I just installed some intuitive ebony sliders. Took all of 5 minutes. Got 'em for 50bucks at Lee's Cycle.

If you have the SVS, make sure you have the Pro-sliders ( cost = ~ $80 to 100 ). They're longer, so they can protect the fairing.
The non-pro (cheaper one, I bought mine for ~ $50) is sufficient for the nikid, but not the faired.

Oops.,,I got the regulars. You know, the look like they stick out far enough to at least keep it from breaking off, it might still get scratched a bit though.

I have the pro sliders on my SVS and the fairing was still scratched up when my dad laid it down at a relatively low speed. The crash was enought to break the clutch lever and rearset bracket. The front corner of the fairing was gouged and the side was lightly scratched. The slider itself ground down ~1/4". I also had the barend and swingarm sliders, which were also gournd down, but still fully functional. So, in short, your fairing will still be scratched, just not broken.
Aaron
The problem with the regular ones on a SVS is the frame sliders won't touch before the fairing (i know :(). You could do what I did: call Intuitive and say the regular ones didn't do jack, and you want to exchange them for the pro's. They gave me a really big discount on the pro's and i kept the regular ones.

Does anyone know the length differences between the Pro's and regulars?
The one's I bought say SV650/SV650S right on the pack. Hard to believe they'd put the "S" on there if they're not long enough.
I'm kinda stuck as I didn't save the packaging.
Well, it'll do what it's meant to do -- save the frame. I think the difference is about an inch? and different mounting points. Come look at mine if you want (I'm 5 mins away from PB). They aren't fairing sliders. Anyways, you could always sell them to someone with a naked SV if you want to get the pro's.

Hey Paul you beat me to it... I was going to mention that frame sliders are for saving the frame and not the fairing. No matter what you put on there your fairing is going to get messed up if you go down.

Looking at the R&G crash protectors and wanted to know if anyone has them? More importantly if you have them did you have to cut your lower in order to fit them? Also did you get them in So. Cal. or did your order them via the Internet?
Here is the image on SV650.org that originally got me interested: www.sv650.org/pic20/shaunsv650srhs.jpg

I have intuit frame sliders on my SVS. If I could ever recommend a product it would be these frame sliders.
No cutting. And I've crashed tested them with ZERO body damage. NONE! 30 MPH lowside ath the streets of willow.
Here's the story on the crash (http://www.socalrpm.com/SoCal_Web/News/Project_SV/Crash/crash.html)
With the Pro Sliders, you need to make a notch in the lowers.

I know this topic is old but I just got the bike recently. I wanna put on frame sliders but I have the lower fairing and was told that I would have to drill into them. Is that true? No way around it, huh?
buymenow00
Wed 8/28/02, 6:14PM
Yup, no way around it, you will have to drill or cut a piece out of your lowers to make it all fit. I've been procrastinating on this myself...but others who have done it say that it isn't that difficult as long as you take your time and do it carefully. Check out Project SV by SVSmiles to see pics of the process step by step:

I have the Eurobikes lower and when it was designed they didn't leave a place for frame sliders to fit. Does anyone know anybody that might have the tools (and the experience would be cool) to cut away part of the fairing so i could install the sliders??? Also i have a friend that owns a auto body shop and if i could get the paint code for the silver SV he can make a big batch for me and for who ever owns a silver SV. I'm going to need it to cover some of the scratches i have "Aquired" and to cover up the customizing on the fairing when i put in frame sliders.
You can find the paint at www.color-rite.com It's called metallic Sonic silver.

When I dropped my bike a while ago it did no damage to the fairing. I have an SVS and the regular sliders. I was going about 5 when it went down (dont ask) and the was only very very faint scratching that disappered with a little Mcguiars ScratchX and wax.

You can have mine for free. They're black. BUT... the left side (shorter one) is in pretty bad shape (this happened after I got the pro's but didn't install them yet). The right side (longer one) is perfect though.... I'll bring them to the Gathering, or I might go up to LA before then.

Here's another good site that demonstrates cutting a hole in a plastic fairing - this was found on the parts411 website.

I was asking a friend about the sliders yesterday and he told me that one of the cons of having sliders is that the sliders are attatched to the frame, and if wrecked hard enough, they could bend the frame....rendering the bike worthless. What do you guys think???

I really really doubt it. Check out the Intuitive Pros, they are mounted on the long engine mount that goes all the way through the engine. There's no way the frame's getting bent at that spot.
The sliders are designed to PREVENT damage to the frame. They are soft enough that if they get bent over to one side the plastic will stretch or snap. DO NOT EVER GET SLIDERS MADE FROM ALUMINUM. One of the girls on this board(does not post much if ever, can't remember name) she had aluminum sliders and dropped her bike. It did not damage the frame, but where the bolt goes all the way through the motor, it cracked the engine block. The metal sliders did not flex enough to prevent this. That coupled with the fact that the metal does not slide like plastic. It dug into the asphalt give the slider that much more force.
Go with intuitive sliders and you won't be sorry. Many people I ride with have dropped their bikes with these and have nothing but good things to say about them.
Hey, thanks for the info. I'll have to purchase some now.

Someone said they dropped with the intuitive pro sliders and it protected their fairing *in that crash*... no frame slider will protect your fairing in all drops, they're not meant for that.

Dude, sliders are there to help minimize damage in a lowside incident. No slider, regardless of whether it is delrin or carbon fiber, is going to fully protect the fairing on any bike.

I've got the same lowers. I used the dremel tools to cut my
initial hole. I just sanded the hole bigger until it was big enough
for the slider to fit through. It also allowed me to line up the hole
perfectly with the mounting point. On the left side, no way around
it, you have to cut in the middle of the fairing. On the right side
you just nip a little bit off the top edge. Another idea, is to drill
another hole by the oil level indicator, so you can check your oil
level without having to take off the fairing.
I installed the Lockhart Phillip Carbon Inlay frame slider. They only
stick out about half an inch beyond the fairing, so I think they
would minimize damage but not completely. If you want I can
email you pictures.
I keep meaning to buy a pair.
does anyone have the problem of the right side frame slider rubbing against your knee when you're riding??? I'm about to take it off, it's really annoying!

I notice it a bit when I'm riding, Britt, but not enough to bother me. Of course my rear sets are back a bit from where your's are so maybe that keeps my knee from hitting it too much.
Are you bumping it when you're hanging off a bit in a turn? You probably slide your knee and body forward to the right when going into a right hand turn (like you're supposed to), and then you're knee hits it, huh? Try just pointing you're knee out a little more to miss it.

Is this happening with sliders that don't mount on the bolt that goes all the way through the engine block? I thought if you got the pros and mounted to the engine block, they were supposed to be outta your way. . .
R
I just have the regular ones that bolt on the sides (for the naked SV). It just sits right where my right knee is when i'm freeway riding. I like to hug the tank with my knees to keep the pressure off my wrists, and it touches my knee.
I've actually hear the sliders don't really do much anyway, on the naked. The bars, front lights and exhaust are what take the most of the damage when you wreck. Anyone dissagree? I haven't wrecked yet, but I've dropped it and that's what happened.

Well that sucks, Britt. You probably can't move back much on your seat 'cause then you're arms wouldn't reach, huh?
What I have the frame sliders on my naked is to protect the frame. Replacing one of those is mucho expensive.

To install, all you'll want is a torque wrench to get the 40lbs of torque on the bolts when you put them on. Installing takes 5 minutes if you're drunk and retarded (less if you're not)

I (for once) agree with Kurt... While some people don't want to tackle stuff like re-jets and fork respring jobs, a monkey could put on frame sliders... Even if you don't have the tools, you'll probably save money buying a torque wrench and sockets and doing it yourself...
And you won't even have to wait for the dealer mechanic to get around to it, and charge you the minimum 1 hr labor (even though it takes five minutes)...

i was at first confused by the Torque Thrust Adjusting engine mount nut.... but it is independant of the nut and bolt that run through it concentrically. to install the sliders, all u need is a conventional socket to remove the big nut and bolt. lots of torque on and off here.... recommended have a buddy spot your bike while on the pitbull to avoid a tip over.

3 weeks ago I saw a rider go down who had the carbon fiber frame sliders on his gixxer. They came right off on impact and didn't protect the bike at all. You want your frame slider to "give" alittle when it impacts and you want it to slide with minimum friction. The carbon fiber with billet end caps look bitchen, but there is no way I would put them on my bike if I wanted them to save my bike in the event of a laydown.

Tue 3/4/03, 4:21PM
Which is weird because they are essentially still a plastic frame slider. They have a carbon fiber sleeve and billet ends, but the rest is still plastic...
Sliders only work on real slow low sides anyway, they are only as strong as the bolt holding them...
Right side low side? That's what the exhaust is for...
Left side low side? That's what your knee is for...:squid:
I mainly have them on there for tip overs, any track days I have been too when guys went down over like 15mph, the sliders wouldn't have matter much anyway...
Xplodee
Tue 3/4/03, 4:31PM
I bet those carbon frame sliders just suffer from cheap parts. Regardless of how much impact the plastic absorbs, the bolt that holds the slider in place has to be able to resist the shear forces that will want to snap it right in half during a fall. If it can't do this, you've got a weak product.
dillweed
Tue 3/4/03, 5:00PM
The point is to save the frame, not your fairings or exhaust......and I feel very condient in slider's ability to protect the frame in all types of slides, regardless of speed........ but maybe not collisions or if the bike flips many times

I like the look of them and the guy who makes them says he will replace the puck for free in the event of a crash. They mount through the engine like the pro-sliders. They are long enough to protect the extra wide radiator on the '03s.

That's wierd I have the regulars one's and I just recently set my bike down on its side. (I FORGOT TO PUT MY KICK STAND DOWN) :squid: Since I was still on the bike at the time I was able to lay it down gently with out dropping it. But as I looked down on the ground I noticed that the left side slider was sticking out just enough to prevent the fairing from touching the ground. I picked it back up and the only damage that I have is a scratch on my bar end and a little scuff on the mirror. So in my case they worked just like they should have. And they just paid for them self. But if I was moving it could have been different.
So I believe its just a matter of what scenario your in.

some questions... that swingarm slider... can it hold the weight of the bike? I use a 8mm bolt to lift the rear of the bike... could I use your slider instead? If yes, what's the price? Is there any special pricing getting both together (frame and swingarm slider)?

I just installed bikesliders on my 01 650black -they are very well finished, took 5 min to put on.
The reason why Suzuki or anyone else does not put on sliders is because a tip-over in the parking lot with sliders is $14, without is $500 in genuine Suzuki parts -you do the math.
I have found by experience that my ass makes a very effective low cost, but painful, frame slider.

Actually I believe there's no difference between the 99-02 and 03 product anymore.

No difference between the bikes anymore, I know Nate is probably backed up on production he sold out of his first run of prosliders. When you install them make sure you use a torque wrench and locktite, I was lucky a riding buddy of mine owns a VW performance shop they were on and torqued in less than 5 min. If you ever drop your bike the sliders will be worth every penny you paid for them, Goto wonder why the manuf. of motorcycles don't put them on as OEM. I have never seen a bike come with them standard, even the exotics don't put them on? Must want the replacement part business.

Bring it down to SD with a 1.75" hole saw and some putty or playdough - I got it perfect on my R6.
If you want to do it yourself:
1) Take the frame bolt out and thread in the one for the slider.
2) Stick the putty to the inside of the fairing and stick it back on the bike. The bolt head will leave an indentation.
3) Drill through the center of the bolt head indentation with a pilot bit (1/8" should be fine)
4) Pull off the putty
5) Use the hole saw to drill from the outside of the fairing - GO NICE AND SLOW - too fast will melt the plastic and you'll get a nasty hole.
6) clean up the burs with a light sandpaper and you're in business

i cut a hole on my r6 when i put graves frame sliders in. i didn't do the putty method because i'm impatient.
i needed to cut a hole about an inch in diameter. i started by getting an idea of where the center of the bolt is then drilled a small hole where the center would be. then i drilled a larger hole using a larger bit. once i know i'm fairly in the right place - center of the bolt, i used a 3/4 inch drill to get a larger hole. after that the bolt was exposed enough where i could get the frame slider partially bolted. with the slider partially on, i traced the area i needed to cut then took the slider off. i then used a dremel to get it close to my trace. i then sanded the edges until the slider slid into place.
oh, before drilling, i taped the area with masking tape to protect the plastic and to get a cleaner cut.

National city motorcycle here in san diego will do the cutting for you. I had a friend ask and they said they would be able to do it. i don't remember how much though.

Thanx!
There is still a waiting list, and its shrinking slowly.
about a 3 week wait right now. If you would like to be on the waiting list, e-mail me at motosliders@yahoo.com . I would then let you know when I have sliders ready.
The "Race" Sliders fit the 99-03 SV. No difference there. :)
Feel free to ask if you have any questions.

motosliders

Inexpensive ones for the sV are not symmetrical, shorter, and weaker.
$80 ones go through main engine bolt, stronger, longer, and protect VERY well.

what makes one frame slider better than another?
Composition (pretty much all the same material no?)? installation method? brand name?
There are so many out there and I was just wondering if there really was a big difference, if it is all personal preference, or just the slider du jour? :)
thanks
mikki
all i know is i'd trust those urethane ones more than i'd trust those teeny hollow metal ones with the faux carbon fiber stickers on them.
the aprilia tuono, the only stock bike to come with frame sliders, uses the urethane kind.

i read couple of pages of this thread, most of those company sell it for the Sv650 only.
I have a SV1000s, any recommendation for a good frame slider?
someone mention some of those brand might not be long enough. I found one at cyclemall.net, its cheap, but I don't know if it is functional or not.

Mon 1/26/04, 12:45PM
I've found some frame sliders that I like that look like that bolt goes straight through them.... You know, like frame sliders... do ...But none of them say, "for sv650" thay say "for gsxr" or for "CBR"... What is the difference? Does anybody have any experience with this? I really like these particular ones... It's killing me!!
Knightshade
Mon 1/26/04, 12:48PM
frame sliders..that are like frame sliders...
If you purchase sliders for a different model bike, the frame "bolt" may be too long or short depending on the width of that particular bike's frame as compared to the sv's.
smokescreen
Mon 1/26/04, 12:50PM
so, you're saying I could theoretically cut the bolt and it would fit.... but otherwise they may be the same? Well I've found that the biggest difference between the 02 and the 03 is that the 03 needs wider sliders for the wider radiator that it carries to be protected. There are a set by motivation that run a 420mm bolt all the way through the bike. these are only 55$. But I still really like the lockhart phillips carbon fiber inlay sliders. they aren't as strong but they look great! As they are yet unpriced, I will wait and see.
motosliders
Sat 3/6/04, 8:53AM
the only bikes I know of that have the LONG bolts like that are V-Twins. Sound like the wrong pic is shown. Cutting the bolt? Even if you found one close, the threads might not be enough to have any left when you cut it,
Motovation: $55? Dunno how strong their bolt is. Mine is heat treated to a metric 8.8 grade. And Motosliders are made in the USA, unlike Motovation.
Rocko: I don't know of any manufacturer that uses Polyurethane. Aprilia does, but as far as frame slider manufacturers, no one seems to. It's way to expensive. We're talking $25-$40/foot. You'll notice that on the Aprilias, the plastic part is only about 1.5" long.
Someone else asked about materials. They are not all equal. Some use Delrin, some use another material. I used to use delrin, but switched to a superior material for frame sliders.
Delrin is too hard and doesnt absorb Impact well enough. It works fine for small sliders like Bar ends, but on frame sliders, too much leverage. It doesnt deform enough. Once it absorbs some impact, it tends to crack.
The suzuki brand sliders are delrin, and have broken completely off of bikes in crashes. I know of firsthand accounts of that.

Nate,
I've been waiting 2 weeks for sliders from you, only to find today that you're waiting for parts for your tooling machine. I'm not being bitchy, I just want to know that waiting 2 MORE weeks is worth it for a better product.
You suggested Intuitive Pro sliders if I want something this week. Can you give all of us a good reason why we should wait for your product?
What do you do better?

Mr. Fresh!

I'm curious if the bolt is better than Intuitive? Is the plastic better?
where can i buy a pair of these magical sliders. i pm'ed the maker and no response as of yet.
motosliders
Sun 3/7/04, 8:45AM
Plastic is longer by about .2"
Bolt is stronger than Intuitive's.
I put more of the bolt in the slider to help strengthen the entire system.
I use a thicker insert to help keep the slider from bending, but still use a soft enough plastic to allow deformation in it to absorb impact.
I have no record of any PM from you, chrdog.

Just wanted to comment:
The Suzuki sliders (which obviously aren't made BY suzuki as they are USA made) are made of delrin. Had someone come to me recently that had Suzuki sliders, and they broke clean off in a simple lowside.
Delrin is just too hard.
Also: The LP sliders as talked about above, very poor quality. That one broke right off. I've seen them bending back a TON, too.

Just back in from the garage...I just got a set of the Intuitive Pro sliders for my '01 S and they don't fit! It appears the bolt is long enough, but the right slider doesn't seat properly into the hole in the frame. So, the bolt won't reach through to the nut, and even if it did, I wouldn't really trust them because of the right side. I guess I could dremel the right slider so if fits the frame, but previos posters said that they went right on...
Anyone run into this before?

I've seen them being too short before to the point that the wider part of the base was touching and squished a bit. Sounds like they have problems with consistency.

I've been trying to call White Buffalo and Newport Cycles since they've opened (according to their sites). Neither shows sliders for the '03 SV650s and I want to place that order.
I placed the order for Nate's sliders, but want to grab swingarm and barends too.
Anyone have any ideas on how I can get in touch with one of those companies to verify they have the pieces and place the order?

OK - so I finally got in touch with Newport Cycles and ordered the rest of my stuff.
Also, as a pleasant surprise, I got Nate's sliders today (they'll go on this weekend). I have a question about the sliders though - the end of the slider is open. It just looks like there should be a cap or something there. I know the cap wouldn't do anything in a slide, but just for looks I feel like I'm missing two pieces.
Am I crazy?

Hiya all,
I recently bought a set of Vortex frame sliders and bases for my '03 sv1000 only to find, they dont fit my bike. They had them listed for my bike, but turns out they were selling '99-'02 sv650 sliders. I like the look of the vortex sliders and the ease of replacing a puck if need be. Anyone out there that can reccomend another good brand to check out that you have used or known others to use on their bikes? I have been looking around but thought best thing would just be to ask you guys instead of getting jerked around again. Ridegear.com is where i ordered them, took the bases a month and a half to get to me, then i received the first puck a month later and the second one even later. They said they were on backorder and then they forgot to send two. the customer service people were really nice, but i still would hesitate to order from them again.
Anyhow, any info would be great, pics would be a bonus.
Thanks

Gotta find an SV1000 and see how short my bolt is for it.
ALSO! Just wanted to let everyone know that swingarm sliders are coming out August 20th. They will also double as spools.
Intuitive, Motovation, etc use a design which is primarily plastic with an Aluminum insert. In my experience, over time, the plastic gets torn up from repeated stand use in the spool area.
So, I have a design where the spool part is aluminum, and a plastic piece fits over the end of the aluminum piece, and the whole thing is sandwiched together by the bolt.
$29.95+ Shipping. I will have free shipping for a short time on these, and a package deal with frame sliders for a while.
Package deal should be $86.95+ shipping for SV650 frame sliders and swingarm sliders.
Don't have any pics yet, but I should a few days before these are out. When I have pics, I'll post those and details on free shipping, etc.

Ok, one more question.
I've found two sites:
http://www.bikesliders.com/ -
Has frame sliders for $85 w/ $17 shipping 3-6 days
Fram/Puck design and warranties the puck w/ replacement
Also had Barend sliders for $22.50 w/ free shipping
and Swingarm sliders for $27.50 w/ free shipping
OR
http://www.motosliders.com/ -
Has frame sliders for $64.95 w/ $15 shipping 2 day air
Site doesn't offer Barends or swingarm.
Can I get everyones opinion on the two different ones? It would be nice to order all of them at once from one place.

if my dog did that i'd kick him with my riding boots on! can we say...CUJO! lol YES frame sliders are a MUST for all new riders and new bikes... my friend laid his TL down with his sliders and only got a few scratches on the fairing...a few scratches versus demolished right side? you do the math, your bank account will thank you

I had a 70 mph lowslide up in buttonwillow with frame sliders. Bent clipons down 4 inches before it snap off, pegs grounded down 1/4" before snapping off, grounded a hole into my exhaust. Ripped up my leathers.
No damage to tank, frame or engine case. Also my foot/leg was fine. Was dragged under my bike for 50 ft though. Usually those long sliders help you slide out from under your bike. But not that time. Frame slider was worth every penny. Was more worried about saving my foot and leg.

Ok, I have had the motosliders on since about July. Now I ordered the lower fairing for my 04' SV650S and they wont work with the fairing (kinda pissed). I was looking at the factory Suzuki sliders but they don't look very long and don't look very protective.
Does anyone have any experience with the factory sliders with the lower fairing? Opinions?
Thanks

Sti, check the SVrider board. There was some recent talk about the Suzuki sliders and their real world performance.
I haven't really seen their mounting system, but I've seen several accounts of some sort of mounting bracket breaking.
BTW, Motosliders will have frame sliders back in stock around Jan 25th-27th.

I can vouch for motosliders real world quality.
14 crashes later, i buy them by the bulk.

I bought some black LP framesliders and the instructions are very poor. Just some general info, no pictures...:D (I like pictures).
Anyone know which one goes where??? I have them on the engine mounts, but I still don't know if they are in the right place. Anyone have pictures? Big words scare me...

Can anyone provide me with their opinions of Supersliders, or Vortex frame sliders for the first-gen SV? Things like how well the mountings hold up during a crash. Does anyone think that one brand/style puts more torque on the mounting point on the frame during a crash?
Thanks!

Do NOT use the shitty Carbon Wrap Lockhart Philips ones, they snap off the mounting bolt as soon as the frame hits the ground...
I'm using these ones now, they seem pretty substantial;

I've had intuitive and the motosliders. The intuitive products work, definitely saved my frame during a lowside at Fontana. I haven't had to test the motosliders thankfully, but if memory serves correctly, they are a bit longer, definitely thicker and the bolt "appears" to be made of tougher stuff.
2 lowsides on the same side of my Intuitive Pro sliders. Only problem was having to grind some of the plastic out of the hole to remove the bolt.

I have seen pictures of the OEM Suzuki sliders just snapping off in a 25mph lowside.
I have motosliders on mine ... tested twice and passed with flying colors. The second time, I had to replace one because it was ground up pretty bad.
Protected the radiator and the frame ... what more can I ask for.

This guy is just a great stand up guy. Free puck replacement if you crash (which I did). I sent him pics of how it worked, he sent me a free puck. Didn't even charge for shipping.
Btw, it worked very well. Only lost a turn signal, a bar end, and my pipe. I did scratch up the corner of my fairing, but I suppose that's unavoidable.
Thanks a lot folks. I think I'm going to give the Motosliders a try. I like the full length bolt throught the motor. There is an online distributor based in Canada, so I can get replacement pucks that much quicker should I need them.

I don't agree. I have the c-f lockhart ones and they look really good. My bike has tipped over three times and had one low-side. The tank and frame have never even been scratched during any of these spills. The handlebars and turn signals are another thing. But even during my low-side, the LP sliders protected the tank and they did not snap off.

Then I guess you got lucky.
You can ask Malkey for a performance appraisal of my frame sliders during my off, washed out the front end at 40mph, bike hit the deck and the frame slider stripped straight off the mounting bolt resulting in a bunch of damage to the tank that wouldn't have happened had they stayed on.
I think the mounting bolt itself did more to protect the bike than the frame slider did.
.. and I know I'm not the only person whose experienced this.
About their only redeeming quality is that they do look pretty good, but I've gone for the all metal LSL ones now, they don't stick out as far, but I'd lay money on them staying on the bike during a crash.

so between the motosliders and the bikesliders, which one do you guys like for a first gen SVS? I accidentally bought sliders for a naked SV a while ago and they held up great for both my crashes...because my fairing took all the damage. The sonofabitches were too short! So now i'm looking for something that sticks out longer. Can i really go wrong with either one?

I wanted to add these pics to my post earlier in this thread, so here they are now.
Even though this thread suggests Lockhart Phillips Carbon Fiber frame sliders suck, here's how they looked after my low-side... They held up well and saved my SV's bodywork many-a-time.
The only thing that worries me about metal ones is the purpose of the slider is to grind down and absorb energy to keep it from reaching the frame and doing damage. Metal doesn't seem like it would so as well. But motosliders are good and even though they didn't help in my crash very much (it was at a wierd angle and popped the windshield and speedo off) they did stay on the bike and protect the tank which was fine and the frame. The bike still got totalled out but if I had decided to keep it they would have saved me a lot of trouble.

Well the bulk of the LP slider is, well, carbon fiber I guess. Just the end-cap is a screw on piece of aluminum for good looks only. The whole thing is not metal.

Im pretty confident in his abilty to balance a bike, he is an avid dirt/trail rider that goes out almost every weekend, id be out there with him but i dont have any knobby tires for my sv, yet. i ordered the sliders from the website mentioned above last night so i hope they get here by thurs. one reason i decided to go the sv route was no fairings= less damage, my old fzr taught me that lesson, besides seeing the engine exposed looks cool, why would you want to hide it.

FYI.
There's a parking lot on the south side of Wilshire in the Veteran's Hospital area with a giant metal storage bin in it and padded light poles. The MSF class uses it for their training. It has all kinds of painted lines and boxes. Maybe good for your buddy to practice there on your bike first.
I took the MSF class using their TankVision250's and went back with my 00 SV to practice. I couldn't even get close to the tight turns we were doing in the class.

Just got the sliders in last night. They will look good with my black frame. Anyways the directions said they should be torqued down. I dont have access to a torque wrench immediately at my disposal. can that part be overlooked as long as its tight? if anyone has done it without the torque wrench let me know.

Is there actuall an MSF course that runs here? This is right up the street from me, but the MSF website says the nearest course is up in Van Nuys and good luck finding out which sites actually offer the experienced rider course...

I am looking into some frame sliders for my 02 sv650 and am trying to decide between two main options. The first is a set from Motovation that has the thru-engine bolt and is like $85 and the second is a set of Shogun sliders for about $35. Now, i don't believe the shogun sliders have the though bolt, can anyone confirm this?
Also, does anyone have input about which of these is a better option?
Motovation: http://www.motovationusa.com/mvstore/Scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=138
Shogun: http://www.ridegear.com/rg/item/F-12114/Shogun__Frame_Slider_Suzuki_SV650_99_02_.html
Thanks
What your bike does after it hits dirt or pavement has more to do with how the slider will be able to do it's job than what type of bolt was used. Some people won't agree, but that's what I've seen from my experience.
I would go with the cheapest possible.

Well, I'm in the middle of trying to repair a chassis that was damaged by the frame slider. It may have helped in a tipover, but it got the bike totalled for us. So... try not to crash, or all bets are off.

+1 for Nates motosliders. I have personal crash experience with them. Link w/pics. (http://www.socalsvriders.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=14892&perpage=15&highlight=dirtydevil&pagenumber=2) Nates uses the bolt through design. Also work good in tip overs too. Don't have pics of that though.

I doubt it voids the warranty as suzuki offers them as a genuine accessory.
I just bought some frame sliders from Pro-Tek.
Came with:
(1) 10mm x 1.25 x 140mm bolt (left)
(1) 10mm x 1.25 x 100mm bolt (right)
(2) Delrin sliders
(2) aluminum spacers/bushings

Bike is an 07 naked.
Any feedback is appreciated.

i've run both sliders with 2 bolts and nates moto sliders.... when i went down with the two bolt sliders the slider bolt bent and made it a bit of a PITA to get it out.............when i went down with nates sliders the bolt didn't bend so all i needed to get was a new plastic slider.......
my vote goes to nates one bolt sliders as the prefered option
