Whats the concensus on hookin heels on the passenger footrests.... This is in regards to the sv650 (naked), in an open road, cruising position.
Madness or deftness?
Bike handles very differently, as cg is further from the road; further from the front tire. Also, seems like the turn can be initiated by twisting the ankle and/or applying pressure on peg/frame. But initiating or influencing a turn from the rear of the bike seems like it could get sketchy.
Madness of deftness?
Regardless, it sure is comfortable in the tuck.
:squid:
I've seen that a couple times (guys on other kinds of bikes). I don't know if I could do it because it would put one hell of a strain on your neck, aren't you basically looking straight up?

I've kicked around once or twice but I only ever seem to find the pipe. Instead I hook my calves over the frame sliders as described in the Stretch! thread.
DO IT ALL THE TIME! I ride 81 mi. each way to work. I lay across tank bag, whithout bag not comfortable.

Serious? Pretty lame position and looks stupid as hell... plus just gets you into more trouble when trouble is 100 feet away at 80mph...

Yeah, it looks stupid, and this is a bad idea unless you're trying to make it across the dry lakebeds or salt flats... I see people do this on the street and can't help wonder about evasive maneuvers with your mass so high, and along the wrong axis. We steer our bikes by rotating our torsos (arms one way and legs the other) and you're laying it across the bike... ummmm.
And forget about stopping quickly.
I stand up once in a while to stretch my legs or see over cars/suvs, but would recommend against doing the passenger peg thing.

"can't help wonder about evasive maneuvers"
I tried passenger pegs on a long trip across the Canadian prairies and got comfortable TOO comfortable. You should NOT be laying down relaxing too much on a motorcycle you get complacent. I was clicking along at 140kph (88mph) highway straight as you can imagine, I was relaxed in my little Zen position. A coyote ran out infront of me and I was in no position nor frame of mind for an evasive maneuver. I was like a deer in headlights no time to more my legs down or swurve my bike without launching myself into space. I drove straight for it and luckily I only drove through its tail..
My legs will never leave the side of the tank again.....
You can only control your riding you can't control your enviroment
I'd bet if you hit a hard bump in the road, you'd get rochambeaux'ed like nobody's bidness. ow. :squid:
