Okay.. whoever wanted to be pedantic about the title.. it's actually not PotC 2.. it's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest :D
Pirates looks great from what I've seen. Very dark and a bit violent. Definately NOT a kids movie. Haven't seen anything on Superman.

Reviews so far for Superman are mostly positive. Sounds like it is shaping up to be a good summer for movies.

saw this, i went after work but it was sold out until 11pm...so i decided to wait that long to see it...i was tired waiting for it but stood by my guns, and i was mildly disappointed, not as great as i made it out to be in my mind...i kept waiting for that moment when i think to myself "damn this is an awesome movie" but it never climaxed to that point...keira sure is a hottie!
in a nutshell it wasnt worth me being tired and losing sleep over

The movie was OK. There is a lot of action especially after the movie gets going, but too much of the same thing. This leads to a LONG movie that doesn't really end. There will be a part 3. Not as good as the first, but nice graphics.
Also, I made the mistake of meeting friends in Del Mar, that theater is old and small. As a bonus, the speaker system sucks.

Two words: "Jerry" and "Bruckheimer"
I've had no interest to see this as I thought the first was pretty lame. I really don't like Keith Richards, so watching Depp prance around doing his best Richards impersonation amidst a backdrop of swashbuckling effects just isn't something I'd pay $$ for.
Like all Bruckheimer endeavors, this is just a "popcorn" movie so if you like "popcorn" then blow the $$ on this. I'd rather spend that $$ on a DVD of "The World's Fastest Indian" or "The Doctor, The Tornado And The Kentucky Kid" DVD's! That's some action I can get in to!

keira sure is a hottie
Exactly. If there is Keira time and lots of other candy..who cares about the story. For me, this movie is as much about research (studying the ships, the costumes, etc. of the time) rather than a cool story. Keira being pretty much the hottest woman on the planet doesn't hurt either.
I don't know if I'll see this in a theatre tho...I save theatre time for movies I know will be good.
As for the moto movies...I'll be buying 'The Doctor, The Tornado and The Kentucky Kid' on DVD for sure and ordering 'The World's Fastest Indian' on Netflix.

I thought it was pretty entertaining. the ending was rather.....interesting....I'll just leave it at that. To me, it didn't seem like a real long movie though....I suppose that's good!

Ehh it was an ok movie, it's more of like a movie to cash in on the craze. The movie is far to drawn out. Like other say there will be a 3rd movie, do this movie was just a set up. It was all action, it was cool to see and some funny parts, I just feel like they are taking one 3 hour movie and making it into two 2:30 movies. So that leaves for a lack of story and just lots of action to keep it intresting.

very entertaining movie, that's what these movies are meant to portray, adventure.
Yes, it was too far drawn out the last 30 minutes.
I will watch it again to catch some subtle parts missed this time around. that's what happens when watching on a small screen.
Look forward to seeing the next one.

Yeah, this movie was LONG. I also think 30 minutes should have been cut out. It's a summer flick. Not good, but who doesn't like pirates?
What did make me go see this movie over Superman was that I just wanted to see the Transformers teaser on the big screen.

Over produced.. typical hollywood Bruckheimer type stuff.. the first one was GREAT.. this one was drawn out.. and the Davey Jones Locker pirates were just toooo much... i mean hammerhead? come on... albeit it is sort of fantasy... it just seemed lame...

Tried to see it this weekend... sold out... we went to Nacho Libre instead.
I LOVED the first Pirates movie and have probably seen it about 10 times.
Saw the 2nd movie last night. It was WWAAYY too long, and I thought Jack Sparrow's character wasn't nearly as dashing, in control & super-cool as in the first movie. There were only a handful of laughs. And did Barbosa really need to reappear in the 2nd movie after he was clearly killed by Sparrow in the first one? It seemed like the writers or directors couldn't bear to let go of any of the characters from the first movie so they wrote them all into the 2nd movie (including the jailhouse dog and the monkey), plus added all of the Davey Jones pirates & other new faces into the mix. Very disappointing.

You haven't been able to make that decision on your own after 2 1/2 pages of posts? Does your mommy still decide what you wear in the mornings? :p
Why don't you start a thread with a poll titled: Should Justice go see Pirates in the Theater?

Maybe I wasn't paying attention, but did they explain why Jack Sparrow owed this debt to Davey Jones? Did he make a deal with Davey to trade his soul to be a Captain for 13 years or something? Obviously he made the deal before the first movie, as far as time line goes, as he was already a captain in the first one. So what would have happened if Davey Jones would have come to collect his soul when he was cursed and undead?
It was a bit long, the jones pirates were a little overboard, but most of all I just didn't understand where the plot came from.
I give it 2 fingers up :finger: :finger:

Long and just 'okay' does not necessarily mean that it's not worth at least watching.

Yup. For example, I thought Sparrow would have somehow prevented much his crew from being eaten by cannibals, or would have noticed that the Commodore stole the heart. He definately was not as on the ball as he was in the first Pirates.

I think the way it went was that before the 1st movie he made a deal to become a Captain, but after about 2 years Berbosa gave him the boot. He was still a Captain but he wasnt cursed and undead because Barbosa went after the Aztec gold some time after Jack walked the plank.
Still unclear to me why he HAD to make a deal to become a Captain and that whole deal with whats his names dad even being there.
This is just like the Matrix first one was good but after that all the intresting stuff was gone and nothing left but pointless action, that and a whole boat load of philosphy.

i think sparrow wanted to be the captain of the black pearl, which is supposed to be the fastest ship on the ocean (the black pearl actually outran davy jones' ship, the flying dutchman). davy jones raised the black pearl from the ocean and gave it to sparrow on the condition that after 13 years of being captain he will serve under jones. barbosa overthrows sparrow in a mutiny, and so on and so forth...
personally, i liked the movie. keira knightley is just a stunner. very easy on the eyes, indeed! i think i liked the first one more but the scene with sparrow face to face with the kracken (sp?) in the end was very cool.

I still don't follow it. Did Davey Jones want Jack Sparrow like he is special somehow? Why would Jones raise the ship for him, while others basically get told, serve or die? Plus, he raised a ship that was faster. Just seems there are untold parts.
Of course he probably ran down to the local lagoon and talk to the old fish guy Jones about raising a ship.

Here here, Keira does make for some good eye candy the whole movie. I love it when she is throwing stuff on the beach because the guys are fighting. The next one is worth seeing because of her :dream:

Justice, just suck it up and go see the movie, it's all about personal taste anyway. I went to see Superman because everyone went on about how great it was and I was almost falling asleep, I was so bored by it.

My take on it was that Davy Jones was sort of like the Devil and Jack effectively sold his soul in order to have the Black Pearl raised from the ocean floor (presumably it had sunk at some point) and to captain it for 13 years. The others who were told to join him or die were effectively captured sailers. Jack (again, I'm presuming) approached DJ and was, thus, treated differently.
That's my $0.02 anyway

I have to echo the people who thought this movie was a disappointing sequel. The first one was SO good, and this one was just long-winded and kind of aimless. I, too, was annoyed that the writers tried to bring every single person back from the first one. I also thought that Jack wasn't nearly as likeable in this one as the first one. He was kind of a caricature of himself. If you like cool action sequences loosely threaded together, then this is okay... but I liked Superman a LOT more.
[i]Still unclear to me .... that whole deal with whats his names dad even being there. [/B]
In the first movie, Barbosa tied a cannon to Bootstrap's bootstraps and threw Bootstraps into the ocean (because the mutiny against Sparrow did not sit well w/Bootstraps). Anyway, so Bootstraps was at the bottom of the ocean (in Davey Jones' locker). Davey Jones found him there before the undead curse was lifted, and Bootstraps sold his soul & joined the crew of the Flying Dutchman. At least that's what I remember, anyway.

yup, since bootstrap was still under the curse he was going to spend the rest of eternity (or at least till the curse was lifted) tied to weights at the bottom of the ocean...so he agreed to have davey jones free him if he joined his crew

Enjoyed the first one. Keira Knightley (what a doll) falling out of her bodice and Depp's wacky characterization of Captain Jack Sparrow make the second one watchable. Even though, glad I had discount coupons, would've hated to pay full price.

Not to mention I didn't realize that you had to KNOW the first movie pretty well to understand what's going on. Last time I saw the 1st was like 3 years ago or something.... LONG and boring IMO
