Yesterday at Willow Springs us TrackDaz boys were hosting the San Diego Ducati Club :) and after a coupla laps my bike (Matilda) just quit. :sad: I was in the middle of T8 and WTF!!! I was able to run into the pit and shut the ignition off. It restarted then ran from pre grid to T2. I rode it back slowly after another restart. Just as I get to my pit it quits again. I looked through the service manual and I see there is a switch that can be plugged into the harness to read the codes. Haven't pulled it apart to see if I can jumper it and read the codes although I think they clear when you shut off the ignition. :(
Well now it won't even start since the FI fault comes on just as soon as you try to start it. :grin: So maybe I can find the fault now.
Anyway, any ideas about making a test jumper to find the faults?

Yeah - its in the factory service manual as to how to make the switch (the manual is downloadable from this site). Its simple to make, mine works fine. The hard part to come by perhaps, is the connector - you can get by without it.

On my 996 it is located at the frame tank junction. Should be in the 650 electrical schematic. I just pulled them out of the connector and soldered a pigtail to a SPST switch located under the pillion seat. Just flip it on to see the TPS or a trouble code.

It's important to put this FI check switch where it can be flipped without turning off the bike, ie: don't hide it in the trunk because then you'd need the key to get to it, and that requires turning off the bike.

On my '02 Gixxer I built my own switchable TRE and a "service" switch and placed them both under the front of the rear subframe, built into the plastic piece that makes the trunk/tail. I used RadioShack bits including these trick rubber switch covers that make them waterproof, one was black and one was red so I could tell them apart.

So, if I ever had an EFI issue, I could just reach down and flip the switch (which would essentially just connect the two proper wires) and display the code on the dash.

question? where is your tip over sensor? is it secure ? did a shock swap this past weekend and I mounted the switch upside down...the FI light came on and the bike would not start..fliped it over and all was good...did the same thing you are describing..

Good points from all of you. Tonight I'll check the position of my tip-over switch and see if that is it. I also made a switched jumper that can be installed semi-permanently so I can test on the fly. Since I have race bodywork it doesn't need the key to get to the switch. Thanks for your help. I'll post results later.:cool:

OK! My tip-over relay had be knocked loose when I futzed with the battery box during a rear shock change. It was laying in front of the battery and just touching it would fault the system. Re mounted onto it proper tab and problem fixed. I did route a switch to the connector shown in the shop manul and it displays the fault code on the dash. So problem cleared, fixed, no problem.

Thanks for the memory jiggle (heh, heh, he said jiggle) racinteach. It led me straight to that relay.:D

I've just shoved a junk yard motor into my SV. got the FI trouble sequence, but the bike starts and runs fine. how do i decifer what this is all about??
