Anyone have any suggestions/opinions on this. I have heard good things about the yosh and m4 pipes. Is one louder? Better? Other options?

Hey Mother, I've got the exact same bike as you and I'm looking for pipes as well. Everyone on this site seems to favor the Leo Vince pipes for the 650s, but I don't know if that goes for our 1000s too. I DO know that they don't make high pipes for our 1Ks. Hole Shot makes some pretty sweet pipes for us, the only thing holding me back is that I'm not sure if you need their specific fender eliminator kit or if the one I currently have will work. I seem to have a hard time finding a lot of aftermarket stuff for the 1Ks. There's just sooooo damn many of the 650s!

I put on the Yosh full race. It single side and drops about 25 pounds off the bike.

holeshot does have a high mount exhaust, check out their website, i considered these pipes, but went with micron slip-ons.
i didn't get the high mount so that i can put on some soft bags for trips without any worries of burning or melting them. the microns sound awesome, straight forward install.

i believe any exhaust for the 05 650's should work for the 06 models as well.

i heard that changing to a single exhaust decreases low-end torque but increases power on the high end. True?

I have not noticed a difference. I would guess that the weight saving coupled with the gains in HP would make up for any loss. I had always been told you get better performance out of a single exhaust.

I also have heard that 2 into 1 ws better. Don't know if it is true, but just losing 25 off the bike has got to make a difference.
Thudds do you have the rs3 or trs? does anyone know the difference between the two?

The full race to my knowledge only comes as RS3. The diff is only the shape of the can. If you want to hear mine just pm and we can try to hook up. I can make a few suggestions on custom parts for you Black Boomer!

This guy has a yosh 3/4 trs system on his 03 sv1k.

It's a single exhaust, and sounds great. Loud, throaty...and...loud.

pete, u'll be able to hear/see it first-hand when we all go riding together.

another site was all about the M4 system, but they only have race (no rear pegs) and high mount (no rear signals).

I have a 2005 SV1K. I decided to get the Yoshi RS3 in SS. I chose them because Yoshi knows Suzuki. I decided to go with bolt on because if I get a fix-it ticket, I can remount the stockers real easy. Easy mod I have EVER done.

In my opinion, the RS3 sound sweet. Throaty. Commanding.

If you are looking for performance, get a full system and a power commander. You will then need some dyno runs to figure out what is best.

If you want a high mount, Holeshot does make a dual high mount but you have to buy their fender eliminator kit to mount them. Personally, the Holeshot is the BEST high mount system I have seen yet.

If you want other options on pipes for your bike, check out www.pipecity.com On that website, you can search by bike. From there, you can do additional research on the system you like.

Good luck.

Don't need power commander, You can retune your chip.

+1 I have the Yosh CF Tri Ovals RS3 Bolt On's. Race Baffle. Loud, Rumbly and look awesome I think. Sets off car alarms in parking structures. Easy install and a good buy I would say. I did however see a guy with an M4 2 into 1 system one day and that was the loudest thing I've ever heard. Definitely an attention getter, unfortunately also a ticket getter...

Also try Crago Racing, they have a dyno in the shop. They do get a little on the busy side some times.

I'm gonna pose a question/concern here for you 1k peeps:

My 1k that I acquired about a month ago (but haven't ridden in two weeks due to fuckin' crashing it) was getting about 28 MPG. I know this is far below the average fuel consumption for this vehicle.

It has a K&N air filter, PCIII, and 2 Bros pipes. Is it possible the PCIII is configured so that fuel consumption is ridiculous? I've not messed with it at all since I've had the bike. I'm thinking spark plug replacement and throttle body syncronization will improve the fuel mileage, but I can't see the bike being so out of tune to cause the horrible efficiency. I'm thinking my first step, as soon as I'm healed and moved (I will have a garage! At least until I get a new job outside this desert), will be to change out the plugs, do the throttle bodies, and remove the PCIII to see what happens. If all is good from there, maybe I could reintroduce the PCIII with different settings.

When mine was new it got worse mileage, the more miles I've put on it it seems to get a little better. I get about 90 miles before the light comes on (don't know the mpg) when I really push it.

Don't know if that helps.

Maybe freeing up the intake/exhaust is lowering your fuel economy

J.Moto

90 miles would equate to horrible mileage. That said, going by the miles done by time the fuel light comes on isn't too accurate. I got a 28.4 MPG figure over 600+ miles of commuting mostly highway cruising speeds, which makes my mileage even worse considering the fact. (I've yet to have a chance to run the bike hard.)

28 mpg is pretty awful for highway, but the 1k doesn't get good mileage as it is. I can get into the low- to mid-forties on canyon rides and the highway, and closer to 30 around the city. And when I switched to thicker oil my MPG went down by around 2 (city driving). Think I'll go back to 10-40, currently have 15-50 in.

my bike gets around 38-40 mpg(city), with a similiar set-up. it has 1400 miles or so on it. seems to run better the more miles i rack up. i use rotella t 15-40. don't won't to rub it in your face or anything, just thought this info could be used for comparison.

i went the the RS3's as well...

when the tech at suzuki started it up for me(also had my 4,000 mile done) it put a smile on my face and gathered a crowd as the motor revved higher and higher...

i love the exhaust, its not too loud, not too quiet but sounds straight up BITCHIN!

as for the gas mileage....i'll fill up to the bottom of the fuel neck and light will com on at around 100 miles....

furthest i've pushed the tank to was 130 miles....which equals out to 31 mpg.....

whats the numbers from the factory on this?

yeah, what happened with mine was, the first time i re chipped it, i didnt know it had a k&n in it and it got shit mileage. remapped it for the high flow, and much better...

That's not rubbing it in. The bike should get around 40 MPG anyway, up to 45 or so cruising freeway, and down to 35 or so when running hard.

As I said, a bad state of tune cannot account for such a deficiency. My only guess is the PCIII settings. But then again, like I said before, I have not done anything with the bike since I've bought it. Soon, though.

My first guess is that the settings are not optimal, especially considering the lack of expertise and the lack of skill of the previous owner (who cares if he's still readin this board...I'm drunk). But I can't say that's for sure yet because I've not performed any tuning maintenance on the bike so far.

One of the problems you have to adress when looking at fuel consumption is the speedo accuracy. When i first got my 1K a few months ago, I was getting about 100-110 miles before the light came on (which is about 3.2 gallons). Since installing the speedohealer, I am only getting about 95-100. The speedo was reading significantly higher than actual speed (88mph at an actual 80 for example). (I'm also 6' tall and 220 lbs = wind resistance and my fat ass to carry around)

After installing the PCIII and TRE (which i did together so i cannot seperate their effects) I didnt notice any great difference in mileage.

Also remember that the figures most often quoted are those from the EPA - which are "for comparison only" - ie they are achieved on dynos so that you can compare bikes - not to tell you what you will get on the road.

Edit: PS - I have the carbon TBR M2 cans because I dont have enough skill to use anymore power than the bike has - and they look and sound so damn cool! Everyone says my bike sounds like a helicopter when it starts up.

There is no way you can install another "chip" in the the SV's ECU. It's sealed in potting compound. I would like clarification on this.

As far as mufflers, I just gutted out the stockers. Doesn't sound like a set of aftermarkets, but I saved $500.00. I don't think it's economically feasible.

Regarging fuel mileage, I got 50 MPG on the freeway this weekend tops. Low end around 42. :D

holly hell, 50mpg. I would kill for that!

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but i was wondering if there were any other 2-1 exhausts for the sv1000 besides the ones that have been mentioned in this thread?
