How easy is it to remove the nose fairing? I want to repaint the nose like some of the other cool looking bikes out there and want to know how much trouble I am getting into.
Check out the PDF article on www.svrider.com, there are some cool pics. of a SV.

Cheers.
it's really easy to do. just ask yourself if your going to be able to remember where everything goes. you can take it apart using the tools in your toolkit.

yo mota psycho brotha.
heres the deal, check the pic.
to take the front center off, both sides must be removed first. be nice to the plastic, as tabs like to break if you get muscular with it (not to scare you). its pretty easy, but there's about 2 trix that help...
1. after removing all bolts on the side fairing (including the small plastic fastener underneath, connecting the side to the center) the fairing will remain in place. it needs to be popped off, just like the tail fairings. grab on the rear-most part of the side fairing and give it a supported tug - it should pop free.
2. then there are a few tabs which fit the side fairing into the center piece. to completely free the side fairing, keep pulling on the same spot as step 1 until the fairing is at about 30 degrees to the longitudinal axes of the bike, then pull a little backwards, and the tabs should spearate. (this part is pretty easy because you can see what yer doin)
also, dont know what color you are planning on doing, but i can make tail number plates in any color to match the back. i also have black tail sections for sale w/ the adhesive number plates (custom made by me, then cut at a sign shop - they fit awesome, i am very meticulous !!) ill post that info next (another pic).
hope this helps,
peace :ass:

Very nice, I have not seen your bike before but this is dead on with what I wanted to do.
Did you paint the front fairing white or did you have someone else do it? Do you have to prep the fariing or do you just paint over the existing paint? Still working on what color I want, I thought black but now I am thinking a dark gray, I have a '02 Silver SVs with lowers. Thanks for the tips.

hey man,
ya, the nose is painted and the tail is vinyl decal.
i had my painter do the nose along with some other parts. i prepped only the area to be painted with 320grit - this is usually the painter's preference - ask'em, cus some prefer 320 - 600grit. i went with only the good stuff here (base / clear) for durability to bugs, stones, etc. FYI - the kind of paint that gets pushed through a spray gun (urethane) is different then what comes out of a can (enamel or lacquer). the urethane paints can't come out of a spray can because they require a catalyst. basically, this means that the urethane will solidfy to a much harder paint - profesional style.
thats my $0.02, or at least what i was able to gather when i went through this process.
