around so there will always be new plots and new faces.

Hey man! The movie isn't terrible. I think it's pretty good. It's a comic book. What are you looking for? The Color Purple? It is what it is. It's a different director than the first 2 so it has a different look but it's OK. Again, it's a comic book 121 million in a weekend. Can't beat that. Plus, I worked on this film so go easy. I actually worked on all 3 so I guess I'm a bit partial but still... It aint that bad. I like it.

Dom
Mon 5/29/06, 10:57PM
lol I'm looking for something that has a sliver or a resemblance to the characters in the comic book :p. The movie "looked" fine so I'm not tryin to diss you but in terms of narrative quality and character development it sucked. Unless you wrote it I'm not insulting you.

Now that you mention it though I think putting Opera in number 4 might be interesting ;)

illustr8dman
Mon 5/29/06, 11:40PM
They all had a sliver of resemblance ....except for the transsexual that clapped his hands for the sonic boom... and If you're saying that these characters aren't close enough to the ones in the book neither were they in the first 2 flicks.

I think the Term is Artistic License.

Dom
Tue 5/30/06, 12:14AM
I found there was some combination of characters in the first couple. For example I thought Wolverine and Rogue were playing their characters and also played the role of Jubilee and Gambit. In this particular case though the notion that Rogue would take the "cure" and how Angel was treated. Angel is always the character that wants to be cured. Just stuff like that is a bit irritating because it's not that it was artistically licensed it's that it was artistically raped they went completely contrary to what the characters originally represented. And when did Wolverine turn into a pussy?

I thought it was a lame ass movie. Don't get me wrong, the movie was good, graphic wise. But how many movie that come out is all eye candy. The first two were so much better than this one. I think that the director should have stayed on for at least the thrid one.

As for the characters, Login is still the best in the whole movie. Alone with Professior X. I HATED (with a passion) that Hallie Berry played storm. She Sucked so bad. Beast was okay, I don't know what up with kitty, and why it's a big thing that she's in this movie. Same goes for colossus.

All in all the movie is only here to entertain and should be looked down on as another comic booked turned to crappy movie.

I'd have to say, overall, I liked X3. Sure, the first two were better, but it was entertaining and that's what I go to movies for. Then again, just last week I saw Da Vinci Code and haven't been so bored in my life...except for maybe waiting at the DMV, it's a tossup.

I think in a huge universe like the X-Men world it's nearly IMPOSSIBLE to get things even close to the comics.

You gotta remember. These movies have to appeal to the masses so most die hard fans are going to find holes in it and may not like the way the screenplay was done. As for Angel, the studio tried to do this movie too quickly. This movie was still shooting principal photography in September and October, re-shoots through December, Posting the whole time. It was too rushed. I wish we wouldn't do that but it was FOX's slot this memorial day. We did the same thing with League of X Gentelmen and you saw how bad that turned out. And don't even start with Daredevil. So, the studio was faced with a delimma because all the fans HATED Cyclops. He was a pussy. Cyclops was supposed to be a bad ass and the captain and he was just a pussy. Plus the dude is a terrible actor. That's why he aint around anymore. They'll put it to sleep for a few years and do a "Batman Begins" thing and keep it going with different actors and stuff. These actors are demanding WAY too much money so they are having to cut some corners to do the movies. i.e. Effects etc. So we'll see but after 121 million, there will definately be another one.

Dude, it's Hermione, and her name is Emma Watson, and it's only illegal to drink at that age here in the States... everywhere else is pretty chill about it, so it's not really that big of a deal.

Why the hell would Halle Berry want Cyclops gone? Since when does she run the show? Is there politics involved that i don't know about? I mean, yes, he was a bad actor, but I'm just curious. Was the movie accurate with Phoenix and what happened with her? I haven't read any of the comics. They can't bring Professor X back without Patrick Stuart... I won't see it if they do!

She's 16 now (thanks imdb), which means she's still not technically allowed to drink in the UK (drinking age is 18, but I believe that with adult supervision, kids can drink younger).

Not of course that that stopped me :)

I ALWAYS forget her name dammit. But right it's her and it's bad beer and I still think it's funny.

Halle Berry didn't want Cyclops gone per se but she wanted more screen time and I believe she had a minute requirement in her most recent contract. Like I said earlier, Cyclops also appears in the new superman movie which is why they had to get a new director in the first place and so they didn't mind killing his character off so much.

The movie was not accurate with the phoenix story but that's sort of ok in my book because I'm tired of that story line anywa (it's the one they always use when they have an x-men story). Now if Magneto created asteroid M that would be bitchin.

Ok, yeah, the Burger King guy is CREEPY!

In my experience, they don't seem to be as anal about enforcing the drinking age in Europe as they are here. I'm sure she had to have some sort of escort as she's not old enough to drive yet over there, and would need a ride to the club where her birthday party was taking place. I'm only assuming a parent would have done that job.

I totally agree, though... it is crap beer... though I've had worse, but only a few worse.

Ok, I'm still confused... why does Cyclops acting in Superman have anything to do with changing the director? I'm obviously missing something.

Ok the guy directing the new superman movie (Bryan Singer) directed the first two X-men movies and the studio wasn't all that happy that he didn't direct the third because he was busy directing Superman for another studio.

OMG... it's freaking hilarious!!!!!!!!!!! it's SOOO corny that it's FUNNY!!! maybe it's b/c i've always wanted to be a super hero when i was a kid (yes, i wanted to fly and have x-ray vision), but after watching this movie makes me appreciate CSUN that much more =)... i think i've watched the movie 3 times already (VERY SAD, i know) but i gotta admit, it's better than X-Men 3: The Last Stand .... HAHAHA... wow, i can't believe i said that...

saw it, liked it. entertaining, but not super stimulating like X1 & X2. none the less, neat effects. Will wait to get it on DVD to see it again tho. someone told us to wait till the very end, the WHOLE theatre got up and left, it was me and my lady and one other couple and then we saw the end clip past the credits, weird.

im looking more forward to the sequel to Harold & Kumar than X4 at this juncture....
